Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good morning. Another 55-60 degree sun filled day. We'll take it. No chance of a white Christmas according to the weatherman. Even my friend in CO has no forecast for snow and temps will be near 60 most of the week.
I might make my English Teacake cookies today. One tradition I'm not ready to give up yet. This one goes back to when I was young. I know they aren't traditional Christmas cookies, but my mother only made them at this time of year.

I caught up on some more shows yesterday. The dvr is practically empty, so time to start watching Hulu or Netflix and finding something else to watch. Handmaid's Tale is at the top of my list for now.

Have a nice Saturday. Saying prayers for all who need them.

@dazedx3 Happy Anniversary. Kris is with you in spirit.

Lynn I agree with SpaceMan5. You need to do what is best for you as far as going with your SILs to their group. My younger DS invited me to go with them to his inlaws for Christmas last year. I went against my better judgment. It was a large family gathering of over 20 people and I knew very few people. It did not go well so I now know, do not do that again! I doubt that they will invite me again thankfully. English teacake cookies sound good. I will make my sugar cookies next week. I have been making them since the first Christmas Chris and I were married. It is out of the Betty Crocker cookbook.

@Pea-n-Me Congrats to your DS on the flight. I hope you feel better soon.

So far today I have been to Wegman's, changed the bed, cleaned the bathrooms, and ran the dishwasher. I need to walk so may see if the park is too busy with dogs to walk there. If so I will just walk around here. I did join the gym yesterday. I understand about germs but I feel like I need to get out and do something for me. I was thinking of getting an exercise bike here and just doing that but it is so lonely. My doctor is concerned about my anxiety and grief so I am trying to get out of my comfort zone a bit and get out with people even just to see others. The gym does have a small area for women only that was not crowded at all yesterday so that may be a good place to go. I will not go on weekends as I am sure it will be crazy.

Have a good day.

Does anyone remember Curves? At one time I loved going there and I met so many friends from around town! I think it’s good you’re going, then, Snowysmom, and I’m really glad your doctor took the time to really talk to you. That’s great.

Lynn I am going to have to look up English Teacake cookies. They sound delish!

I hope everyone has a good Saturday! 🐥

I don't think the ones you find are going to be anything like mine. The recipe is old, lol.
I'll post it on here for you

I'll post a pic after I make them, the ones I found online don't look anything like mine

English Teacakes
----------------

1 stick butter
1.2 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup sifted 10X sugar
1/2 cup currants
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
1 1/2 cups sifter flour
1/2 tsp baking powder

Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla and egg and beat until fluffy. Stir in currants. Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder in separate bowl. Blend into butter mixture. Form in large marble sized balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass. Bake at 350 for 12-15 min
_______________________________________________________________________________
Icing
--------
1 1.2 cups sifter 10x sugar
Add 11/2 tab milk and 3/4 tsp of vanilla. Add more milk if you want it to be slightly thinner
Tint if desired (for some reason, even though she only made them at Christmas, my mother always tinted them pink)

I finally have the last of the trash in the car to go down to the street on Tuesday afternoon. I can move in the cellar again, all I have to do is reorganize the yard sale piles. I'm going to clean it and price it and write it all on a list as I go, so I don't have to do it this Spring. There are 3 huge boxes of stuff, plus an exercise bike, a big telescope, 3 air conditioners, 2 tv's and a dvd player that all need to go in there. Plus a lot of pictures, games, glassware, etc. While I'm not looking forward to having to drag it all upstairs and outside when the time comes, it will be nice to have all of it gone. What doesn't sell is going to get marked free after a few hours. Anything that doesn't get taken, is going in the trash that week.

It's nice and sunny and fairly warm outside. I just rearranged the shed now that all the trash is gone. Only thing left to go is the replacement grill Coleman sent me that I told Summer she can have. I told her to come and get it, or I'm putting a free sign on it and putting it in the driveway. If I don't set a time limit, she'll leave it here until Spring along with the portable air conditioner she's taking. That's in the cellar and either one of her boys, or her husband has to bring it up so she can take it home. I'm done tripping over this stuff. She's known it's here for 5 weeks now, I want it gone.

