Let's say my parents and my family buy into DVC together and split the initial cost and dues. Say we get 350 points at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge and plan to go 10 nights a year, all at once, in the summer.

Can we book 2 studios with our points or do we have to get a 2 br. villa?

If our "home" resort is, let's say Vero Beach, can we still use our points at another DVC resort?

We're going to take the DVC tour when we're on vacation this summer. We go so much, that it's starting to make sense to maybe buy into DVC.

Does anyone know the minimum cost at this time? Should we consider a resale? I asked some questions a few weeks ago, but I'm still not 100% sold on DVC - but with the new 'rules' that Disney just implemented for AP holders, I'm thinking that DVC might be the way to go...we'll see. Thanks.

You can book a grand villa 2 studios a 1 and 2 bedroom whatever you like and whatever your points will cover for he time you wish to go. As for cost currently I believe it is 95 dollars per point through Disney. You can get them cheaper from re sale but Disney makes it very easy to finance if you need to.

Yes, you can book two studios. Yes, you can use the VB points at WDW DVC resorts. However, there is a booking window advantage to your home resort. You would be able to book VB 11 months prior to your check-out date, and all other DVC resorts at 7 months. Usually it isn't too much of a problem...but during busy times of the year (Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Spring Break, etc) it can mean the difference of staying at your chosen WDW-DVC resort or having to book or having to go with a second choice. For example, you may not be able to get into WLV or BCV, nor would you be able to get the "standard" view rooms at BWV. OKW usually is the last to fill up because it is a large resort, I would figure on SSR also being available for most seasons at the 7 month window when fully built...it will be the largest DVC resort to date.

Also be aware that VB has relatively high dues compared to other DVC resort because it was never really "completed", a decision was made not to fully build out the resort after lagging sales, the "extra" land was sold. That being said VB is a beautiful resort, and if you intend to spend most of your vacations there you will not be disappointed...it is just a good idea to buy where you want to spent the majority of your vacations to take advantage of the extra booking window.

You didn't ask but - Since you are splitting initial costs and dues, wouldn't it be better for you and your parents to each get your own contract of 175 points? I guess I'm just paranoid having heard so many stories of issues when there is a death, divorce, etc. and things are jointly owned.

--You can book whatever accomendations you want/are available.
It get harder if the points your buy ( ie Vero) are not at the resort you want to use -- as in this example Vero is your home resort and you could book 11 months in advance -- but if you want a non 'home resort' your limited to a 7 month booking window.

Rather than buying one large contract, and having everyone own part of it, you should buy two smaller ones, for a couple of reasons. First, smaller contracts are more common to buy, and they fetch more on resale than the larger contracts. Second, and most important, if one of the members has a financial reversal, by owning one contract together, you are all forced to sell. If there is a divorce among one of the families, your 350 pt contract must be treated as community property, and sold to settle debts and divide as community property. You stand to lose if you go together on a contract--instead, buy smaller contracts, and reduce the # of members to limit the chances of divorce, death, financial losses, etc. ;)

I believe that if you wanted to and the rooms were available, you could get as many studios as you could with all the points you have for one night.... one huge party..... or a wedding......

I second the motion on splitting your contracts if your going for 350 points. There's no real advantage to having one large contract over two smaller ones, the individuals above are right in the benefits of two smaller contracts.

One place you could check for resales is our wonderful site sponsor, the timeshare store. They help bring this site to us, and I've heard plenty of great stories about thier services. Check 'em out......

p.s. I'm not affiliated in any way, just grateful for thier sponsorship of this site....

I'll also agree that combining a purchase like this may not be the best idea.

If you get two separate contracts, you can always combine points between the contracts if you DO decide that you want a 2B or some other combined accommodations.

Having multiple names on the contracts could really give you headaches in the event of death, divorce or even financial problems by one or more parties involved.
