I understand I can hop to other DVC pools as a perk of being a DVC member.
I know you cannot hop to SB at Beach Club and AKV and BLT. But I have read about people hopping to regular Disney resort pools like the Poly and GF. I have also read about people that have stayed at the Poly and get very angry about people swimming there that are not staying there. I believe we (as DVC members) are only supposed to hop to other DVC resorts not hotels? am I wrong? Can someone clarify please :confused3 I would hate to show up at a pool only to find out I shouldnt be there in the first place :)

No, you are incorrect. Except for the exceptions you listed, DVC members can hop to any pool (given the blackout dates and discretion of the resort staff as to crowds), not just DVC pools. You can find the detailed information in the Disney Files magazine and on the member website - but I admit I have a really hard time finding it on the website every time I look.

I agree that it is hard to find on the MS website. I believe it's under member perks, recreation, water activities. But I've kept a copy on my computer. As vicki_c stated you can pool hop to nonDVC resorts. There's other threads about pool hopping that I've seen in the past month so you might want to search for them. BTW one member mentioned that he asked at the front desk at the Poly if pool hopping was available and they told him they didn't permit pool hopping ever. However he showed them the Members Perks pamphlet that clear states the pool hopping policy and they told him to go ahead. Most members said they just went directly to the pool(s).

Pool Hopping Information
Whenever you are staying on your Membership at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, Disney's Beach Club Villas, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney's Vero Beach Resort, or The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, you and any Guests staying with you, are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World® Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a Host or Hostess at the Front Desk of the resort hotel you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current "Key to the World" card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other resort hotel pools.

Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, and the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas. There are no exceptions to this policy. As a reminder, during times of high occupancy, please be mindful of the limited number of pool chairs available, and refrain from leaving towels or personal items on unoccupied pool chairs.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, Disney Vacation Club Members and any Guests staying with them may not pool hop during the following dates*:

February 14-20, 2010 (Sun – Sat)
March 27 – April 10, 2010 (Sun – Sat)
May 28 – 31, 2010 (Fri – Mon)
June 27 – July 5 (Sun – Mon)
Sept 3 – 6, 2010 (Fri – Mon)
Nov 22 – 28, 2010 (Mon – Sun)
Dec 12, 2010 – Jan 2, 2011 (Sun – Mon)

*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity

Question - can guests staying with a DVC member pool hop without the actual DVC member being present?

you and any Guests staying with you, are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World® Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity.

I have also read about people that have stayed at the Poly and get very angry about people swimming there that are not staying there.

That's most likely an annoyance at people who are staying at the cheaper hotels sneaking in. You'd be staying at a Deluxe resort (the DVC resort), and you wouldn't be sneaking in. Any annoyance on a Poly guest's part would just be because they don't know that it's allowed. If it's swimming weather during the hopping-allowed portion of our upcoming stay, you bet we're going to go to the Poly, and if somehow someone realizes we're not staying there, that's a moment to educate or just ignore them. :)

I believe that the DVC member would have to be with you. Many lifeguards don't even know about the pool hopping perk so some suggest that the DVC member bring their DVC card and the Portable Perks book with them, just in case there is a question.
