I just noticed in the new DisneyFiles Mag. p. 16, that owners who would rather not borrow from their next year's points can borrow up to 24 pts directly from DVC at $15 per/pt. They say it is recently introduced, but I can't understand why someone would want to do that rather than borrow from their next year.

They also don't say if it is available if you have no points in the next use year to borrow. Then I can understand doing it.

Can someone clarify? I can't find anything on the member's site about it.

You can only do it if you have no points in your current UY. Also, only at or inside the 7 month window.

Many times people will do it if the already have there points set aside for something that requires the 11 month window.

If someone had a plan to go to AKL and was insistent on Concierge and need all there points at the 11 month window to get that reservation. And had another reservation that they wanted to just add a day to, then the 15 points would be handy.

Some people, just simply don't like to borrow either. Kinda like feeling like they are overdrawn on there checking account I guess.

Wish I felt that way. Not only are my 2011 points gone but my 2012 already had some borrowed against it! AAAAAH!!

We are still in our 2010 UY, and those are gone as well as our 2011 UY points. We also bought 10 of the one time points.

Disney reallocated the point charts twice just recently which caused many members to come up short for their yearly vacations.

Then they saved the day by offering to transfer points to you for a fee, something that members are not suppose to do.

:lmao::lmao: How true!

Also, I'm not sure what the rules are for the one-time use points. If you have to cancel your trip, do they credit back the one-time use points? I'm assuming they do, so that would make the one-time use points less risky than borrowing, since borrowed points cannot be returned to their previous use year.

:) No you completely loose the points if you cancel. You cannot bank them, either. DH and I called at our 11 month date and used most of our points for a trip in October. I called back a few days later and made a reservation for a stay six months away. We completely used our remaining points for that, then purchased 9 points for an extra night. It is a separate transaction so MS puts you on the phone with someone who can make the sale. They explain all the rules when you request them.

 Then the flights were cheaper the day before our trip so of course I had to prchase them....then I found myself renting a reservation from a good friend for the night of arrival. See I added 2 nights with out any problems at all.....:cloud9:

Is this the "one-time" purchase or is this the "borrowing" from the next use year? Once you purchase the points and use them, they disappear, right. They are not added to your total each year if you use the "one-time in this lifetime" purchase?

There is no "one-time in this lifetime" purchase of points. The extra points that you can purchase (24 pts) can be done every use year, if you so desire.

It sounds as if this is a more expensive version of a points transfer from a member. Does this sound right? What's the difference, other than the obvious ones; ie, 7 month window, 24 points limit? Please enlighten me.

I believe you have to use them by the end of your use year. You cannot get your money back.

It's a simple transaction - you just call and do it. No finding someone to transfer, do a 3 way call, etc.

When transfers were limited to one per year, it greatly reduced getting the few points that you might need to finish off a reservation from another member.

I was 10 points short for our trip. Rather then pay $9 - $12 from a member for them to make a reservation and then try to get MS to link the room to my existing reservation, I just paid $15 per point for 10 points ($150 total) and had it directly added to my reservation so there is no need to worry about another member holding my reservation.

It was about $40 more then to find my reservation from a member, but I am in total control of my reservation, so $40 for control and peace of mind! Well worth it!

One reason that I would consider doing is is to save my points for a reservation at my home resort.

Say I want to change at 7 months to BWV, a resort I don't own, and it uses 20 more points. Instead of borrowing my BLT points to use at BWV, I might pay for those 20 points so that I save my BLT points to use for a BLT reservation at 11 months.
