Chickapin Parterre, I am usually wrapped up in a blanket! I hope it warms up for both you and your wife. At the moment here, it's lovely to not be cold.

Congratulations, Allison and a very Happy belated Birthday to you as well! I'm so glad you had an extra special day yesterday. Thank you for sharing the pictures.

Lynn, lol, when I read your question to Easyas of what is she going to do in her spare time, I wondered that as well, but also to you! You both amaze me with your energy to tasks of all natures!

PollyannaMom, bugs in general creep me out! I'm glad you don't have cicadas either!

Have a good afternoon, friends.

Allison.... Congrats that is a huge accomplishment...sounds like a lot of time and hard work!

No Cicadas hear yet but they will come I'm sure.😲

Got quite a bit done today, but the rain chased us in about 2:00pm. Lawn is 2/3rds done.

Hope everyone has a very nice weekend. Do something that celebrates.... YOU!:cheer2:

I was in a Lowe’s (MD), a Target (MD), and a Redners (DE) today sans mask. The Starbucks (DE) I popped into still requesting folks wear them and I’m fine w/ that.
It was so nice. I guesstimate about a third of the people in all the stores didn’t have them on.

@Allison Joy, Congratulations!

Baked brownies with the kids. They don't really care for them too much. I offered to take them to pick up lunch at McDonalds and Lil Joe told me that he wanted to eat our food, that it tasted much better. So they had hot dogs instead.

Our game night group got together tonight and had a good time just being together and playing Left Right Center. We use quarters and DH won the pot tonight. Dinner was sandwiches, chips and dips with macadamia nut cookies for dessert. We all pitch in and bring something that the hostess that evening wants us to bring.

That brings back fond memories of being a little kid. We'd be sent to bed and the adults would settle into some heated bridge games! I remember us kids sneaking out to look thru the upstairs balcony rails to see what all the fuss going on was about!

Up and at it early this AM. Well, not at it yet, but the pups had me up early. Time to get dressed and get serious about getting this day going!

Have a good Saturday everyone -

Good morning everyone. I tried to get on here at 4 am,,then 5 am,,but got the 'disboards can't be reached thing', so I went back to sleep. Got up and stripped and remade the bed, put the sheets in the wash. Put a spiral ham in the oven to bake while it's still cool, so it doesn't heat the house up later. Just made corned beef hash with eggs for breakfast. My sciatica is aching something fierce today, no idea why. It didn't bother me yesterday after mowing the lawn, neither did my knees. No plans for the day that I know of. I wanted to put down the landscape fabric in the garden before I plant tomatoes, but it's going to be just too hot. 88 again today and tomorrow. It was so nice with the AC on yesterday..set it for 74 overnite, but the house never got warmer than that. I opened the windows this morning while it was 60 and coolish out,,just closed them and set the ac for 72 so it will stay cool in here.
Have a great Saturday everyone..do something 'springish' if you can!

Good morning.

Can definitely hear the cicadas this morning. It's a dull hum but I know it will get louder in the next weeks. So many more on the fence and now can be seen flying in the air.

Supposed to be in the low 90s today. Headed to DD's later this morning to sit by the kiddie pool and plan our Finger Lakes trip next week. Will pack a lunch for a picnic. And hit the Amish Market.

Stay cool.

Good Morning everyone,

Kirby, game night sounds like a lot of fun and I must admit brownies do sound quite tasty as well. It took this pandemic for me to understand something my Grandma often said about preferring "good, clean food." She meant food that was made more with love and care instead of perhaps hastily with a lot of grease as some restaurants often use too much of. I absolutely miss being able to dine out with friends but I'd rather eat at home. Lol, of course, it does help that I am the simplest, perhaps also pickiest eater, any of you may ever know so I don't mind at all a lot of the "same old." :)

That's funny, Easyas! I do remember my Grandparents hosting or going to mahjong or other game parties amongst their closer friend circle. Those games could get quite animated!

