Question about GF and GF/RPC

Recently I have been reading many negative posts about the GF as well as the RPC. And since I was debating on making reservations for the RPC for half of my next stay (which, by the way, has yet to be determined), I was wondering if I should even bother, because people don't seem to be too happy there. Or should I just forget the GF and stick with the YC, a place that is tried and true?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We stayed in RPC over July 4th. We had a great discount, and I enjoyed it. We had a lovely room with a view over the marina to the castle. Our room was kept spotless by probably the best WDW maid we have ever had.

The concierges were able to make reservations for us the one time we asked. The lounge had plenty of choices out. The slimmest pickings being during the afternoon. They still had more out than the other concierge lounges we have tried in WDW. We really enjoyed having wine and snacks while listening to the orchestra and piano music. The other concierge lounges don't have that!

The hotel was wonderful! The only downside to the whole trip was arriving at 10:00pm. We had to check in downstairs instead of in the concierge lounge. It really wasn't a problem at all.

If you really want to stay there, do it! The reports were bad before we went, too. I have always wanted to stay there, and I am glad that I did. That said, the trip reports (Misti's, Janet2k, etc.) were accurate. We did have service problems, the offerings in the lounge were meager, housekeeping ranged from excellent to poor, etc. We were there for about 2 weeks, and we saw/experienced alot. That said, the GF is a beautiful resort, with many positive things. The music in the lobby each evening is wonderful, and we particularly enjoyed Christian Frederick, the pianist.

If you have always wanted to stay there, then follow your heart - just do it with your eyes open.

Have a great trip! :)

sixcats: It is wonderful and encouraging to hear that you had a nice trip. And the view from your room sounds great.

MJS: Your right, I should stay there if I want to. But I am just a little worried that it will not be what I expected. I am mostly worried about the CMs not being as pleasant or helpful as in other places.

I have been in the GF many times, I think it is beautiful and would love to stay there. But during the trip I don't want to be kicking myself because the stay was not up to Disney standards.

Thank you all for your responses. I really appreciated them.

The way the staff is trained is to be very professional, as their research has found that the majority of the clientel prefers that. Some of the staff will try to profile the guest when first met, and can change their attitude to the guest to accommodate the guest's personality. I've heard from people where this has happened, and a CM who takes the extra effort to do this should be commended. :)
