Question about DVC AP purchase

We have AP's now that are getting ready to expire in Dec. We are also working on purchasing at SSR. That should be final at the end of Nov. The price to purchase a new AP through DVC is cheaper then the renewal price of my current AP! Here is my problem. We have a ressie under the BRP for our Jan. trip and if I cancel it that means $420 down the drain. Should I renew now or wait until our DVC contract goes through and buy a new one through MS? And how soon after our contract is finalized can I buy the AP through MS? Am I making any sense?!

If a renewal makes sense for your traveling habits, wait until your contract closes and you have a DVC Mem number, the DVC renewal is slightly, though not a lot (~$15), cheaper than a new DVC AP. Call the AP renewal line, and tell them you are now a DVC member and that you'd like to renew, they should be able to handle it, or call MS.

Also, is your January trip within 30 days of your expiration? There should be a 30 day renewal grace period (at least that has been the policy for several years), and you could renew in person. Have your DVC membership card with you, if you have not received your permanent cards prior to your trip, your temporary card should work OK.

What is BRP?

BRP is the Best Rate Possible program for AP room ressies, it must be booked on the internet 60 days in advance through the AP site, non-refundable deposit required.

how does a new AP purcahse with the DVC discount work? there is the option of purchasing online. the tickets can then either be shipped or picked up at a theme park. but what is the anniversary date of this AP purchase? will the anniversary/expiration date be on the date of the online purchase? or date of first use at a theme park?

Neither, actually. If you have it sent to your house, you will receive an Exchange Certificate. You take that certificate along with your photo ID and blue DVC card to any Guest Relations window. They will then give you your activated AP then and there and it will expire one year from that date you do the trade.

If you do the will call, you go to Guest Relations with your photo ID, blue DVC card and your confirmation number and they will issue you the active AP then. Your year starts from that day whether or not you actually enter a park that day..

thanks for the info! i plan to purchase online and pick up at will call window at theme park. but when is the best time to purchase the AP's online? is there an expiration date as to when you need to claim them at will call? for example, buying now and claiming them at will call window for a Summer 2006 trip will be too long. or is it? don't know if there's a time limit to claim your tickets....

There is one before the front entrance of Epcot (to the right of the entrance).

I purchased mine at the window at the back of Epcot (near France).

There is also one at DD between Team Mickey and the crystal shop.

I am sure that there are GR windows at the entrance of all the parks. Someone will pipe in who knows this for sure.
