What a sad picture, Heidi :( Prayers. Last night and this morning, my Dad said the sky out here looked awful from fires. I faintly this morning may have smelled traces of smoke. So scary and sad especially since it sounds like one of the huge SoCal fires was caused by illegal fireworks use! So wrong in so many ways :(

Prayers all kiddos had a good day today indeed!

Have a good night everyone!

I got one of my favorite catalogs in the mail yesterday, so many fun craft projects. They had a nice variety of Christian themed pumpkins and Halloween crafts. Years ago, my cousins and I would make pilgrim and Indian hats to wear on thanksgiving. I thought it would be hilarious to mail them all the turkey tail belts to wear during our Zoom/FaceTime one this year

Living on the Eastern Shore of MD, I'm fortunate to - at times- be in the midst of some serious history. A few years ago a new Harriet Tubman center was built in the Cambridge, MD area and it's a wonderful place to visit, very thought provoking. I first visited it a few years ago, and it's both sobering and inspiring.

Anyway, I had read on various local news sites that these ladies were undertaking this walk, and yesterday on my way home from an appointment I passed them walking in Northern MD, almost to DE. It was a pretty cool and unexpected sight!

So, if anyone is in between Middletown, DE & Kennett Square, PA today or tomorrow, or Thursday watch for them!

We've been fighting our yard/lawn. The grass has been growing like crazy and is super clumpy no matter when/how often or what we mow it with. So we are at the point of mowing twice a week, BUT it has had the desired effect and we are getting a handle on it. My husband also has a lawn sweeper - yeah, he's starting to morph into "that guy" as he nears 50:idea: haha!

Sauteed chicken with spinach and roasted cherry tomatoes for dinner this evening - OR grilled chicken over salad. Either way, I took some chicken out of the freezer. I'm determined to get back on a proper dinner schedule now that we are headed into the second week of September.

Add me to the list of those looking forward to hearing about Josh's first day! Well - I suspect Josh made out just fine, so in reality I'm looking forward to hearing how his Mother's first day was:flower1:

We were thinking about driving down to Cape Henlopen today or Friday but the weather is not cooperating. No other plans. Maybe go to the Hallmark Store. Have 3 family birthdays upcoming and need sympathy cards.

We need to get there.

I have read about that too.

We have heavy clumpy grass too, and a lawn sweeper, but nowhere to dump the grass and not going to bag it.

I have chicken, spinach, and cherry tomatoes. I may need to google a recipe. Sounds good.

@Kirby They get snow there, also a lot wind. Pretty state in its own way. Are you in Tx? I lived there a long time ago for a few years, went to HS in Richardson. Small world, isn't it?
I do live in Texas, grew up in Dallas and now live just east of the Metroplex. It is a small world.

That would be fun!

My family used to travel every year to Rockville, MD where my aunt and uncle lived. We always enjoyed visiting them there. One year we all (aunts, uncles, cousins) went to Rehoboth Beach, DE and stayed in a big beach house. That was a real treat!

Love the Christian candy corn, Sparkle! When I would do trunk or treat, I'd always get some type of Christian Fall sticker to hand out along with candy from Oriental Trading. Through tomorrow, free shipping on any order at OT, CE201358

apirateslifeforme, truly praying Josh had fun yesterday and that learning at home goes great today, too.

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

@Caseheidi, that hurts my heart to see those photos. Please take care and I hope and pray that they are taken care of very soon.

Signing on for a quick post while we have a break in the online learning - we have to be back on for reading in a few minutes. Josh had a very good day at school yesterday! He really enjoyed it! I think he mostly enjoyed getting out of the house with other kids for a day. And his pants were dry when he got off the bus! No accidents all day!

The only thing that had us a bit upset was that dismissal was at 3:15/3:20, but he didn't get home until well after 4! And we only live 10 minutes from the school! DH actually called and was told that the last bus had just left at 4 p.m. We do understand that the first couple of weeks, there's a lot of chaos and confusion and they need to make sure that every child is accounted for and put on the correct bus, but we were getting very scared. And then anyway, when the bus pulled up, I could see him sitting there leaning against the window, in his own little world...I had to motion to him to get off, the bus driver was telling him "Joshua, you're home, come on buddy..."

I'm also finding that I'm not receiving emails until the following day. I last checked my email at 10 last night and there was nothing. This morning, though, there was a long email from the teacher, time stamped at 6 p.m. last night, as well as a good-luck message from the director of his preschool at 5:50. The one from his new teacher also included an assignment that he needed to do this morning, so we had to quickly do it before the morning meeting at 8:45 (we managed...he just needed to make a drawing). I'm not sure why this is happening. I have Yahoo email and I've never noticed this happening before.

But we've done well so far this morning with our online meetings...and he has soccer practice later this evening! Short notice but at least that's finally happening!

