Question about Plaza Inn

We are going to DL in April and we were thinking of stopping by the Plaza Inn for dinner. I am a REALLY picky eater so I always need to do my research before going somewhere. I would get the chicken meal if we go to the Plaza Inn. What I am wondering is are the mashed potatoes just plain mashed or is there anything in them? IE garlic, onions, etc?

I have looked up some pictures online and some they look plan and others it looks like there is something in them?

Last time I went they were plain.. there's gravy you can get over the top of them and I have no idea what that has in it as far as garlic or onions etc but the potatoes themselves are just that.. potatoes :)

Yum!

I think what you see online in some of the pictures are pieces of the potato skin. I remember them being more "rustic" (as in little skin bits and some teeny lumps) as opposed to just standard smooth instant potatoes, but I was too busy shoveling them into my mouth to pay that much attention.

The green beans that come with the chicken dinner have a fair amount of black pepper, as well as diced red bell pepper and I think diced onions. I think they're delicious, but my DD won't eat them because she finds them to be too spicy.

We might have to try the chicken dinner out this time when we're there! Anybody know if you have to make reservations? Also do you know about what the dinner cost? Thanks Candy :)

I LOVE their fried chicken. It's so good now it's a must do even on quick weekend trips for us. Here is a photo that may help.

The potatoes do have the skin pieces in them but not so much it takes away from the great mashed potatoes themselves.

The green beans were delicious. Crisp and flavorful - definitely with black pepper and pieces of red pepper ( I think!) but oh sooo good.

Ummmmm....we love the fried chicken! Used to a fan of the roast beef til they changed it a couple years ago. Chicken also comes with a biscuit. This is one of our fave restaurants!

Here at the plaza for lunch. Mashed potatoes have small red pieces of skin. Otherwise normal mashed potatoes. This was one of the best meals ever!!

One of my faves too. I love the beans and the potatoes, you can get them without gravy if you want, we get them that way for the girls because they are weird and don't like gravy. lol

We get them that way too. My boys and I are weird and don't like gravy. DH will eat gravy though. Another thing we do sometimes is get a double portion of potatoes and no green beans on the plate the boys share because they don't like green beans very much. I know they should eat green vegetables, but we're on vacation, so oh well. I'd rather they get something they will eat since they are always hungry. DH and I really enjoy the green beans and the potatoes.

Plaza is one of my favorites too. DH always gets the chicken meal - he is a HUGE fan of fried chicken and he says this is some of the best he gets anywhere - inside the parks or anywhere else.

I always get the Chicken Alfredo Pasta. I would feel like I had missed something on my vacation if I left DL without getting it. :confused3

Ooh thanks for mentioning this!!! I won't eat the green beans/peppers so it is good to know I can substitute and just get more mashed!!!

Thanks so much for the picture Astylla this was really helpful. I can deal with the skins or just take most out. I am hearing some great reviews, so I am getting excited to eat here!!

We have done the double portion of potatoes as well because the girls normally share a fried chicken plate and neither of them like the green beans all that much. lol I don't really care if they have veggies either and they both prefer my version of green beans anyway. lol :thumbsup2

The chicken is easy to separate the meat from the skin, again, picky kids who aren't big fans of skin so we "peel" their chicken. lol Also, we've been able to grab butter packets for the girls for their potatoes instead of the gravy, just in case you want butter. :)

We have asked for the following modifications, and the CM's always say yes: double potatoes instead of green beans, all white meat chicken, extra biscuit. I always share the meal with another adult, and it works out perfectly this way :-)

Yes, we have done the same. I will tell you though that in the last year, if you ask for the extra biscuit there is a very good chance the CM will tell you there is an extra charge. I'm fine with paying and was surprised that they used to not charge us when I ordered an extra biscuit at Plaza or an extra roll at French Market. They have been charging for it more consistently now though, at least in our experience, so if you have been getting an extra biscuit as a courtesy, don't be surprised to pay in the future. Maybe charging has always been the common practice and we were just getting pixie dust before, but just thought I would share.

Good to know. We've never been charged, but would have no issue paying the extra charge.

I agree! We always get a fried chicken meal to share and it would feel like we missed something too if we didn't get it. ::yes::
