I just finished The Boston Girl by Anita Diamant
It was a fun read about a Jewish girl growing up in Boston in 1918 thru 1936 and beyond. I also like The Red Tent by Diamant. I read it years ago about the woman in the Old Testament of the Bible. How there daily lives probably were

Now I just started America’s First Daughter by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie
A historical fiction book based on letters of Thomas Jefferson. It it told through the eyes of his daughter Patsy and is very easy to read. Although it is over 500 pages long.

Question of the day: 5/3: Whatcha reading?

I know I have asked this question not too long ago but figured people were picking up something else to read now. I'm going to need ideas to load on the kindle when we are up north at Grandma's house. I'm reading the Book Woman of Troublesome Creek and I'm really enjoying it. Very easy and interesting and engaging.

Nothing of importance, just trashy romance and true crime novels. Running through Nora Roberts Inn Boonsboro series, alongside several Ann Rule and Don W Weber books.

With all the food I got yesterday in my delivery order, what did we do for dinner? Ordered in pizza from our local pizza place. :rotfl2: DH said "do you want to cook?" and I said "no"...don't ask if you might not get the answer you are looking for.... :cool1:

:lovestruc Oh again what a wonderful Sunday! My BFF and I hatched a little plan to reach out to some of the widowed and single women we know. I made them an elegant little dinner for 1 because I know they find cooking for themselves to have little appeal. We went together to deliver them and boy, am I glad we did. They are all so lonely and this small gesture and a little safely-social-distanced visit meant so much to them. I'm just thankful for the entire experience. :goodvibes

Right now I'm almost finished a short novel called The Hedge Knight, set in the world of Westeros a hundred years before Game of Thrones. It's so freakin' good it's almost enough to make me forgive George RR Martin for tanking the end of the original series. Almost, but not quite.

@flyingdumbo127 I think the Hallmark Channel is still showing holiday movies on Thursday evenings. I enjoy them too! 🎄

@lovemygoofy Thank you so much for the Madison Reed link. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do with my hair, but I am so glad to have a nice option.:goodvibes

I haven't been reading much lately, but I have been enjoying memorizing little poems. It's fun for me.

I'm planning a Costco trip on Tues. I turned 60 last year so I'm going to try the senior hours. Will have my mask on.

Today I am thankful for:
Online church
All the pretty signs of spring we see when we take a walk around our complex.

Reading--nothing, I have too much to do between inside the house work and yard work-lol! Garden still needs to be tilled again, if it ever stops raining long enough. At this rate it might get planted by the end of May ( which feels way late for me). Yesterday (Sunday) was partly cloudy, partly sunny, temp was almost 70. It's going to be 61 and sunny today, then more rain tomorrow. So today will be lawn mowing day. And I still have to weed and mulch 3 flower beds! I haven't had time to catch up on missed tv shows, never mind pick up a book lately :(

I was grateful that we were able to go and get some flowers for my pots and stuff. Even though almart was very busy, people standing way too close to each other in lines, some people not wearing masks??? Yikes I zipped down to the garden shop, got the few plants I wanted there, went thru U Scan and got out of there. Stopped at Lowes (busy but not packed, people all wearing masks), and got wave petunias, sweet potato vines, and some kentucky pole bean seeds (hubby decided I should plant some)
Grateful that I had put a whole seasoned chicken in the crockpot and dinner was about ready when we got home
Grateful that the temps are finally starting to feel like Spring, all we need now is to stop the April showers, since it's May!

I needed a little fluff, so I'm re-reading the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy. After that I've got a book called Lions of Kandahar that my son recommended .
Yesterday was beautiful here! We got the porch furniture out of the barn and cleaned off, and some other yard work done, which I'm glad is finished!

I'm just having a bad day today. It was so beautiful out - maybe even a bit *too* warm for me. It just took us forever to get outside...by the time we got ourselves straightened out, it was after lunch.

I was feeling a little like that yesterday too. It's almost like the nice weather is too much pressure.

I go upstairs to find that they've torn his bed apart AGAIN. Every. Single. Night. And DH NEVER puts it back together.

I hear you there too. Sometimes, they think they're doing something helpful, without realizing they're just creating more work at a different time. (Cooking especially comes to mind!)

I put this book on my list, then I found it on sale a few nights ago for 99 cents. He then posted the very next day about the sale! I like the book because he set it in a fictionalized version of the next town over, and he slightly changed the names of actual places - it's fun to figure out where everything is!

That does sound fun!

I did not know that.

I didn't either!

Pollyanna Mom, is Hallmark Channel still showing Christmas movies? I remember there was a weekend recently where they did that which was a lot of fun. I'd love to know when the next Christmas in Spring might be :) Thank you!

Hallmark Movies & Mysteries does one on Thursdays at 9:00, and Hallmark Channel proper on Fridays at 8:00.

DGD has gone to visit her mother for a few days; makes me a bit nervous since I don't know how well she follows the shutdown regulations but the man has a doctor's appointment later this week and will be tested again.
One less mouth to feed and please so we'll splurged on dishes we prefer for a bit.

Last night's dinner was a Gruyere cheese and ramp omelette. I ordered the ramps online and the quality is fantastic. Very fresh with a garlicky taste and bright color. Also made a type of Greek wedding soup with them so we had a bowl of that too. Apparently we are all ramped up, LOL.

For dessert we had a grapefruit and orange supreme with crushed pistachios. Very refreshing and nice to step away from nightly cake.

