Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Also got to buy and send her Dad a postcard from Main St USA, stamped and all
Oh boy, she will be tickled with that - good idea!
Glad Mona will have bloodwork, imaging, and either consultation or referral to an appropriate specialist.
Agreed.
I haven't heard anymore from Mona and didn't get any reply to my last text asking for an update. Hopefully she'll be back this morning sometime to let us all know what's going on. I'm sure she appreciates all the prayers. I hope they are able to do something to help the discomfort she's been having with her feet.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop and letting us know. We are all just hoping she can get some answers and a resolution to her situation - so maybe not hearing from her means she's in the midst of some sort of treatment, which would be great!

She then printed out a mini version of the book cover and we just cut those out and stuck them on foam board (mini size) and put them in a clear ornament. It doesn't sound elaborate but it will be cute to be able to go back and see it from year to year.
Oooh - that sounds really neat! I should do it with the Harry Potter books for my oldest niece.

With all my heart thank you all so much, especially dear Lynn for posting this for me!

Quick message, I am exhausted. I got home around 2am this morning from ER at Cedars Sinai. Dad came home a bit earlier because he drove. I came home via ambulance to get me up the stairs. I had been there since around 1 or 1:30pm Monday afternoon. Excruciating feet pain. Dad called 911. CT Scans and X-rays at last revealed two fractured toes in my left foot. That is why I am in so much agony. I got a boot to stabilize my toe. So far it just hurts. I am still in pain now. Doctor said it will get better. I was up most of the night, left foot spams. They did give me Tylenol with Codeine. I have a 2-day prescription of it as well. Dad will get it later. Such a blessing to have a true cause now and know it is not heart, stroke, or diabetes. Doctors very nice, I saw two and the CT scan technician was a lovely lady. Doctor said 6-8 weeks for healing. Today we will try to work out logistics. I'll need some in-home help. Continuing extra prayers and good wishes so much appreciated.

Glad to hear that you now know what is wrong and that you can work towards getting better.

Glad you got some answers, Mona. Wait till the podiatrist hears your toes were broken! 😳 You’d think she would’ve picked up on that when you saw her. I can’t recall, how did you injure them? I just remember when you went shopping your feet were sore afterward. Did you hit them? I had two broken toes a couple of years ago from jumping in a shallow pool and yes, it was truly painful!

Whoa - how did the podiatrist or Dr.'s you saw before miss that? Come to think of it, how is it they never x-rayed your foot before now? Crazy!
Glad that you got the answer and can now properly heal and move on to feeling better.
Any idea how you did it? Do you recall tripping on anything or kicking anything?

Hi everyone:grouphug:Thank you again and always for all your added love and prayers. Sincerely I am touched.

Dr. Y, the podiatrist, when I saw her in mid-September never did any x-rays or CT scan. at the time I didn't think of that then because it wasn't the degree it became :/ I talked with Dr. Y this morning. Honestly her receptionist M, seemed more compassionate. Dr. Y was, of course, very kind, to spend a lot of time on the phone with me again for free, I will follow up with her next week. Meantime, please pray I get pain relief! Dad never did get the 2-day prescription if Tylenol with codeine. I realized that early this morning the second double dosage didn't help me at all :( The first dose did some. My cousin, Michelle, who is a doctor in IL, and I spoke with this morning, reminded me that Tylenol is meant to take edge off pain. Ibuprofen is meant to help reduce swelling and inflammation, more the actual cause. For the next couple of days, I am going to try taking a higher dose of ibuprofen than I had been at It did seem to help me this morning. Starting to wear off now, almost 4 hours later. Michelle said to take it every 6 hours. Trying 100mg a day or so. Dr. Y did say I could do 1600mg a day. I have been taking this stuff for 2 months. A very low dose and remember this is a kid's medicine because it is liquid. I know I need to be cautious with it.

Have a good rest of the day friends.

I am a little confused. Weren’t both of your feet bothering you, Mona?

You shouldn’t have to be the one to direct a doctor to what tests you need - that’s their job. Also, if the ER doc said your toes would heal in six weeks, well, it’s been more than six weeks and you’re still having this awful pain! Not sure what happened to break your toes, but I am concerned that there could be more than that going on, and think you need to continue to re-assess how it’s going and follow up with a PCP about it. An ER doc you may see once; a PCP is there continuously. You’re a team about follow up - you let them know how you’re doing, and they continue to see if there’s anything else you need. That’s really why a PCP is someone it’s important to have a good relationship with. Re-assessment is always something we have to do. Only rarely are problems and issues solved with one quick visit. If both feet are bothering you it only makes sense that there could be more than just toes broken on one foot, right?

I’m glad your cousin hammered home the point that the anti-inflammatory effect of the ibuprofen is a good thing. As I said before, my mother took 400mg three times a day for at least 25 years, probably more, for her arthritis. With a history of a bleeding ulcer and still did fine with it. (Though we re-assessed constantly.) She did take a daily omemprazole for stomach protection, too, which wouldn’t be a bad idea. They do make liquid ibuprofen for adults so make sure you’re taking the right amount if you’re using a pediatric formulation.

