Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

My parents gave us a set of Farberware when we got our first apartment. They had the same set. It’s been good. My mother had the same set so now I have all of hers which is a few steps away if we need to use one of them. (And we have a whole second kitchen there, too!) I think we have our Farberware frying pan in storage because we tended to go with teflon when that came out (aging myself here) with the exception of one huge industrial-type frying pan which we use a lot. A few years back I got some nice teflon frying pans at IKEA, believe it or not! I really like them as they’re heavy, and have held up well. Last week I did buy a teflon industrial type frying pan with intentions of giving it to son’s girlfriend, but I decided it would be best to just keep it here for any of us to use. She made us a chicken dish last week and had to use two frying pans. I think this way, she can get away with using just one. She made us chicken, broccoli and ziti with garlic and oil and omg, was it good! I’ve been craving it ever since. Today, though, we are doing a lasagna. (After seeing that lasagna thread last night.) It’s cooking now and smells really good.

Wow, that is awesome, Sparkle! I am guessing the church has a large campus and the nativities are placed all-around? A very cool idea though and I absolutely think a church ought to have at least one permanent outdoor nativity up during Advent!

Hooray that you got some rest, Easyas123!

Enjoy your lasagna, Pea :)

Dad is safely home, praise God. It rained about ten minutes ago for just a few minutes (he was home already) and may on and off throughout the day. Good day to be in and cozy!

Prayers all of you are warm and well this Monday :)

I forgot to answer the question about the cookware! I think we mostly use an old set of Revere...they have to be at least 30 years old and have held up quite well! But within the past year, my mother bought a deep 3 qt. Rachael Ray pan, from the Create Delicious line, and we both love it! NOTHING sticks to it - when I made the Rice Krispie treats last week, the melted marshmallow just slid right off. If I'd used the Revere pot, I would have had more marshmallow sticking to the pot and it would have been way harder to stir. I'm definitely impressed.

My living room still looks like a toy bomb went off in here. I look at it and it's like...ugh. I can't be bothered right now.

So last night, I started seeing multiple threads on FB about a "vile, racist email" going to all the town's public school email addresses, including students. Apparently at first there was a link to a disturbing photo that in later emails was right there when the recipient opened the email. I've checked about 4 times now and thankfully, Josh didn't get the email (not that he'd see it - I don't even think he knows that Outlook is there). And somewhat thankfully, the disturbing photo wasn't real; the photographer has made a formal statement that it was a special effects photoshoot and the subject of the photo is very much alive and well. The whole situation is horrible enough that the police department is investigating. The public schools' tech support department is claiming that the originating account was hacked and that that student did NOT send the email. So we'll see what happens. There's a full-page article in today's paper about it.

My mom and I and Josh did errands this morning. We dropped off our finished library books - big sign at the entrance to the driveway that says "LIBRARY OPEN BY APPOINTMENT ONLY." Very glad that Josh and I both have enough books to keep us busy for a while. Then we stopped at Home Depot for a few things, then across the parking lot to Costco. We arrived at the last 20 minutes of the senior shopping hour, so I thought for sure I'd be turned away, but my mother insisted that not only could I get in with her, there were other women much younger than me going in and coming out with small children in tow. The lady checking membership cards at the door did say something to Mom, who said, "Yes, I'm a senior, I'm 66." The lady gave her a side-eye look and said, "Okaaaayyy..." and we walked in. I heard her quickly say, "Excuse me, are you a senior?" and I thought she was talking to me, but it was to the man behind us. He said no and she told him he couldn't come in yet, so an argument ensued and he stormed out. But not 2 minutes later, I saw a woman who looked younger than me walk in with a teenage boy, and plenty of younger (looking) women on their own walking around. Just an observation...not really sure why that one man was turned away when there were plenty of young people already shopping :confused3

Then we hit the grocery store. I spent a little time looking at the "cheaters" eyeglasses, and it turns out my SIL was right - I do need them! I can see just fine far away, but anything up close is blurry. I have found that I hold things an arms' length away (and turn it into the light) to see it now. But I've tried cheaters in the past and I thought things were still blurry. SIL told me to try a higher magnification and wouldn't you know it - +1.50 looks like the sweet spot. Next time I go to Target, I plan to spend a little time there trying them on and being absolutely sure that they're going to work. Well, it's good that I made it to 46 with no glasses at all, right? :teeth: Then I got in line at the service desk because my mom gave Josh a lottery ticket for Christmas and he won $10. Of course there was only one lady working, and she was being yelled at by a woman who was waving her sale paper around and demanding a dollar be refunded to her (her cart was empty, so it wasn't something she'd just purchased and rung up incorrectly. It sounded like she was looking for a price adjustment on something she bought a few weeks ago). I must have stood there for a good 10 minutes listening to the crazy lady. If I'd had a dollar in my wallet, I would have given it to her myself.