Saturday :grouphug: to all my dear Quacker family always with love and care. So proud of you dear Snowysmom! Lynn, and Dazed, extra, too. Take care of yourselves. Don't isolate. Know God loves you. He is with you and from all over the country your Quacker family is sending xoxo too.

Mercy of God last night was a ton better for me. Dad and I got more sleep. I still got up 6 total times but in between I slept much more and easily, praise God! I'm becoming stronger and healing. For me the key still seems to be movement every hour, hour and 15 minutes. Otherwise, the back of my knee, especially my left leg becomes so stiff and sore. My foot, of course, will hurt more then, too. Pain-wise, thank God that is improving. I've been doing 1000mg or so a day of ibuprofen. I pray to cut that down next week a bit. I may have shared this already, but I've also been doing my best to ease the ibuprofen effects on my system. I enjoy extra of my favorite Sprouts brand applesauce (Lol they should hire me to sell it) and an extra 6oz of my favorite hot chocolate a day. I figure, I am thin, I have so little of the cocoa plus we make it with milk and don't add anything to it such as whipped cream (I have never liked) or chocolate syrup or candy, that the cocoa in a way is good for me. It definitely is comforting and soothing.

Take Care everyone and have a good evening please. XO

Good gray and cloudy Sunday morning. Calling for pouring rain by noontime. Temps still mild for this time of year though.
I watched "A Not So Royal Christmas" on Hallmark last night and was in bed by 11.

I got all 4 of the new kitchen chairs put together yesterday. The instructions said it might take 30 minutes to put one together, I did the first 2 in less than 30, lol. Originally I only wanted 2, the kitchen table is small, but for some reason when I ordered them from Bed Bath and Beyond (I miss Overstock!), I never noticed it was a set of 2. So I ended up with 4 chairs. I was going to return 2 of them, until I found out they were going to charge me almost 90% of what I paid for a set to return it. For that cost, I decided to keep all 4 of them. They are a rip off and I will never buy anything from them again.

They match my kitchen table perfectly and the cushions I got match the wall color almost exactly. I don't know if it was turning the allen wrench to put the bolts in that aggravated my right hand, but when I went to bed, it was so sore I could barely move it. It had been fine all night long until then. I put Icy Hot on it and took Tylenol and it's almost back to normal this morning.

Lynn I like your table and chairs. I hope you enjoy the cookies.

@PollyannaMom I like your picture of the tea party celebration. Those are the kind of things I really like. So much history around here.

I remember curves. It was almost like a cult thing. People really took that workout seriously.

I am back from Jeff's. We went out to dinner last night at a pub style place. The kids liked their meals which is a good thing. Then back to the house where they got ready for bed. Jeff and Aimee went to their show in Boston while I just listened to the kids sleep on the monitor. This morning they were busy getting ready for their group of friends to come over so I got out of the way early after offering to help with anything. I will be going to CVS to get a few toiletries for when I stay at Kenny's house for a few nights.

Yesterday I tried to get on my work laptop and it is completely dead. I went to Kenny's to try a different docking station to see if that was it but no go. I texted my boss and emailed tech support on my personal email. They called and said to go into the office tomorrow to get a new one. I asked for a new one about 6 months ago as my laptop was slowing down. My boss said she would ask but nothing came of it. Now I have to ride in early tomorrow morning in the rain. Tech support starts at 8 but luckily I have some housekeeping kind of stuff to do that I have not had the time to do. I had to cancel 2 appts for tomorrow which I am not happy about. One was having the builder rep come and look at punch list items, not that they are planning on working on them soon. Now they won't come back until after the holidays. Not sure why they just can't reschedule to the next day. Then I had an appt at the gym with a trainer to just go over the machines I want to do. I rescheduled. I am telling my boss since I have to go in Monday I am not going in Thursday too. See what see says. I am beyond upset about this. It just seems like it is one thing after another. And avoidable as I did give them warning my laptop was on its' way out.

Have a good rest of the day.

Lynn, table looks great! Impressed with how handy you are! How were the tea cookies? I forgot to ask DH about them (old baker) just to see if he knew what they are. We’re not baking any cookies, we don’t need them. There will be plenty where we go for the holiday and we often take a some home. DD and I used go to a cookie party every year but the friend who ran it moved. We had way too many cookies to take home then, but I would just take them into work (where everything not nailed down gets gobbled down in record time). I am thinking about making something to bring into work to share later this week, not sure what. Something festive. Have seen a few things on IG I might try out.

