Question about Free Dining

We usually rent points from a DVC member and I am just curious, can DVC members ever get free dining, not that I expect to get it passed on down to me, but I was just curious. We don't eat nearly enough food to use the DP, so we never participate, and my girls are just the wrong age to get value from it, but I was just curious.

No, DVC members (or renters) cannot use the free dining promos. I've priced it out, and it's actually more economical to rent DVC point and BUY the dining plan than it is to purchase the package through Disney and receive the free dining promo. Of course it depends on the time of year and season, but I priced it out for this coming fall for POR, and it was still cheaper to rent at BWV and buy the dining plan. I had to re-check my calculations a few times because I was expecting that!

Sometimes, you will find a member who really wants to rent their points, and they will offer to purchase a dining plan for their renters as a "deal sweetener." That's really the only way to get free dining with a DVC reservation.
