Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Dad is safely home and happy to be so. Thank God his appointment did go well it was just extensive which was no fun. His doctor was pleased. The doctor alleviated a concern Dad had been having but suggested for peace of mind that Dad make an appointment with a related specialist but he (doctor) did not think there was reason to be concerned. Dad goes back in August for a follow up which ought to be much less involved than today. Thank you all for your prayers.

Big hug, Pea :grouphug: Very thankful things are moving along for your DS. Continued prayer for him and always for you, my friend. A hot house does indeed make it harder to sleep! I hope you get more rest tonight. Sometimes what I do in the summer because I don’t like to have the A/C on so close to my bed while I am trying to rest, is turn it on for half an hour beforehand so the room gets cooled off. Anything legal or that requires a lot of paperwork and/or plowing through red tape is always time and energy consuming! Glad you were able to get some further resolution. As an extra hug note, loss is always hard indeed. Much prayer you and your DH continue to feel more at peace when remembering loved ones who have passed and knowing they are still with you in spirit.

A good, promising step indeed, Easyas! Keep us posted on your findings. CA seems to still be on track for June 15th as the date when the mask mandates are dropped. I will absolutely still be staying home for at least a month or two (if not longer because I intend to be super cautious) afterwards but it is indeed so hopeful!

Thinking of you also, AuntieMe3 and Tina as well! I hope we hear from them both sometime soon.

Wishing all of you a good rest of the day.

Glad your Dad had a good Drs appt Mond. I hope he doesn't need a specialist for anything more than his peace of mind!
We got up to 89 degrees, but its cooled down to 87 now. Still cool in here with just the blinds closed and the ceiling fans on. I don't mind the heat, it's the humidity I can't take. Still haven't had to turn the AC on,,but it's just a matter of time. I keep a fan going in our room all the time (ceiling one), and we have a stand fan at the end of the bed near the wall in case I get hot flashes during the night. It's usually turned so it's only directed on me..lol
Off to figure out dinner,,have a nice evening everyone.
I also hope we hear from Tina soon,,it's been way too long!

A few things to get caught up on...

doughnuts - in PA, and OH, we have peace , love, and little donuts. The hippie vibe inside and they make smaller plain cake donuts that you put crazy topping on like m& m’s and PB icing, cherry cheesecake, Oreos and raspberry icing. I’ve also had the Fractured prune ones along the Delaware/Maryland coast. Yumm

food photos. Now that summer is here, we should start doing this again. It motivates me to make some nutisious items for dinner. Today for lunch i had spinach on the bottom, pouch of salmon pieces, blueberries, cashews, and a drizzle of poppyseed dressing. Felt great. Then tommorrow I’ll do something like meatballs and pasta for lunch and feel so tired in the afternoon

Weather so glad to be done with 50 chilly damp days, now in the 80s warm and sunny days. Today was my younger son’s Greek Olympics. Really fun day for teenagers and their parent helpers. Took place in the high school stadium. Kids chose events like sprinting, javelin throw, discus, long jump etc. they paraded into with Olympic music , all dressed in the color of their team - Sparta, Thebes, Corinth, etc. parents wrote down times at event. Beautiful weather and great memories made

Back from out drive to Lancaster. DH got the shorts he wanted, $16 a pair at Haggar. I was looking for a specific pair of pants at Columbia which I was not expecting to find. They are currently on sale online so I wanted to try on another pair for size and look at colors. I'll order online now. Had lunch at CFA and drove home another way. Lots of country and fields up there so a pretty drive.

Our bedroom faces west and has a sliding glass door. Always gets really hot in the afternoon in the summer but usually cools off at night with a fan.

@Pea-n-Me, that salad looked really good.

Maryland just announced a lottery for those of us in the State of MD who have gotten the vaccine
Hmmm, I will need to investigate this. I know DD, even though she lives in DE, is a Maryland state employee and got her shot in MD and is supposed to get $100 through her employment but hasn't heard anything yet.

Thank you, Lynn so much. He has an appointment next Thursday afternoon. I hope you enjoyed your dinner :)

Good to see you posting, Sparkle, I was thinking of you earlier, my friend. Mini donuts that can be custom made sound very tasty. Lol, the hippie name of the place reminded me that years ago I had a Disney shirt with a Mickey head peace sign. So it read “Peace, Love, and Mickey Mouse.” How fun for your son! I don’t remember ever doing anything like that in school.

