Question about APs

I can't seem to do a search right now so I thought I'd post my question for all the experts out there. I know that if I purchase an AP at the disney store that I'll get a voucher that I can activate once I arrive at WDW but what I don't know is if there is a time limit between buying and activating.

Confused? Here's my problem - I would like to buy an AP this February before my DC expires and to help even out expenses over the year but our trip isn't until December. Can I hold onto the AP for 10 months and activate it in December? or do I have to activate the AP within say 90 days of purchase?

There is no expiration date on the voucher! It is good forever!!

So the AP isn't retroactive to when the voucher was issued? We would like to buy at least one of our APs between now and when we leave, but I thought I heard somewhere that the date of the AP would begin on the date of voucher purchase, rather than on the date that it was exchanged for an actual AP.

When you get an AP voucher, the date it is activated will start your one year of use, not the date of purchase.

Note however that it is incumbent upon you to check the dates on your activated pass as there have been more than just a few times that people have had the expiration date backdated to the voucher purchase date.

This is a CM error. The computer will display the original information encoded on the voucher when it is passed through the card reader. The original purchase date comes up as the default date. This date is supposed to be changed to the current day's date before issuing the activated AP but not every CM remembers to do it.
