Question about dining at HRC when staying at Portofino.

We are staying at the Portofino for one night for the first time. I believe I read somewhere (where I can't say at this point!) that guests of the hotel (or was it the HRH?) are allowed some easy access to entrace. Is that true? How does it work? Also, we are celebrating my 13 year old's birthday. Will they do anything for him? How do I notify them of it?

We showed our room key at the front door and got next available seating. The next year we went, there was a separate entrance for hotel guests. If you don't see a sign for a separate entrance, just show your room key at the front.