And then we get home, the newspaper had arrived, and on the front page the headline was about a murder-suicide yesterday of a married couple a few towns over. One of them was the owner of that lovely "soap cottage" where I've very recently purchased handmade masks and the seasonal scented hand sanitizers - in fact, the 3 teacher and bus driver gifts that I haven't been able to give yet, they all include a sanitizer from this store! I'm in absolute shock. She just posted on the store's FB page just a few days ago. I was hoping to get back out there soon to check out a few other items. I know in the end, the store is not the important thing, but it was very popular and she was doing so well with it! It's one of those things where I never even met this lady, but I feel like I knew her. This is horrifically sad.

Here's one bit of something good...on my last trip to Kohl's, I earned $10 Kohl's Cash. Since Josh received that book of Lego Ideas, he wants to make some of the things but he doesn't have enough "regular" (not-in-a-set) Legos. I found a small 123-piece box for $9.99, so I ordered that using the Kohl's Cash. I might save it for Valentine's Day or Easter. It does feel weird to not have our usual Florida vacation planned this year - normally we'd be finalizing everything now and we would have left on February 7th this coming year. Josh does get a 5-day weekend - Friday the 11th through Tuesday the 15th - so maybe we can do some day trips. Pandemic allowing ;) Really hoping that during Josh's week off in April 2022 we can go down to Florida again and visit Epcot and Animal Kingdom!

@apirateslifeforme That is so sad about the owner of your 'soap shop', very sad indeed. So many people get depressed this time of year, and with Covid on top of it,,it's too much for some people.

Which brings me to my sad story for the day, and a plea for prayers for one of our granddaughters (same one who had the 5 seizures in 2 days)..sheapparently has been depressed for awhile, (which we were just informed of about a month ago),and not being able to go to school, church, or see her friends, has apparently made her depression much worse. I just got a FB message from stepdaughter, that she had to be admitted to a place in Hagerstown to be 'treated' this afternoon. We don't know what happened or why,,and I told her she HAS to call her Dad tonite and let us know what is going on. Terrible thoughts are going through our head wondering why a 14 year old has been seeing a therapist for almost a year,,and has now been admitted to a psychiatric hospital. So any and all prayers that you can spare would be appreciated. TIA! Lynn

@lynxstch, prayers said. That is so sad. I hope they can help with her depression.

My excitement for today. I was in the backyard filling the bird feeder and heard a bubbling sound. Where the drainage field for the septic is, we have a sink hole. Water was bubbling up like a spring. I had been using the washing machine. We called our plumber, who we know well. He came out and opened the stand pipe to the septic and we are dangerously close to having it back up into the house There must also be some problem with the tank or drainage field. (I'm a city girl and don't know this stuff.) We have someone coming tomorrow to pump it out. At least it didn't happen with a house full of people.

Really hoping that during Josh's week off in April 2022

good luck! I'm finding SO MANY places are booked up or sold out during the last 6 months of 2021 and first of 2022! It's nuts...I've just booked my folks onto a long cruise for their 50th, one they've been eyeing up for a while, which is in about 2 weeks but obviously can't go anywhere really now. They are doing that next December & January. (I was a travel agent a long time ago, which ended after 9/11) I'm actually on the computer now trying to decide on something / some ideas to present to my husband for his 50th B'day next year as well....he wants to take the kids and make it a family trip, which is fine - but now I've got to work with more than one schedule!

So any and all prayers that you can spare would be appreciated

Said, and done. I'll for sure keep her in my thoughts. I hope your husband gets his phone call and some sense of what is going on.

My excitement for today

Oh geez, what good luck you were out there to catch it! Hope they can get you fixed up in no time!
We had a unknown to us well open up right next to one of our barns a few years ago. It was out of use and we had no idea it was on the property A huge hole right next to the barn! We abandoned it straight away, took a lot of gravel!

Well, I took another walk this afternoon and got a shower, so that is my accomplishment of the day! Joining my folks for a martini and dinner shortly.

Lynxstch - fingers crossed for a healthy outcome.

lynxstch Prayers and thoughts for your DGD and family.
apirateslifeforme How tragic for that shop owner.

