Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good Morning and Happy April to all,

Prayers for positive house and condo news for you today, Snowysmom! May this weekend be one of greater peace for you as well.

:) Lynn and I agree. I'll also add when a store still has a product from one week to the next in general. Great suggestion from Judique to test out any riding lawn mower option at the store first sort of like a ECV I would gather. I hope you find one that is easy to operate and works well for you. I also, of course, pray that one of these days you will find someone reliable to give you a handy with all the work you do!

I hope all is calmer out where you are, PollyannaMom. Thinking of you.

Wow, Footballmouse, what a day! Happy 90th Birthday to your Aunt. God Bless her. I hope her party is a lot of fun. Get some rest!

Prayers for a tapering of the storm today Judique and all in the path! Hope in general you are feeling better, Judique, too.

Waving hi to you, Easyas and thinking of your neighbor Carol, hope you're doing well this day also :)

Hug and much continued prayer, Bobbiwoz.

Dad is out doing laundry. I'm thankful that he just might, finally, stay home all weekend.

Have a good and safe Friday, friends. I'll check in later.

I just couldn’t do the MRI… tried twice.

I HAVE a schedule now for skim cancer radiation treatments and will be getting script for open MRI.

Am feeling disappointed in myself, and will have to get over it, I know. The medical staff told me not to be hard on myself. Still I feel bad.

Good afternoon.

I survived work day at camp yesterday. There were about 12 of us there. We split up into different crews. DH and I went with 3 other guys and a camp staffer to move 400 mattresses (2-3 inches thick, not heavy) from the maintenance shed into cabinets spread all over camp. We went to the shed, loaded about 36 mattresses onto a flatbed trailer then the staffer drove to a group of cabins and we followed on golf carts. DD and DSIL always talked about driving them all over camp when they were staffers. When they got married then had a wedding picture taken on a golf cart. So, DH and I took turns driving ours and it was fun. It took us until after lunch to finish. Then DH and I went and helped a friend who was cleaning chairs on the dining hall porch. Other groups were painting benches. We had lunch provided to us in the dining hall and I thought it was good. Baked potato, topping, chili, salad, and a cookie for lunch. Lasagna, broccoli, garlic bread, salad, and cheese cake for dinner. Most of us went home but some stayed over. We enjoyed the fellowship at meals time, and while working. There are people working today and tomorrow but one day did me in.

Today just catching up around the house. We planned a 4 night get away the end of April. Two nights at the lodge in Tygart Lake State Park near Grafton, WV then 2 nights in the lodge at Blackwater Falls State Park about 1.5 hours away in WV. My paternal grandparents are from Grafton which is where my father was born. DH has wanted to go and I wanted to find their grave site. I did some research and this morning called the owner of the cemetery and he researched and called me back promptly with the location.

$12.60- nice haul!
It was more about getting two 2 drawer file cabinets out of the house, plus some other metal that had accumulated. Not even enough to cover lunch.
We have a severe thunderstorm watch for 9pm tonight. right now it's 69 and windy, but it was very windy in early afternoon. They keep talking rain but we've had very little.
I think the media really hypes the storm.
We were due for a chance of T-storms around 4:30, and then around 10 or so tonight.
Around 4:30 it rained hard for a moment or two, but was done by 4:35. A tad windy, and had remained pretty windy this evening.
We got that 5 minute downpour at camp then the sun came out for a while. But it got cloudy again so we didn't stay for sunset.
Maybe some news on my house today. We shall see. I am very stressed and anxious about the whole thing.
I hope you get good news about selling and buying. I know the stress.
I have a John Deere
All this talk of lawn tractors. We have been in our house 34 years. We bought a Craftsman used for the first mower, a new Cub Cadet for the second, and a new John Deere for the third. I could drive them all. DH would have gotten another Cub but he wanted to shop at one of the tractor stores, not Loews or Home Depot, and they only had Deere. If one of the places will do delivery and maintenance, I would consider that. It costs us a lot to have it picked up and taken for repair.

Tomorrow we go visit Marty at home, at the same time and Tessa and Cater get to meet their cousin.

Don't you feel one bit bad about the closed MRI !!