Glad to read you had a good outing and I hope lunch as well, Carol.

The mail brought for me a belated birthday card which was a nice surprise to get.

Wishing all of you a good, cozy (or cooler if need be) evening!

@Breezy_Carol, enjoyed your pictures! What a lovely family!

@sparkle78, reminds me of Field Day when I was a kid. We always looked forward to them.

Took the GKs to Wal Mart for Tyson dinosaur chicken nuggets. We don't take them to the store very often so it's a big deal for them. They were pretty good until it came time to leave. I did self check out and when I turned to grab the bags, off they went with the grocery cart. They were gone in a flash. I know that they were just trying to help. I headed their direction and off they went out the door. Lou Lou was out at the barrier poles before the crosswalk before I could get to the second set of doors. Fortunately she stopped at the poles. Joe had the sense to stay inside. It will be awhile before I take them out again.

Just a little bit of rain this morning. Weather was nice all afternoon and evening. I sat out on the patio awhile. A little rabbit came by for a visit, just about 3 feet away from me. Then he joined another rabbit. I sat for about 20 minutes just watching them hop around eating grass.

Dinner tonight was roast with mashed potatoes and peas & carrots.

Good morning all. Going to be another hot one..it's 60 outside, inside temp says 77. All fans are going, but may turn the ac on instead shortly. Hubby didn't feel good last nite, temp of 101, he got up at 4 am, 5 min after I did, and the temp is normal. No idea what that was all about, but glad it didn't last long.
Lawn needs mowing again, but it's not going to get done till it cools off a bit. Sister in law came by last nite and got her 14 tomato plants. One of the managers that hubby used to work with is stopping by to get her 14 one of these days..then it will just be our 40 in the greenhouse waiting to go in the garden. IF I decide to plant that many. I just have a feeling it's not going to be a good garden year. No noise from the cicada's yet..the birds were diving into the trees last nite grabbing them as fast as they could eat them, lol
Have a nice morning! Stay cool!

@FlyingDumbo Happy Birthday a bit late.
@AuntieMe3 Happy Anniversary again a bit late.

Some QOTD to answer that I remember being asked as I went through the last few days.

Retirement.
Personally other than social security I have nothing for myself.
DH has his 401K from his previous employer that he was with for 11 years that we rolled over into an IRA and have just let it sit. His pension with the teamsters that his current company that he will have 15 years with in October and has been vested for coming up on either 10 or 12 years (I can't remember if vestment comes after 3 or 5 years with the company) plus his company went on a national level to a 401K as well but since we are still paying off debts other than our house we are not putting any additional in so are just putting in the money the company is doing upfront which is 5% of his salary though it might just be on his base pay (what he makes on a 40 hour week for vacation). I am not sure if locally they are continuing to pay into the pension fund for those who have been with them a while or if it just a case of the money sitting there and compounding the interest.

Good day to you all -

Weekend is here, and it's got lots of chores for me! Majority of my day will be on the road down towards the DE shore at two different jobsite visits. Bad day to go cause I'll be battling shore traffic going down. Oh well, it is what it is. This evening I've got to deliver a dump truck load of sand (well, eldest is doing this for me) and 25 lb.s of seed to the farmer across the street who is going to plant the area we were able to secure a grant for wildflower/pollinator habitat. I'm both exhausted by this process and hopeful it looks good! I've got to finish power washing, do a major weed and mulch project Saturday, plus bush hog about 10 acres of fields. Sunday I need to do some food prep for family coming over for dinner (and straighten up the house!) that evening. I've got a tree & shrub auction I'm going to Sunday afternoon but hope to be home by 5 before my company arrives! I already told my husband I had zero plans for myself outside of my normal mowing chores next weekend - memorial day weekend. I think I'll indulge in a new book or two, it's been a while since I just settled into a doing a little bit of nothing.

No idea what is for dinner this evening. I guess it will be a surprise :confused3

At least it is a beautiful day out, and the weather looks to be good all weekend. Youngest may be home this weekend to go fishing with eldest.
Looked but didn't see any cicadas (or hear -) anywhere yet. Can't complain all in all.