As we’ve talked about, and others have suggested here, there are aids you can get for home use that can help you in your activities of daily living, such as walkers, shower chairs, perhaps a wheelchair, etc., and many of us have given lots of suggestions on where these can be obtained. Many people let them go for free - I know I have a cellar full myself. You can check with your local Council on Aging Who will very likely be able to help you.

So hoping you’re at least a little relieved that you have some answers and the added bonus of knowing that your bloodwork looked ok. It’s also always good when they don’t find anything else going on on a CT. 😅 (Incidental findings aren’t unusual.) I would strongly suggest to continue to watch your sodium intake to help avoid foot swelling, and to elevate that foot with the broken toes on a pillow while you’re sitting. Swelling is in part what causes pain.

I’m glad you had such a nice outpouring of support here, Mona. :grouphug: We all care and want to help you.

It's raining pretty hard, they say it could mix with snow overnight.
I just got home from errands and shopping.

Walmart was a nightmare. Empty shelves all over the place, and higher prices on everything. I paid $1.58 for a dozen of jumbo eggs last week, and today they were $2.38. That's a heck of a big jump

I returned the defective shredder to Kohls, and the no longer needed HDMI cables to UPS. Went to the bank and deposited the life insurance checks.

Just put everything away, time to find something to eat

Have a nice evening

:thanks::hug:dear Pea, and of course you are 100%+ right in that it is not my job to direct a doctor! Yesterday morning I somehow took a shower. Dad and I as I have shared have an old-fashioned tub/shower combination. Throughout all this, as you can imagine, especially over the last month, showering has been a huge ordeal for me and safety issue. I was able by God's Grace to do it. Yes, Dr. Y when I saw her for the one and only time in person mid-September, said both feet were inflamed. A tendon in my left foot was especially so. As you and everyone else knows over the last month, month and a half, this has exploded and become a HUGE issue for me all-around.

Yesterday when I attempted to get up to use the bathroom before dad and I were to start lunch, I was in absolutely unchartered pain. Unbelievably bad. We made the huge mistake of applying some Tiger Balm. Don't ever, ever do this friends. It BURNS. Dad called 911 and two kind EMT's transported me to the hospital. As I said, I was there a good 11 hours. Dad, over 10:scared1:He drove home when we thought I would be transported home via hospital ambulance service shortly. Turned out I didn't get home until about 2am. They had said midnight for when the ambulance was to come. Dad stayed until close to 1am.

I saw two ER doctors yesterday, the kind CT Tech, J, who I mentioned, and 2 X-Ray techs who I admit could have been a little more patient, but I sure appreciated them. The second ER doctor, Dr. A was who tended to me after I had had the x-rays and CT scans of my feet and legs. The first doctor I just saw finally once brought in after a good 3-4 hours! She was the person who ordered these tests.

Anyway, Dr. A said the fractured toes happened very recently. That has to be true because otherwise I would have been screaming in pain much earlier. Until yesterday, overall, with Yelena's (my neighbor's) walker I was managing. Not well of course but managing. So, whether the fractured toes were caused possibly by a shower attempt or walking wrong or muscle deterioration from lack of consistent use, I don't know. I was just so very relieved last night to know no surgery was needed. I don't have a heart issue, stroke risk, or diabetes. This is curable. Just takes time sadly 6-8 weeks :(

Target Ibuprofen. Michelle my cousin suggested 5oomg twice a day to try over the next couple of days. I think she said 500mg a time. I will re-check. I just took 400mg. I would rather do 3, 400mg doses for sure. But am not sure if the two higher does would do more for me faster? I did take that dosage around 11am this morning. It did help me until around 3ish. I will be taking a second dose shortly. I pray it works! I just have to, and poor dad really does, get some sleep tonight. I found out btw that I don't need to wear the boot for sleeping. The problem is I do need to wear it at all other times even going to the restroom overnight. Dad and I are trying to figure out how we can do that! I typically get up once more urgently for bathroom about 3 hours into sleep sometimes less and then once more. Dad does not need to be helping me at that hour. He does more than enough for me at all other hours.

I did call my insurance company and also a nurses' hotline associated with them. I found out that a caregiver and shower chair would be covered if authorized by a doctor. Working on that. Will know more tomorrow. Trying to get down logistics. I also realized other than being told to follow-up with the podiatrist and that healing would be 6-8 weeks, more information about the boot. I could have also been half asleep, to be fair to Dr. A, when he did explain whether I need to wear the boot the entire time or how that works. Also showering. Right now, a real shower is out of the question. Yelena recommended an Amazon product which we ordered of soap free sponges, Scrubzz. I also have larger wipes. I definitely want to find out when I could attempt a real shower. I would need help with this at least initially. Dad and I don't have the money to privately hire a caregiver especially at night, so we need to through the insurance steps. Please pray for us both and of course for me to get out of pain. Doctor did promise this will get easier. Ruth an elderly friend from church was a great cheerleader as well. Ruth also told me years ago she broke her foot and wore a boot which helped her a lot. She encouraged me on mine. I'm going to carefully look at my discharge papers from last night to see whether a phone number is listed for after-ER visit questions.