I did one years ago that was closed and at the time I'm not even sure they had open ones. It was scary. Since then I've had quite a few MRI's and will NOT do a closed one.

With all this talk of lawnmowers I tried to find you guys a picture of the tractor my husband gifted me, but the JD site was being wonky. I found one on a auction site -

This was what my old tractor looked like (so you can see, it was quite the upgrade for me!

Of course, as far as farm tractors go, these are rather tame. But seeing as I often spend hours at a time in the seat, I'm happy for the upgrade!

@bobbiwoz So many people cannot do an MRI. Do not feel at all upset about it. It is tough. I cannot do it either. When I had a knee MRI many years ago and only in up to my chest, I had a major anxiety attack. An open MRI sounds like a better solution.

@flyingdumbo127 You are such a good friend to try to find out about the 99 cent store 99th birthday promotion.

It looks like weather has been bad all over the place. Here it is cloudy and windy but still on the warm side.

No news yet on my house. It is taking them way too long to do the wetlands study. I am concerned it is bad news but I never knew of any kind of wetlands on my property. I know there are some nearby but not on mine. I wish they would come back with news so I can have a more relaxing weekend. Right now I am nervous and anxious.

Good evening,

Sorry I never did come back until now. It ended up being a busier afternoon although much of it was spent trying to be warm while reading on the couch lol :)

Big hug, Bobbiwoz! Please take care and know all of us care!

Carol, hug, and welcome back. Wow, thank you so much and everyone else for all you did at the church camp. I would have loved to help with that :)

Thank you for the ducky cheer, dear PollyannaMom!

Thanks, Snowysmom and an extra hug to you! I did talk with the 99 Cent Only Store this afternoon. The man I spoke to said he thought the promotion is still available and that someone from marketing will be contacting me next week. I will keep all of you posted! I updated Sue, who got a kick out of it. I hope she will win! :)

I know nothing about tractors or mowers so no help there!

Lynn, I hope all is well out your way.

Thinking of you, too, Pea!

Extra grateful this day for the weekend ahead with dad (I pray) staying home, a snail mail reply from a friend, and a kind gifts of books along with, more meaningful, of course, being able to pass on some books to other friends.

Love to all and sweet dreams, too.

I made a good dinner tonight. I had fresh asparagus and roasted it with cherry tomatoes with balsamic vinegar and pepper. Baked a sweet potato and cooked a ham slice in a frying pan. Tasty!

@easyas123, I am jealous of your big tractor but it would be overkill for our yard. Put a laughing smiley here. I miss the smilies.

Good night everyone.

Good morning all--the weekend is here again. Going to be a nice one, weather wise, with temps near 50, but chilly in the mornings. I have a bridal shower to go to this afternoon for our nephew's fiancee. I am a little unsure about it, as it will be the first time I am at a gathering like that since Covid started. Other than a store or a Dr's office (or hospital), I haven't been around a crowd of people since March 2020. I am going to try and maintain distance from people there, just in case. Mr L says he will be okay alone for a few hours.

Still waiting for my handyman to come and look over his project list for here, to see what he needs. It's been a week now, guess I have to start leaving him voicemails every day till he gets out this way.

@Breezy_Carol, I agree with you about @easyas123's big tractor. It's about 3x the size I would need. A small lawn tractor will get the job done for me. Place is only open till noon today, so now it will have to wait till Monday. I will probably have to have them order the one I want, as they most likely sold all 4 of the ones they got in on Tuesday. I can trim the high spots on the lawn with the weedwacker, or just take the other mower out.

Mr L talked to his daughter yesterday. Her shoulder is really hurting her. The only time it doesn't is when she is walking/pacing around. Says it feels like the sling on her arm is pulling too much when she tries to sit or lay. She did say the Dr said it was nowhere near as bad as he expected it to be. Only took 2 hours instead of the 4 he was planning. He didn't have to graft a bone to attach the tendon to, there was enough for him to put the screw in. She has a long 6 weeks in front of her, followed by PT, but hopefully she won't be aching all the time once it heals

Have a nice morning everyone~~

Ugh Ugh Ugh Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Last year I had ants invade my kitchen. A trip by Orkin made short work of them, but they were extremely annoying. They decided at that time to congregate around and in my sink.

