question about exchange with II

Howdy everyone,

I am thinking about doing an exchange thru II. Here is my question.

My use year is June and I do not have any points left for 2005 or 2006. If I wanted to book and exchange for November 2006 will I be able to borrow from 2007 points now or do you need points in your current use year do do an exchange with II?

You can borrow from '07 when you are in your '06 use year for the ressie, so if I understand your question correctly, I think the answer is yes.

From what I understand, the points would have to be available for use at the time you accept your exchange. I must admit we've discussed this issue a couple of times and I don't think there has ever been a definitive answer from MS. I do know one person that was given a couple of months before DVC took the points. Maybe you could ask and report back.

For example, If I wanted to book at my home resort at 11 months for November 2006, I can book in December of 2005 and borrow the points from 2007, since my trip is in the 2006 use year.

Does it work differently for exchanges with II?

I guess I will have to make a call tp MS tomorrow and find out.

Booking at DVC has nothing directly to do with an II exchange. All you have to worry about is whether you have the points. As I've said before, I don't know the cutoff of when you have to have the points by in relation to when the exchange is made, but my GUESS, is you have to be able to use them for a reservation but you don't actually make a reservation, only give DVC the points. That is unless you wanted to do a deposit first, which I'd strongly recommend against in most situations.