Feeling sleepy again. Dad thank God did nap a bit, he just got up. I realized it would be better to try and be extra tired tonight for God willing a much better sleep. Have a good night friends and be well. Know you are loved.

Maybe you bumped your toes or slipped or something in the middle of the night and didn’t realize you hurt them since your feet were already in so much pain anyway. That still leaves the issue of why your feet hurt before that. Just something to keep in mind.

The ibuprofen you can take four times a day, because, as you’ve seen, it wears off after five or six hours or so. Keep it going round the clock and it should help keep you relatively comfortable.

I sure hope you can get some sleep tonight. :flower3: And your Dad! Consider a bedside commode for the time being, that way you just have to stand and pivot rather than walking all the way to the bathroom and back. I doubt your Dad would mind emptying it if it helped you (and him) get some better sleep!

Thaks, Pea. I definitely think spacing out better the ibuprofen will help. I did feel sleepy with the higher dose and need to feel more that way right now not a couple hours ago! What do you think I should try to take and how long? My friend Ruth suggested a commode. The problem is still I'd need the boot on (I don't need to wear it in bed) and would need to then get onto it and back up to the bed. Tomorrow, I am expecting the doctor's office to call to schedule an exam virtually. I may never know for sure. I do think degernation from non-use pretty much going on 4 years played a huge role in my feet issue. I think that the not wearing slippers for a week only set that all of which was already in motion. A truer root cause no idea, First priority now is to get out of daily pain and go from there! Hugs dear friend and to all sweet dreams.

Mona So sorry you are going through all of this. The good news is you saw doctors and had tests done so now you know what is going on. You have doctors to help you get through this. And Pea is such a good resource for you. She is so kind and caring and knowledgeable. She is right about a PCP. A PCP your connection to better health care. I hope you can find just the right spacing of the ibuprofen that gives you the best pain relief. I also hope you and your Dad get some sleep. Thinking of you and sending prayers to you.

Lynn Prices are only going up lately. I don't really understand it. I hope you had a nice evening and got some rest.

It is 27 here now and only going into the 30s today. It looks like the Cape and that area may be getting a bit of snow, a coating to an inch or 2 possibly tomorrow morning. I saw my therapist yesterday and it was an intense visit. She is trying a new therapy. We shall see how it goes. I got the inspector's report and printed out the pages I am going to send to the builder. I will scan them over once I scan them to me tomorrow. It mostly has to do with water issues as I suspected. Kenny said he will fill in the settling crack and if the builder will not put the crushed stone in the window wells, he will do it. At least now I know more than I did and hopefully it will help. Kenny and kids are taking me out for my birthday this evening. We are going for BBQ. I appreciate it but it is a tough day for me and I just really want to chill. Chris made my birthday so special so today is very bittersweet.

Off to a busy day of work. Have a good day.

@Snowysmom - I'm skimming and sort of behind a lot. Am I understanding that today is your birthday?

If so, Happy Birthday! If not, I'm going to consider that I'm either slightly late or a bit early!

It's 55 here at BWV, and I don't want to get out of bed because I have to leave this morning. It's not all bad as I'm in no hurry as I'm headed for Hilton Head today and will be there for a couple of days. I love that place! It's 47 at home and only going to 58 at Hilton Head, so not a whole lot of difference.

At the very least, it's not raining! Don't love driving in rain!

Watched the new Luminous at Epcot from my balcony last night. I actually think I saw more fireworks on the weekend when I awoke after midnite to the testing going on. I'll probably see it in park in February. I waffled a lot about going to parks yesterday and eventually rode the bus to Disney Springs and shopped for a while then had a very late lunch and came back home. Early morning, before 8, I went to Ale and Compass for breakfast. Took bird pictures and walked around the lake. Peaceful day. Lunch was a holiday turkey sandwich from Earl of Sandwich and it was tasty. I saved the other half for later. (Later doesn't always come!) I had a $7 sandwich on my phone from their email, and it scanned easily, but the price came up as $6.34 incl tax. I like Disney math. Price on the wall was $8.99.

My big purchase while there was a set of metal measuring spoons! I have plenty of plastic ones at home with the 'measurement' wore off so it's time to toss and replace, but not something I give a lot of thought to. But DD needs to be 'exact' lol.

Okay, time to get up.

Oh, one last thing! Surprise email from my old college buddy! Last time we 'talked' was email (etc) after her husband passed several years ago. There's a long distance between us and we don't keep up, per se, but that doesn't mean anything much other than we are doing other things.

We've always had a relationship where when we get together we are right there all over again. As if time has stood still. Apparently she didn't couldn't reach me on my cell and I long ago shut down the landlines. The cell issue is she is in another country and I have to turn on calling for that country, as simple as that. Got that done and will call as soon as it's a decent time. I'm excited because I'm thinking she might want to come visit!
