Anybody know what the "gravel" is in the dig site (where the kids unearth the wooly mammoth fossil) at The Boneyard in Animal Kingdom?

I'd like to make a mini version of this at home... Is it commercially available from, say Home Depot or Lowes?

Thanks in advance...

last time we were there it seemed to be small pea gravel . its nice it doesn't get into everything.

Timmer,

We have pea gravel here under our swingset, but the stuff in the boneyard is definitely smaller in size. I don't know what it is, kind of a cross between sand and pea gravel!

I do believe it is walnut shells. I was talking to a cm a few years ago, maybe 2, and she said it was walnut shells.

I don't think it could be walnut shells because of nut allergies. They would have to post huge disclaimer signs all over the place. Too much liability.

It's definitely some type of rock... I never heard of "pea gravel" before:confused:

I thought I read somewhere that it was made from recycled tires? I know it's not just some kind of rock. There was a long explanation somewhere about it being specifically designed to not get the kids dirty.

It is a type of pea gravel. A few years ago we wanted to get the same thing and I sent an e-mail to Disney and they told me exactly what it was (something like #10 pea gravel????) We looked all over for this and found it online in Texas. It was very expensive to have it shipped to MI so we used rubber mulch instead. I hope you can find it.