I had to work today so I am just chilling out online. At least I have Thurs and Fri off.

Our cookware is Revereware. I bought a set when I got married and we still use it. It is in fantastic shape. I have added new pots and pans to the mix but those are my favorites. I lost a couple of the pot covers though.

It is 45 here today so walking was really nice. Tomorrow it is supposed to be around 32 so time to bundle up a bit more.

Trying to plan a family vacation is difficult. We had one planned for 2020 at WDW which of course did not happen. We are now talking about 2022. It looks like we better get planning. DH and I are going to WDW in May and Nov 2021 as well as our usual North Conway trip in Oct. DH just last night asked if we could rent the condo in Bretton Woods again and have the family up. It is nice to have something to look forward to even if it is a while away.

Have a good evening everyone.

I finished watching The Christmas Secret and the kids made the movie for me as did their Great Grandma Betty, I really liked her. I admit to not getting completely into the other characters but did enjoy, thank you Carol for the recommendation.

It sure has been cold and rainy here today! Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer, I sure hope.

Prayers for each of you to be warm, cozy, and well always :)

I think right now planning anything is so hard! I do admire those of you able and wanting to plan ahead for vacations. Definitely a positive thing to do! I'm keeping in prayer being able to go as I would have last year to Kohl's by the end of next year or for sure early 2022. One step at a time for which I give God thanks for them all.

Love seeing all the nativity sets. My grandma had one that I loved but it was lost(or someone took it and didn't tell us) after she passed away. I guess when I was younger I would always steal baby Jesus. So if they noticed him missing they'd come looking for me and I would be holding him in my hands. I don't have a whole set but I do have this little decoration my (other)grandma gave us our first Christmas after we married. I just think it's so cute. 546574

I read this as “helped my mom take a nap.”
 My mom doesn't need any help with napping. LOL She's the type of person that could fall asleep instantly when she's tired. LOL We laugh because she says she's only been that way since her aneurysm but she's always been that way. LOL

We had thunder and lightning later last night along with some rain.
Some family members who live down in LA area lost power last night too. One posted video on Facebook of the thunder and lightening. We had some rain last night and today but nothing major, it is snowing in the mountains near us but I don't think we'll get any this storm.

I spent a little time looking at the "cheaters" eyeglasses, and it turns out my SIL was right - I do need them!
When I got mine I was the same way....I was like WOAH!! I can see. Now I'm constantly looking for my glasses...haha

Sad to hear about the tragedy with the soap lady. :(

@lynxstch saying some prayers for your grand daughter. I hope she gets the help she needs...poor thing.

@Breezy_Carol Ugh....septics are a pain but like you said at least it didn't back up into the house. We need to get ours pumped soon....its been awhile. My parents put off doing theirs and it backed up into their secondary "leech" pit, which i guess is just for overflow and can't be pumped out...so they needed a whole new leech pit dug and it was not cheap.

We had pizza for dinner but I really wanted tacos so I'm definitely making that tomorrow. Like I said above its was cold and rainy today. I need to go get dog food and make a return to Target but didn't want to go out in the rain so I'll do it tomorrow.

I am soo tired. I don't know if it's still from the Covid or what but I could've just stayed in bed and sleep all day if I didn't force myself out this morning.

@Pea-n-Me, so glad that you didn't have any side effects to your first dose. I'm curious to see if you do for the second. I doubt I will be eligible for quite a while. Your husband sounds like me except going down stairs is my issue.

@flyingdumbo127, the Peppermint Chocolate Chip Bundtlet wasn't as good as I hoped. It was a thumbs down for all of us. Thought I would try it since it was a special flavor for the holidays. Was chocolate cake with chocolate chips and tiny peppermint chips dispersed through the cake. I'm sure that it was a popular flavor, just not for us.

Thank you for your replies about the cookware you use. I still have a couple of pieces of my Revereware from when we got married forty years ago. And I have one of my mom's Revereware small sauce pans. I love to cook with it. @AuntieMe3, thank you for the link at Costco. I will have to see if they still have them. I especially liked the saucepans with a spout with lids with drain holes. I have a T-Fall 3 quart pot like that and don't know what I did all those years without it. I picked up a couple of Farberware skillets with the copper ceramic inside at Target to try them out. One thing I can't get are heavy pots and pans. My hands don't have the strength to hold them very long so that limits me.

@lynxstch, so sorry to hear about your DGD. Will keep her in my prayers, family also.