Decided to re-read Tolstoy's "War and Peace". It's an actual hardcover book that's been sitting in my mother's home for decades and still smells like her when I turn the pages. Elder sister and I are pseudo fighting about who read it first thus who does it belong to. GL with that, sister mine, LOL.
The first time I read it I was in 4th grade then again in 7th. Always more insight at the different ages; wonder how I'll see it at this time in life.

I fell behind. My allergies are kicking my booty...and I may be going back to work soon so I'm a little stressed about that. I'm not worried about working and the virus, I'm just ready to NOT go to work anymore as this time off has confirmed. :rolleyes1 I mean I've been bored but thats because I want to hang out with our friends, go to lunchs and dinners, go out shopping...etc. I've been at my job for 25(?) years and I'm just tired. LOL Hubby said by the end of the year I should quit as he'll be doing some international work travel again next year🤞 and I'll be able to go with him if I'm not working. But I have guilt issues leaving my boss and will probably just stay until she retires in a couple years. Anyway....I've been reading but stressing so I fell behind so thanks for vent and I'll be catching up now.

Question of the day: 5/2: What's a comfort meal?

What is something you cook, buy or make when you want comfort? Reminds you of home or positive time in your life?
I'm a emotional eater so any food is comfort. As I'm sure I've mentioned many times on this post...I love tacos and will always choose tacos over any other food. Sometimes they are too much for me to put together when I need the comfort so I'll do nachos or chips and salsa.

My mom made the best tacos before her aneurysm but she physically can't do it anymore. My dad has learned to make them really well but they just aren't the same. I miss my mom's tacos.

Question of the day: 5/3: Whatcha reading?
Nothing....I just read news articles and that's it. I just can't get into a book right now. I even tried to reread the Harry Potter series which I love and I just can't do it. Too much in my head right now I think.

I just finished the latest Kathy Reichs, A Conspiracy of Bones. It was meh. I usually like the bones series much more but this one did not do it for me. Doesnt help that she wont publish her books on the Kindle app and the ePub app is SUPER buggy. It kept crashing and losing my place. Hard to stay in the story when you are constantly taking note of what page you are on.

Anyway, on my Kindle app right now is: The Roman Empire and the Silk Routes, Funny You Dont Look Autistic, S*it My Dad Says, Kingdom Keepers, The Day the World Came to Town, The Club King, Bloodsworth (the true story of the first death row inmate exonerated by DNA evidence), Evidence of Love, Bitter Blood, Cut and Run and the Handmaid's Tale. As you can see I tend towards non Fiction. I'm not terribly excited for any of these so if anyone has read something and can tell me to jump right in or pass, I'd appreciate it.

I am going to be behind on tonite's question. I have been doing yard work all day long by myself. Weeded and mulched all the flower beds, planted some perennials, mowed the whole lawn, then weedwacked and blew everything clean with the leaf blower. Also did laundry, and I am ready for a hot bath, some tv and bed. Have a nice evening all, I will be back in the morning to see the question and responses and add my 2 cents worth, lol!

Hi All!
It's been busy day here trying to work outside before it cools down for the week. My allergies are paying the price for being outside with allergy headache now. My Matt takes his last test Thursday and wraps up and will be done. I still don't have a gift for him and we are going up to Michigan after this to stay with his grandma for a few days. I had a long day with my mom and her anxiety. I am hoping that going for her treatment on Thursday will help her settle down. She hasn't had treatment in over 2 months but the doctor thinks she needs one to help boost her up. I support it and hope it can ease her worry about getting sick.

Dinner tonight was a Costco kit of gyro meat I cooked up in skillet with some onions and peppers, warmed up some pita bread, and made some homemade tzatziki sauce, sweet potato fries and green beans. The gryo kit was really good! I'm always worried buying those kinds of pre cooked meats but I would do it again.

Gratitude today:

1. My mom's medical team. They all understand my mom and know she is "high functioning" but very dependent on someone else.
We talk about once a month or so, which helps me know what's going on in her medical files.
2. Costco gyro kit. I love Greek food and the one we usually go to isn't open and this satisifed the craving until we get back there.
3. It's May. Spring almost summer and hopefully pretty weather and ways to visit without being too close together.

Peace and good health to all.

Question of the day: 5/4: May the 4th be with you...are you a star wars fan? Have a favorite movie?

So I have seen all the movies and can even sort of speak about the movies but not really. I do understand what's going on though!
My Matt big fan of the movies and we have lot Star Wars goodies like the potato heads and of course Darth Mickey helmet.

When I got married we bought a house 8 months later, my in-laws showed up with 8 huge Rubbermaid bins full of Star Wars toys and models. Many still in original boxes. Aka. Retirement plan. Then 5 months later our first son was born and named ...... Luke. We recently started running the Star Wars races did the 5 K and then 10K last year.

Many continuing prayers Tina, for your Mom and also congratulations once more to Matt and you as well (accounting :))

I am not a Star Wars fan at all. I am thankful that so many folks on here do enjoy it :)

Today has been sort of sluggish in a way but as always so very Blessed. No complaints other than still no a/c progress :(

I am extra grateful this Monday for:

A nice phone call with my friend Sue who will be 97 in July!
My Dad for mailing out more cards for me to church family and friends.
A surprise later evening Amazon delivery last night that brought a couple books for me and a CD for my Dad.