Lynn, I'm glad you have no plans because maybe that finally means you will take it easy! :)

Carol, a picnic along with trip planning to a lake sounds just lovely! Have fun.

Do or read/watch something springy and fun this weekend indeed! 🌼

You will love, love, love the Finger Lakes!!
We are looking forward to it. I actually went to Ithaca College so am familiar with the area but I haven't been back since 1980. And DD has gone for several long weekends there. She rented the VRBO for us and is planning state parks and wineries. We are staying on the east side of Owasco Lake.

It is hot here today, around 90. We walked early today and took Jasper for his walk before the heat got too much. I am mainly doing some errands and housework. I did my virtual Tai Chi class this morning. I am glad it will be outside next session which begins in late July. I like the in person class with the instructor and other participants. I am still tired from our trip. We got back Friday the 14th and ran around all last weekend, played catch up at work all week, and now trying to play catch up at home. I need a rest.

The Finger Lakes sound really nice. We rented the condo in NH from my coworker again this summer and the whole family is coming up at various times during the week. We will probably go to Santa's Village or Storyland or both. Visiting the theme parks will be a test for our family Disney trip next year. 3 out of the 5 grandkids are a bit on the wild side so it will be interesting. LOL! The other 2 have been to Disney and are pretty well behaved.

Glad we do not have the cicadas. We do have the sounds from the peepers later on in the spring. I don't mind that.

Happy Saturday!

Good afternoon!

We sold the bedframe to DS's old platform bed, for $50. It was only 18 months old, and in great condition. The lady picked it up yesterday, but we missed the foot piece (it was in the kitchen, which is right by the front door...but somehow, we just overlooked it). So, we had to take out to her this morning, so DH and I made a morning out of it. We hit the post office to pick up packages from the week; then drove over past NAS JAX to meet her.

After dropping off the foot piece, we went to the Metro Diner over by NAS JAX, and have decided we just want to go to 'our' Metro Diner from here on out. The service is better at the one closer to us, and this other location, sadly, did not have the shrimp and grits meal for breakfast; I had the biscuits and sausage gravy, hash browns and eggs, DH had the fried chicken benedict with home fries; and none of it was very good at all. :sad1: It took awhile for anyone to take our drink order (in fact, the hostess came and did it after about 15 minutes; we hadn't said anything, she had noticed when seating another table) and our food took a long time to come out; longer than the tables around us, that were sat at the same time, orders taken at the same time (in fact, one person had the same thing as DH) and served by the same server. They had their tickets, were cashed out, and were given refills on their coffees. I had to go ask for coffee refills, ask for our check, and ask to be cashed out; I tried catching her after she was at the other tables, but she would just walk off, so I had to go to the hostess stand to ask for help. IDK what her issue was. DH still tipped her 20%; if I had paid, it would have been less.

Then we went to a used bookstore over in that area; it was huge! :banana:We spent over an hour in there (dying from the heat, as their a/c was varely working or not functioning), and spent almost $100. They had a selection of old and signed books as well; DH got excited over a set of Lord of the Rings, leather bound, in almost mint condition..I think he said 3rd or 4th edition?) but didn't get it. They asked for masks, so we complied; but our masks were soaked with sweat by the time we left.

Came home, then I headed off to Kohls to shop for flip flop type shoes for DS and a pool coverup for me; managed to find both, used my $30 in KC, and spent less than $20 OOP. Stopped in the dollar store to get wrapping paper/bags for DD#2's birthday gifts (as they'll be here for her bday); I don't like to spend a lot on those kind of things. Then a trip to Publix (and now I remember why I HATE shopping on Saturdays) for fresh fruits/veggies, and milk. No masks at anyone of these stores, if vaccinated, which I was ok with; only had a few people not keeping their distance, and a trio of younglings (all less than 5 years old) at the dollar store were running amok and touching everything in their reach (and with some things, into their mouths). :( The parents had zero interest in watching their kids; one of them, maybe 3, made it out the door behind another lady and they didn't even notice. The kid bumped into the lady on the sidewalk, and she brought him back in the store. I was at the register; the cashier who was ringing me out had to stop to go find the parents. The kids were still running around the store when I left. :sad2:

My feet/ankles are sore, from breaking in a new pair of sandals today. I don't think I'll walk tonight, as I've already hit almost 9k steps today already. We're just having spinach salad (with carrots and tomatoes) tonight for dinner, since we had a carb heavy breakfast. Tomorrow, I'm making a sausage and black bean soup with some Soberdough Hatch's chile bread.

Good afternoon

I think I once saw Finger Lakes on an episode of Lakefront Bargain Hunt. I would enjoy a lake vacation for sure. I hope those of you planning such a trip have a blast :)

Sorry it's so hot there, Snowysmom. As I told Lynn, feel free to please send some heat West to me! Santa's Village especially and also Storyland look super cute. I just Googled them both. We have a Santa's Village up in the mountains of Lake Arrowhead. I have not been there since I was a kid! I talked with a friend about this earlier this year and perhaps post plague she and I will go check it out.

Hug, B&B I'm sorry neither your food or service at the Diner were too good. The bookstore though sounds awesome and was why I liked your post! I would so love to go to such a place! Especially extra right now, kiddos should not be putting things in their mouths from a store--yuck!

Good Sunday morning QUACK'ers! Very mild 63 outside, going to at least 85. Calling for cooler and rain tomorrow,,hope so,
we need it.
Cicada's are still emerging, but other than an occasional sound from one or 2, still quiet, which I know is going to change

One of the managers hubby used to work with stopped by before dinner last nite. She brought her son with her (9 years old), I am not used to having a 9 year old who can't sit still for 10 seconds around, lol. He played with the cats, walked around outside looking at bugs. She brought hubby a wood burning set and some wood, said maybe it will start a new hobby for him..lol.

Other than our handyman, the oxygen company guy, and the 2 guys who put in our HVAC system..she's the first 'outside' visitor who's been here in a little over a year. (not counting the stepdaughter and granddaughters visit last week). It was nice to see a 'different' face for a change, lol.

My back is still a little stiff and sore, going back to sleep for an hour or 2.
Have a nice morning all

@chickapin parterre--glad you like snakes, cause I sure don't!!! lol!

Baby starlings are making the loud nature noise here!

Last evening DH and I went to a Murder Mystery dinner right here in Cape May. The other two couples at our table were from out of town, and are frequent visitors to Cape May. Talking to them brought home to me just how lucky we are to live here!

Wednesday is my procedure to fix a “ woman’s “ problem. I am taking things very slowly as my back started hurting last week, and it is feeling better. I do not want to postpone the procedure.

A good friend mentioned she has mailed me a new puzzle or two to keep me occupied during recovery. Looking forward to getting mail!

Best wishes to all for a good Sunday!.

Good morning everyone!
Had a bit of a lie in this morning. Making breakfast while husband & dogs checks his turtle trap. It's already steamy outside!
Today I'm going to a annual fundraiser/yearly auction that I LOVE! Didn't happen last year, so doubly looking forward to it! It's a flower/shrub/tree auction the fire dept. in the little town I used to live in holds. After that my BIL & SIL & niece will be here for dinner. Fresh slasa and pasta salad already made. Need to get the chicken in marinade before I leave.

My nephew graduated from Coast Guard basic on Friday up your way! We haven't in a while, but used to take the ferry once a year over - I'll have to look into that again.

Good luck next week-

^ Wow! Congratulations to your nephew, and thank him for his service!

Every year except the last, we hosted Coast Guard recruits who were in basic training during Thanksgiving and Christmas. We hope this great tradition continues. It’s Operation Fireside, sponsored by Red Cross.

In 2020, we were only able to send cards and baked goods to the base.