Snowysmom, is there a way you can just say you’re not going in tomorrow to get a new laptop and that you’ll get it later in the week? I seem to see a lot of people making up their own rules at work, why shouldn’t we on occasion, too? ;) It’s a long hike to do in bad weather right before a holiday. Traffic around here has been a nightmare (and I assume it is there, too). DD had two 1.5 hr commutes last week just sitting in traffic. Curves used to be so much fun. I loved the owner, we became friends, and as I said, I met so many people. A quick 30 min workout to great music and it really made a difference in how I looked and felt. And all women. Too bad they’re all gone now.

PollyannaMom that must’ve been a lot of fun! I saw this on IG last night and saved it to post here (of the “colonists” throwing the tea overboard into Boston Harbor). I hadn’t heard about it, but my lungs still aren’t doing too well outside in the cold anyway. I have to venture out today before it rains.

We’re grillling steak tips, baked potatoes and asparagus later.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday! 🐥 Hugs to all.

It was! - We actually met up at the Grand lodge building, which I'd never been in, and they had a display of artifacts from the event/people involved (loaned from different museums/lodges) that were cool to see:

This is from the Green Dragon Tavern. It's not the one that actually hung there during the planning of the Tea Party (because there was a fire years later) but is the one that replaced it.

Then a big group of Masons and their families processed from there to the Old State House, where there were some speeches (that we couldn't really hear - too far back). Then we waited around forever for the procession to the harbor, but once we started moving, it was cool. - People randomly shouting "Huzzah!" and "Dump the Tea!", and just a real feeling of being part of something. Once there, everything was up on the jumbo screen, so you could see even if you weren't close, and it was a good presentation. Here's some video from the news station's YouTube:

Pea I need the laptop for work so no way around going in to get it tomorrow. I just don't want to have to go in a second day this week. It is year end so I need to be up to date and I am behind right now just from taking off Friday and not working over the weekend for a couple of hours. The traffic has not been too bad but I avoid the big shopping areas.

I made 2 batches of peanut butter blossoms and 2 batches of gum drop cookies today. I have some others in the freezer. That is enough, I’ve already eaten too many. Then I washed a few windows.
Yesterday I wrapped all the presents, except one I still have to buy. I put a few decorations outside, not much , and made up the guest bedrooms. Today is DD‘s 1st wedding anniversary, they are celebrating in New Orleans.
Have a peaceful day friends!

Peace and Love extra this Sunday to all! Thinking of each of you! Dad just left quickly for Pavilions. Tomorrow he will do laundry and Tuesday Ralphs. Then it is supposed to rain here as well. Getting stronger day by day mercy of God. Not always easy, I pray to give thanks forever in all. I am so blessed. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks. By His utter Grace and Love, I have come so far! A week from tomorrow is Christmas. It feels sad not having my Manger scene set up this year. I know that is not needed to I pray walk closer to and with Christ anew in the Manger. I still need to get a one-piece smaller Nativity. ❤️to all.

Looks really nice! Sorry about the pain but at least it sounds temporary, we hope.

@flyingdumbo127 , so happy to read that you are feeling better.

I also think Lynn’s table/chairs are lovely. @Snowysmom , I hope you don’t have to go in on Thursday!

We really enjoyed the weekend with both sons, and one daughter-in-law. I haven’t been posting much these days. However, I am thrilled that we were able to rent our NYE reservation at BLT. VERY grateful for the Disboards! I have posted here since 2003, and have met very good friends both on line and for in person meets. It really felt good to rent the reservation and make a bit of money toward next years dues.

Tom and I have a late January DVC trip planned for the Festival of the Arts. During that time, we will meet up with two Disboards friends. We think we will drive, and I hope we will be able to do that.

Thanks dear Bobbi! I extra pray you and Tom are able to take your trip and enjoy such a fun and healthy time! How are you feeling?:grouphug:

Lynn:hug:I meant to say earlier how nice your new chairs look. Dad and I still need comfortable new kitchen chairs. If we lived closer, we could buy the extra chairs from you :)