The Orkin Man - his name is Morris, has been servicing my home for many years. I have cats, dogs and used to have birds, and occasionally have had a flea problem. Not for many years though as I've learned to treat the animals. Then there were the field mice who would come in winter.

Orkin Man comes 4 times a year and on demand if I have a problem. He does a home perimeter treatment on the outside and then comes into the home to see if I need any treatment inside. Usually don't need anything inside. When I came back from Hilton Head 2 weeks ago, I noticed 1 or 2 ants on my counter, but knew he would be here on his regular visit early April so I decided to wait.

Earlier this week I noticed they were around the base of my Keurig. Orkin was scheduled for Friday. The Keurig is always unplugged unless I make coffee in it. I sometimes use a french press or a pour over depending on time in the morning, and I also have a Nespresso machine on my coffee bar in the other room. No ants seem to be anywhere else in the house. Anyway, I did not use the Keurig since spotting the ants near it.

I also have granite counter tops in the paradiso granite, which is mostly black with grayish and pinkish swirls, spots etc. Very difficult to see ants on it. But also amazing how much dirt and crumbs can be seen.

Anyway, got treated yesterday and this consists of tiny dabs of a jelly type substance around the seams of my counter along the backsplash plus I asked him to treat the sink also, again dabs along where the sink meets the granite - undermount sink.

Fast forward to this morning. I decided to google ants and 'ants and keurig'. Ugh - the youtube videos were disgusting, but no worries here as the videos showed ants in the water canister and crawling all over the machine. I didn't have that issue. But, still I didn't use the machine. So, just now I get out a couple of screw drivers. If you tend towards squeamish, don't google this. If you use a kuerig and have ants, yes, you should.

Opened up the base of the machine after turning it over on a bed of paper towels on my counter. Don't do this on your counter! Take it outside and do it far from your kitchen if you suspect anything is in your machine.

When I dropped the metal panel on the bottom down, the inside of it was covered in ants!!!!! And of course now they want to scatter!

I grabbed the whole mess trying to hold the paper towels over it and got it out on the table on my deck. Then came in to try and catch and kill what ones were trying to escape on my counter! I'm still in my night clothes and robe and next I will take a shower after I stop going ewww.

The keurig - it's 7-8 years old but it worked perfect prior to today. But I'm still not sure where it's future lies. Most of me wants to toss it in the trash. My economical side wants to clean it and go back to occasional use. But I'm not sure I'll ever enjoy another cup from it.

Judique, DH just put some of that jelly type substance near our bathroom sink, and by some of my plants. It’s the time ants show up here in Cape May as well.

You are right, I don’t think I could ever use the Keurig again. I tossed mine out years ago, I didn’t enjoy the taste of coffee from it.

I am not a fan of Keurig. My work uses those and we get free coffee so I will use it then. I still like the Mr. Coffee type coffee maker.

EWWW to the ants. I would not use that machine again for sure.

@flyingdumbo127 I hope your friend gets the promo from the store. She sounds like a lovely lady.

@lynxstch I hope MR L's daughter feels better each day and the pain eases a bit. I hope she is keeping up with her pains meds and PT will help. Can she use ice on the area?

My update to the real estate drama. I did get the condo I bid on. I signed the P&S yesterday and will drop off a deposit check today. There were lots of offers, 6 finals, and I bid pretty high and most of my free cash is going to the condo. People are bidding high around here for real estate. Condos are crazy for bidding wars because people my age have cash from selling homes. Now, my house sale is a work in progress. I have a provisional offer from a contractor who basically wants to take the existing house and add to it. Wetlands that I never knew about are an issue. The wetlands person said the wetlands start 110 feet from the back of my house. You can build up to 40 feet from the wetlands. So, it should not be an issue. The contractor has a few questions to ask the wetlands people before he proceeds. My agent and my son think it will go forward. I was so upset yesterday that my younger DS called the agent and spoke with him. They both say my house will sell but it seems like forever to me. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers that this moves forward. It will soothe my heart and soul to have my house remodeled by an honest contractor so it doesn't look like where Chris and I lived. And I can have some peace and move onto the condo where I can continue to soothe my heart and soul. My therapist told me to try to do one thing a day for myself. For the past 6 months I have been so busy doing other things I have not been doing for me. It is hard to do for me right now so I need to get the house sold and get moved into the condo.

