I know that you can cancel a dining reservation 2 hours prior but can you cancel a reservation at the podium without the no show fee? My group (2 rooms - 1 and 4 in rooms) have a character breakfast but I am afraid the other room won’t want to get up for the breakfast since it is a non park day. I don’t want to go to the breakfast by myself and I really don’t want to get hit with a $50.00 no show fee. Can I go to the restaurant anywhere after the 2 hour cancellation time and before the actual reservation time and cancel at the podium?

Cancel it now. You know your group. Character breakfast isn't punishment.

Unless something has recently changed the CM at the podium has the ability to waive the penalty. Do you want to wake up, get dressed, go to the restaurant, be told no then call your group and tell tell them they have 15 minutes to get to the restaurant?

The restaurant does have the ability to cancel it, but it is not guaranteed. I had an emergency work call come up during a visit last summer, I think it was, and I had too physically run over to the restaurant to cancel - it was a huge pain, and I wound up getting charged anyways. Honestly, sounds like you should cancel and book a character meal at a different time of day.

The best option might be to discuss the plans with them as you end the night before. They should know then if they want to get up early or not. Ask if they are going to be up in time & get a firm yes or no at that point. If they’re still not sure, tell them about the no show fee so you’re going to cancel right then if they can’t commit.

Sounds like you're up for breakfast. Any chance of taking 1 or 2 kids from room 2 and letting the parents sleep?

They are adults right? Try communicating with them like adults to adults. Ask if they want to do the breakfast and inform them if the reservation is missed they will be charged a late fee. They say yes we will be there or no let’s pass. Check in with everyone the night before if they are still in on breakfast since you can still cancel at that point.

If there are circumstances beyond your control, then the Blue umbrella guest services can cancel for you and waive the fee. Reasons would be sudden illness, transportation snafus not your fault or family emergency. People not getting up you could maybe talk your way out of it at guest services, but someone else could have had the ADR.

Part way into a trip, a solo meal without the “ other room” might feel divine!