Talking about future trips, we have one for WDW tentatively planned for either spring break or Thanksgiving week 2024. Grandkids will be ages 6 and 8, good ages to go. We also have a family reunion planned for 2022 in Asheboro, NC., hope we get to have it.

DGS came home today. I am so happy to have him back home!

Prayers said for some of the tough issues shared here today. :grouphug:

Speaking of cookware. Let’s talk about flatware, too! I have an Oneida set we got in the 80s, I think (at Jordan Marsh before it became Macy’s). I’ve thought about getting a new set as some of the pieces have disappeared, but decided to stick with it. I’ve gotten replacement pieces on EBay for reasonable prices. Well I noticed we’re getting low on teaspoons again (where they’re disappearing to I have no idea!) so I priced them up yesterday. Some sellers want $25 for ONE teaspoon! :scared1: You have got to be kidding me! I’m hoping it’s maybe because demand was higher during the holidays, so I’ll wait a couple of months and check again, but damn! I’ve looked at Bed, Bath and Beyond but worry I might be in the same boat down the road if they go out of business. IKEA had some, too, but I couldn’t bite the bullet. I love the set I have now, the only problem being replacement.
What does everyone else have? (QOTD)

The lasagna came out pretty good! DS had had lasagna at his girlfriend’s yesterday, and she gave him some for lunch today, unbeknownst to me, and we had it for dinner, but he didn’t complain! (We froze half of it for later.) We had bought some frozen raw shrimp for the holiday but forgot to do it up, so we cooked it tonight, as well, and it was delish just with cocktail sauce!

@Pea-n-Me you dinner looks delicious. My sister makes a really good lasagna and I've been craving it. I've never made it before but I think I need to ask her for the recipe and give it a try.

Our flatware is from Costco(surprise, surprise...we get everything there.) I think it was Mikasa brand but it was years ago so I don't even remember the pattern or anything like that. We bought two sets for the eventual missing pieces (where do those things go??) but I ended up giving the other set to my parents. Over the years we have lost almost all our small forks so I ended up buying a pack of these https://www.costco.com/tramontina-p...stainless-steel,-36-ct.product.100629975.html
....to replace the ones we lost.

Good morning everyone. Nothing new to report here, maybe later when stepdaughter calls. She texted me that she had gotten home okay, but that she was exhausted. She said that our granddaughter has been very depressed for awhile (which I knew after she told me about 2 months ago that she had been going to see a therapist 3x a week), and that she was thinking about hurting herself, and that she made the decision herself to go to the hospital. (at least at 14 she had enough courage to know she needed help?). We have no idea how long she has to stay,or if she can have any communication with anyone at home yet.

Its a balmy 35 degrees which they say will be our high for the day. I just went out to feed the outside cats and it started snowing pretty hard, but I think it's just a passing snow shower, at least it better be!

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning, All!
Been keeping myself bee like busy and hopefully it will all pay off by the end of the week.
Much to speak of but little time to write so I’ll get back to youse soonest I can.
Off to Citarella to buy fish and other last minute ingredients.
Wild horses couldn't make me enter that store on NYE during current times,LOL.
It opens at 8:00 AM and I want to be one of the first ones at the door before the fishmongers get cranky.

Until later

Thank you. I don’t make it a lot. I’m not a huge fan of ricotta cheese, and my sisters in law always make the lasagna. At home I do sometimes buy frozen manicotti or shells and add my own sauce because DD loves those. But I got the urge to try this recipe that @Frozen Canuck posted and I liked the way it came out. Next time we might use egg noodles instead of lasagna noodles.

Those are nice! I wish we had a Costco here, we don’t. 😬

Cookware and flatware are both a mish-mash here.

Hugs @lynxstch about your DGD. I agree it was very mature of her to reach out for help, and I think that's a good sign.

So many teens struggle nowadays. The world they have to try and fit into is just so much more complex than when most of us were kids, and they have so much less privacy to make mistakes in. It's a lot of pressure.

Good morning.

Septic has been pumped. Next DH is going to look into someone to check out the cause of the problem

I had an appointment with my new PCP this morning for a BP check. That seems better with new Rx. I talked to her about anxiety and asked about seeing someone to talk to. We discussed and she is trying me on a new Rx so we'll see how that goes. She listens to me.

Let’s talk about flatware, too!
Ours is old and plain and I don't knw when or where we got it. I looked at it and the word Northland is on it. I googled and it is a discontinued Oneida pattern. We are missing pieces too. Probably went out in the trash when scraping plates over many years.

I am going to make another post with pictures of my other nativities.
