If I bought in to DVC but my purchase hasn't closed yet, my understanding is that I can make reservations at a DVC resort immediately as long as the stay isn't for before the closing date. However, does the same hold true for making reservations at the Disneyland Hotel? I think I'd have to wait until after closing for that, but I wanted to make sure.

Thanks.

Was your purchase through DVC or resale? If through DVC, as long as you are booking through MS, even though it is for DLH, I believe you should be okay. It's the Disney Collection, right?

If you buy through DVC you CAN make reservations with DVC BEFORE the closing date. I have a reservation for August and one for April, and I have not closed yet. (The August trip is before my closing date which is scheduled for mid-September.)

I was advised that they can not do a reservation for non-DVC resorts until the deed is recorded. However, for DVC resorts, they can do a reservation as soon as you are in the system.

You could always try though, maybe you'll get a different response.

Let us know. :goodvibes

I bought through DVC. It hasn't closed yet, but I know that my downpayment check has been cashed and that my credit application has been approved (yay!). I won't be staying at any DVC resorts for a while, but I'm looking to make a reservation at the Disneyland Hotel (Disney Collection) as soon as possible. My purchase is not scheduled to close for another month.

It seems like I'm getting conflicting reponses on whether I'm allowed to do this. I'll try to make the reservation tomorrow morning, and I'll let everyone know what happens.

Here's something to consider. Look at the number of points you'll need to spend to stay at DLH. Then look at how much a $$ reservation would cost. You might could rent those points to another DVC member to be transfered to their account and have more than enough to cover the $$$ reservation.

I thought about that. However, the thought of renting out points kind of scares me. I think I'll wait until I'm a bit more experienced with DVC before I try that. In addition, although I could probably save some money by renting and paying cash, I'm only planning on being there for two nights, so the savings wouldn't be that huge. It would be a different story if I was planning on staying there for a week.

OK, I've got an answer - sort of.

As a reminder, the question was whether I could make a reservation at a hotel from the Disney Collection after I've become a member but before the contract has officially closed. The answer is: maybe.

One thing I know for sure is that contract definitely doesn't have to be officially closed yet. It is possible to make a reservation before that. However, there are other matters of concern besides just closed or not closed. When I tried to make a reservation today, I was told that I couldn't because the 15-day rescision period is still in effect. I don't have my contract handy, so I'm not exactly sure what that means. Nevertheless, the woman at Member Services told me that I could make my Grand Californian reservation on Monday because my rescision period would be up by then. That's still at least three weeks before my contract will close.

I hope that helps.

Ah, ok.. I think the 15-day thing is a law in FL regulating timeshares and allowing buyers that 15-day time frame to cancel the contract. So they want to make sure that you can't cancel the contract before they convert those points.

thanks for the info!