Have a nice Saturday.

Good morning. Supposed to get warmer today which will be nice after the cold temps this week. I actually put on my winter jacket that I rarely wear due to the cold biting wind.

I have read and caught up but can't remember all I wanted to comment on. Hugs and prayers to those having medical issues.

I had my kitchen redone last year hoping that we would have no more ants. I already have them in the kitchen window. I may get a few ant traps since I do keep the cat's feeder up there and that's where the ants like to hang out.

The renovation still isn't quite done. My grandson started the entry way floor the other day and thank God he did, there must have been a spill in the closet that I never noticed. I did throw out a couple of empty container and never thought much of it when I cleaned out that area, mostly because I managed to spill a half gallon of paint all over the floor. Anyway when he ripped up the ugly vinyl tiles he found a problem. There was a patch of rotted plywood and what looked like mold. I was out with a friend at the time. When I came home to investigate there was definitely an issue. We sprayed it with a ton of mold and mildew remover and that has done the trick. We will need to do some small patchwork there but I hesitate to think what could have been if we missed that. He did work for a company that did mold removal and said that for an area that size we treated it properly and we were really lucky. A new piece of plywood subfloor and the floor should be down today along with the trim work. Then it should just be some paint touch up and we are done. Of course with this done we move on to the next projects. We are replacing some things in the bathroom in July and then my "garage" wall in the fall. That wall is over

years old and in bad shape. It should be an easy project though. New framing, a concrete lip at the base, a new door and then just insulation and siding. We are slowly getting everything done.

I dealt with all these issues this week with an ear infection. I have had issues off and on for the past 6 years for some reason and the ENT I went to just wanted to sell me hearing aids. I know I can't hear well but chronic infections can do that. Thankfully Urgent Care gave me drops and an oral antibiotic and things are much better today. The side of my face was swollen and my jaw hurt it was so bad this time. Now I need to find a primary care doctor, I have been putting it off and a new ENT. My daughter recommended a couple at the hospital she works for. It would mean a little more travel time but I want this issue resolved.

Today is going to be a busy one. I have to run by my swim club to pay my dues for the summer. Hopefully this year I will actually get there. The restrictions with Covid were too much. 90+ heat and a mask was not something I was willing to deal with. Then I have to get my laundry done. We are having an egg filling party at church in preparation for Easter. There is enough candy to fill about 600-700 eggs. I tend to overdo it every year but it is so worth it to see the excitement on the kids faces and the squirrels enjoy it too. Our last hunt before Covid there were 2 squirrels that found the eggs and they were stealing them. After that I have a Volleyball game with my granddaughter and finally get to go home after all that. It will be exciting to see the entry done. It should be by time I get home.

Thought I would share my little squirrel having fun11 (2).JPG

Hope you all have a great day.

Love the squirrel pic with the easter egg, but not too much love lost on all the squirrels in my back yard!

I really sympathize with the ear infection. The pain I felt when I had one in the last few years made me cry and I'm very tolerant to pain. I saw an ENT and got treated plus was sent to an audiologist (I think that's the correct title) and was tested to see what was going on with my left ear and my hearing. It was all determined to be related to the infection and my hearing is just fine right now. But if I feel the least bit of discomfort I'm not walking but running to the doc.

Years ago when I had a bath renovated there was mold in the wall. It was treated but I continuously wonder if it's truly contained. I have the desire to rip open that tiled wall and check it and it will probably happen sooner than later as I'm tired of the tile!

Could you please post the brand name of what your DH is using? Seems a friend has ants also and it will be a strain ($$) to call a professional. I have the name of what Orkin used on my invoice but it looks like it's probably a professional grade poison, and probably not available as packaged for direct sale. Not sure on that. One thing is it works.

Congrats on the condo!

And good luck on getting the house sold. Will keep fingers crossed for you!