Big hugs to you and Josh and praise God! I am thrilled to read your message, apirateslifeforme. I am so sorry about the bus scare! In this day and age of cell phones you should have been notified of the delay!

Yahoo Email I sometimes wonder whether I am getting all my messages! Up until last year I had only had roadrunner email accounts. Two of them. I had issues with both of them so decided to try Yahoo again. Looking back I should have made a new roadrunner! It takes forever first of all to notify everyone of a new email. Then should you receive any store offers like CVS for example by email you also have to often call their customer service and get someone who will update your info and then and there. I mentioned CVS because I still over a year later don't get email offer from them. It doesn't matter since I of course don't go there right now. My best email advice is should you be thinking about making a new email change over one or two things, try it for a week or so and then change over the others. Years ago I did get rid of Yahoo email due to issues with them.

Anyway, hooray Josh gets to play soccer this evening. I hope he enjoys it. Prayers you are feeling a sense of relief, my friend :)

Love the picture of the snow. It probably won't be around long but is pretty while it is on the ground. It makes me want snow on the ground just to look at and enjoy the beauty. Ask me again in January and I am sure I will be done with it. :sunny: I am now done with the warm weather so eager for Fall to begin.

It is nice that Josh had a good day at school. The first few days are always a bit hectic and things need to get organized a bit. I hope the email issue gets better.

It is so sad about the wild fires. It is so destructive. Hoping for the fires to be under control soon.

We are still working on cookout leftovers for supper. I have said this is my last night of the leftovers. DH can continue to have them. I will pass. He makes way too much on the grill as we only grill a few times a year. He wants to get the most out of it.

Many prayers for any of the DIS family in the area of the fires. I hope they get contained and under control very soon.

@apirateslifeforme So glad to hear that Josh had a great first day. Bus issues may continue for a week or 2 until everyone gets things straightened out. Just glad that they are making sure all kids are accounted for and on correct busses before leaving to take them home. I had to laugh picturing Josh in his own little world, not realizing he was home until the bus driver called to him. Maybe he was thinking of the great day he had! (also glad to hear that he was 'dry'!)

Another sunny 85 degree day here, they say rain tonite and tomorrow, then a cool down. I am so ready for a little bit of cool weather, it's been a long hot summer, not as hot as some of you have had, but more than we are used to here!

We had crabcakes last nite for dinner (leftover for tonite) and it was the largest jumbo lump crab that I have ever gotten around here. We have a place that gets restaurant supply place leftovers and sells it at a great discount. When covid started, they were getting tons of unbelievable deals. They knew restaurants would be closed for awhile, and they were trying to get rid of all the food before it went bad. this store has been getting some really good stuff lately! I only paid $11 for the 1 lb container of crab meat :)!
. I was talking to the owner and she quietly told me that yesterday they got in a case of Ruth Chris Steakhouse steaks -they kept those for themselves (don't blame them at bit!), and that they had paid $40 for the entire case of them!

Have a great afternoon everyone!

Hug and lol Snowysmom. I would enjoy experiencing a white Christmas just once from the warmth and safety of a cozy cabin or lodge. I would not want to live in snow! Remember, I am a CA gal.

Lynxstch, I pray Josh was thinking of the great day he had. Love how you said that. Glad you got a good deal! :)

Yuck, time of month came extra early :P I think only once in years past was it ever this early. I do for sure know our bodies know change and when stuff is going on! I'm somehow hoping that it coming early during this plague maybe means sooner than later lol I'll be done with it! I am (I think) too young for that, only in my 40's. No true complaint. Always extra during this plague grateful to God for my health and Dad's as well! Thanks for listening, my friends :)

Chair disappointment. Office Depot now indicates my chair is on back order. We were told on Saturday that the closest location to us (15-20 minutes) had one. They were not able to hold it. Saturday was the last day of the sale so we ordered it online. Dad just found out that what the sales associate meant when she said they had one was that yes they did have one that we could have ordered for in store pick up then it would have been held. When we chose home delivery on the chair it went to the general warehouse system which totally makes sense just not what we were told. The store manager has been very kind and assured Dad the chair is still very popular and it should not take 3 or 4 weeks to come more like 1 week. He also said he'd give us an in store discount on something another time. Truly nice! I'll keep all of you kind friends posted :)

Hubby and I are on our way home from San Francisco, we had to drive up Monday afternoon because they needed Hubby on the job Tuesday. He looked into flights to fly up in the morning and then fly home in the evening and they were close to $1000....crazy...so since I had Tues off and today is a regular day off for me, I drove with him. He should be done there for a little while but that's what he thought last week. He'll be working in Los Angeles next so that will be nice for him to come home every night for a few months.

Seems like the whole state is on fire....there has been smoke the whole drive....almost 500 miles. San Francisco looked like the pics @Caseheidi shared. Smoke from the fire closest to us is making it all the way Las Vegas, about 200 miles. Its so bad.

I'll be back later to catch up...
