Quell my fear about FOP and GOTG...

For reference, I did fine on Harry Potter Gringotts and did fine on Everest and typically ride Big Thunder, Test Track, Millenium Falcon, etc with no worries. I really can't do much 'spinning' on rides and a swing or even teacups would get me, I don't like that back and forth motion. Soarin doesn't bother me either.

Never been on FOP and will be there later this month...I typically take Dramimine in the a.m. and it seems to help even on an airplane. I really want to ride it and understand 'following the leader' helps on the screen along with picking the upper row vs bottom row.

Re: Guardians, huge Marvel fan and I would be remiss if I didn't ride this after seeing the movies and being a massive fan of the Galaxy characters. Any other tips and tricks, what's a good row to pick from?

GOTG has a lot of lateral movement, side to side. It's really smooth, but it's FAST and it really is moving a lot. I mean, the whole thing is like a big spin. The row doesn't matter, it is like MMRR, the cars separate.

You should be fine. FoP is like a more immersive Soarin and GotG is similar to Gringotts in its motion.

If you are fine on Gringotts and Soarin, I don't think you'll have any problem at all on FOP. These two rides are probably the closest things to FOP. The whole floor moves instead of your individual seat, which is kind of like the way the vehicle moves in Gringotts during the film portions. But it's like Soarin, in that you feel like you are individually flying in front of a movie screen.

Guardians, is so hit and miss for people. You said you did okay on Everest. There are some G forces like those that you experience during the backwards portion of Everest. I wonder if this is part of what gets people because it is an atypical sensation. The car turns, but I don't think it's super spinny. Gringotts spins are probably a good comparison.

You should be fine on Flights, but if spinning rides bother you, I suggest you skip Guardians.
We just got back last week and my niece is a huge Guardians fan, and had to ride. She had a prescription patch for motion sickness on, and almost got sick anyway, the problem was the spinning for her.

I never get sick on rides, but FOP and GOTG threw me for a loop for sure. If you take Dramamine I think you'll be ok.

Very hit and miss. OP, you sound just like me. I'm fine on Gringotts, Mission space, Star Tours, Smugglers Run, FOP, any roller coaster, pretty much anything that doesn't spin in a tight circle, like the teacups.

This will not quell your fear but keep in mind everyone is different. For some reason, GOTG got me, big time. I wouldn't call it a "spinning ride" at all, but something about the turning me a different direction than the vehicle is moving, at high speed, no bueno for me. We rode it twice in a day back in September. The first time made me VERY queasy (as in, vomited not long after). Second time was much better, I took some Bonine a couple hours before. I think if the Bonine had time to fully get into my system, I would have been fine. I'll take it the night before next time.

Then you hear about people who get sick on everything, but they're fine on GOTG 🤷‍♂️

I'll say even though it made me queasy, it's one of my favorite rides in any theme park, just super fun and well done, IMO. If you're a Marvel fan definitely give it a go. I bet you'll be fine with Dramamine. I've heard the advice if you start feeling queasy, don't pay attention to the screens and just look straight ahead. I should have done that that first ride but it was just too cool to not look around lol.

If you don't mind spoilers, watch a POV ride video and see what you think. Personally I never watch videos before I ride something, but some people don't care.

I always think "spinny" scares some folks when talking about GOTG. The ride vehicles rotate while in motion, and thus it creates a lot of inertia while the cars transverse the track. It does not just spin and spin though!!
If you are a fan of the movies you should absolutely give it a try. You will not be disappointed!! But as mentioned, everyone is different!! If you do ride it, "I trust you will find it an unforgettable experience!!"

THIS times 1 million for me!! I am absolutely in love with the ride!!
Hands down the best theme park attraction, EVER!!

I’m a complete coaster whimp but I love Guardians and it’s one of my favourite rides full stop. Best advice I can give you to avoid any motion sickness is to just look straight ahead during the ride and don’t try to keep turning to look at the screens while you’re going around. When Disney wants you to look at them then the car itself will turn to face them.

Unfortunately, I can't quell your fears...

I hated HP Forbidden Journey and Gringotts. I won't ride either of them again.

I'm good with all Disney rides except GOTG. I'm not sure why. I wasn't nauseous at all; I was disoriented. It was like my brain couldn't handle going sideways and turning. I'm good with going forward and backward, but that turning and going fast sideways was not fun for me.

I closed my eyes for basically the entire ride to get through it. I did survive.

I'm going to give it one more shot, this time with some Bonine. I'm hoping maybe that will help. Not sure it will, but I'm willing to try.

The cars do not separate, they are attached to each other they just change direction they are facing but the order of vehicles remain the same since they are attached.

Forbidden Journey is very rough for me, never again! A true 'no go' and I'm still not going to do Mission Space either! Maybe a double dose of Dramimine that morning, thanks!

I hate Forbidden Journey, it's just too much motion for me. I have no issues with Guardians or Flight of Passage.

I agree with this- guardians cars move, but they aren’t spinning around in circles. I wouldn’t use “spinny” to describe it- more like a side to side motion along with the track. I loved it! It feels more like a roller coaster than a “spinny” ride to me. Best ride in all of WDW!

I had been to the parks several times and didn’t ride GOG because of fear of getting motion sickness. I do fine on Everest once if I go twice in a row I get a little queasy. Finally on our last trip I snagged an afternoon virtual que at like 3 o’clock in the afternoon when we walked into Epcot, crazy, and the call back time was approximately when we would be leaving so I said if I get sick at least we’re going back to the hotel after. The ride is amazing and smooth. A few times I started to feel a little bit and closed my eyes for a second and was fine, so much so that I rode 2 more times during our trip.

I wont even rode Big Thunder but Guardians is my favorite ride. It’s fast but so smooth, and while it takes turns it’s not tight spinning like Teacups. No big drops. My husband does get motion sick on some rides but he chews on a ginger candy while in line for guardians, makes sure he eats something beforehand (did it once on an empty stomach and he felt worse), and asks for front row (CMs and some floggers have recommended that). He looks more at the track than any screens. Feels fine after. FOP he cannot do at all, it made him feel like hot garbage.

For FOP, if you start to feel sick, close your eyes. I can't do "spinny" things anymore very well. But I have days where FOP doesn't bother me at all and there are days when it does. I gave GotG a try twice. First time I had taken Bonine in the morning, but we didn't end up doing the ride until the evening. I was uncomfortable after the ride, but I recovered shortly after. The second time, I took the Bonine in the mid-morning and we did the ride in the early afternoon. I faired better the second time around.

The ride is smooth, but fast. There is a vortex. The music is loud and if you can distract yourself in the music a bit, I found that helped a little. They really did do a good job with this ride (except some of the pre-view, imo), so I think it is good to experience it once. You will only know how you react to it if you ride it. :)

Also, I kept my eyes closed for most of the first ride. I tried opening them a little more for the second ride. I'm not sure that made much of a difference.

Good luck!

I generally can’t do anything that spins but was eager to try Guardians, so I got a prescription for the scopalamine patch for the first time in years, and it worked like a charm. I would not do that ride without it.

I have to close my eyes on the backward part of everest but am fine the rest of the ride. First time I rode FOP it made me dizzy but I think it was because I couldn't keep the glasses on my face. They must have changed them because they stay on now. I still feel a tad woozy when I get off and don't really ride it often now. Not worth it. I rode guardians and about 10 seconds in had to close my eyes and was just praying for it to end. Had to sit in the shade and sip water for about half hour after. I can't even tell you what song was playing. I might try to ride it one more time taking bonine the night before and the morning of, which is what I do when I dive. You need to get it in your system the night before for it to work well.