Good morning.

We decided to go out for breakfast this morning. I had a waffle and it was good. Had thought about driving down to the DE beach but decided against it. May go for a hike or bike ride. @easyas123, I thought we might cross paths again. We are going to Middletown tomorrow and will be stopping at the market.

For those who don’t have cicadas. A couple of pictures from the fence at our backyard.

Shells on the fence after they emerge. That is just a small section.

Some of the lovely cicadas.

Wow! I guess it's just a matter of time for us w/ the cicadas!

I told my husband yesterday evening I wanted to walk around the trees to see if we had them yet, he just kept saying oh you'll hear them soon enough!

yuck!!

I may meander up that way next weekend - I'm just swamped with stuff this weekend. I'll be in Galena for the big auction on Sunday though!

Yikes, Kirby! How scary there for a few minutes! Lou Lou definitely should not have raced off like that. So thankful she (and Joe, of course) were okay! I like that you had a visiting rabbit 🐰

Keep cool, Lynn! Prayers your DH continues to feel good today! You please take it easy, too!

Thank you, Sweetpeama.

Whew, sounds like a busy weekend, Easyas! I indeed hope next weekend finds you curled up with a good book or two! 📚

:) Glad you enjoyed a breakfast out, Carol. Grateful, I admit to no cicada trouble here, yuck! I hope you and Easyas do get to meet one day, Lynn, too!

Wishing all of you a good Friday!

going to be cold here today and for the next two days reaching a high of 82.....had to close the windows and wife is still wrapped in a blanket, had to put on a sweater so I could sit in the metal chair we use in the computer room ( padded chairs retain desert heat and computer room is usually too hot for use by noon) So hope to sit outside all day, problem though when cold, it ususually came in on a wind. Going to prune this tree that just loves the heat and hope to trump Carol's great bug photos with some rattlesnake shed skin

Okay. Catching up here. Lovely pictures, and yay for the good news, and boo for the bad news. (Yes, I know that was a pitiful summary.)

But I promised you all some news, so, here we go....

Yesterday, May 20, 2021 was a very special day for me. Not only was it my birthday, but I also received my Awana Citation award. For those not familiar, Awana is a Bible memorization program used by many churches, but not all churches go all the way through the program. Awana really starts in nursery with Puggles, but the main thrust (and the criteria for the Citation Award) is the 3rd to 12th grade programs. I had done Awana a few years as a child/teen, but only completed 2 books/years worth. As I sat as a leader watching the Seniors receive their Citation awards for completing all books from 3rd to 12th grade (along with Bible reading [7th to 12th] and service [9th to 12th] components), I decided to go back and try to earn the Citation award as an adult. So.... when did I begin this endeavor? Well, you could say it started in 3rd grade, when I was a clubber at Awana. You could say it started when I was 3 and began the preschool Cubbies program. (Puggles wasn't a part of Awana at that time.) You could say it started in 11th grade, when I went back to Awana. But it really began in earnest in 2018. Since 2018, I have completed 7 books, plus a few sections from a high school book I ended up finding. I had planed to try to finished by 2021, but that plan was looking daunting, especially when COVID hit. But I had a special motivation to finish this year. One of my friends who's a high school Senior this year, Alyssa, wanted me to finish with her class. And I did!

There's also video, but I don't want to share the link publicly. If you're interested, PM me, I'd be glad to share it with anyone who wants to see it.

And in all your spare time what are you going to do? LOL! Sounds like you are one busy lady. Remember to take a few minutes for yourself every day with all that work!

We have a TON of them..our walnut tree has a huge ring of shells around it. There were hardly any last nite, but a lot more hatched this morning..No sounds from them yet..most of them aren't flying around

Now ..its up to 79, but supposed to be hotter tomorrow and Sunday (only going to 88 today, lol). I hurried and got the lawn mowed,,again,,and man did I mow over a ton of cicadas. I don't think it will lessen their numbers any, but at least I got rid of some of them. I came in and caved, and turned the new ac on for the first time. Want to make sure it works before we need it...and ahhhhh,,it does! Cooling the house down nicely. I have it set to 72 for now,,but tomorrow it may get turned down to 70 or even 68.
Have a nice afternoon all!
