Checking in before bedtime.

We had a nice time at the beach. It was only 70 and breezy but still nice. Traffic was as bad as I've ever seen it though.

Got home and fixed ham slice, scrambled eggs, and asparagus for dinner.

Tomorrow is stay home and do chores day - mow the grass, laundry, go spend Kohl's cash.

does Cape Henlopen have a lighthouse on the grounds somewhere?
I think there is one that can be seen from the shore but not on the actual park. Have you been to Turkey Point Lighthouse in North East, MD? You can walk out to it. And one in Havre de Grace too.

Your level of productivity continues to put me to shame!
I agree. Lynn puts me to shame.

She can't get the carcasses off of her car or the windshield.
DH had that problem with his less than year old car. I'll have to ask him how he got them off tomorrow after he wakes up.

Good morning all. There is a really pretty almost full moon out right now..temp is 53 going to at least 83. Glad I got everything done yesterday as my knees were still stiff and sore overnite. This might just be one of my 'do almost nothing days'. I did something to my right hand just before dinner..my middle finger up into the knuckle is aching. Don't remember banging it, must have picked something up wrong. I just put my crafters glove on that hand to see if it helps..so far it feels better. Took 2 Tylenol Arthritis too, just to see if it helps.

@Breezy_Carol..your Friday sounds like my Wed/Thurs were..mow, do laundry, but not go to Kohls. I think I can count on 1 hand the number of times I have ever even been in that store since it opened here. lol Beach sounds lovely, bad traffic does not.

The cicada's stopped making noise very early last nite and as of 5 am are still quiet. Finally I think they are making their exit..and not a moment too soon. I was just looking at my morning glories in the side trellis planters I have,,and the leaves are full of holes. They did a number on the grapes hanging on the arbor, and even hubby's Magnolia, (which we planted about 10 years ago, and it just started really growing this year) has been attacked by them. I have dead leaves on the lilacs, there are some on the Rose of Sharon bushes, etc. Noisy, hungry little buggers they are. I did notice that there have been a lot less bees, and no stink bugs since they made an appearance though,,that is about the only plus I saw since they emerged.

Have a nice morning everyone!

Good morning.

My part of riding the lawn tractor is done. Towels changed. More than half way through the laundry. Bird feeder filled and bird bath rinsed and filled. Time for a little rest. It's getting hot out.

and its getting hot out there fast! I just got a good coat of waterproofing on the front steps, and did our squirrel house number post and sign hubby made down by the end of the driveway. Finished off the gallon so will pick up another one next week and do them again in October. That is the extent of my outdoor activity for now at least.

Is it getting hot out? I need to step outside for a bit of fresh air, your post reminds me I've been sitting at my desk for about 4 hours now!
I can't believe I'm saying this out loud but I was a bit chilly last night!

I need to run a errand in a few minutes or a hour, I'm putting it off a bit which will make it worse for me! I've got to drive to a area that gets a lot of shore traffic of folks headed to Ocean City (Kent Island, MD) and coming back I'll be in the thick of it for several miles. I should stop putting it off and just get by butt in gear :lmao: Maybe I'll reward myself and stop at the Yankee Candle outlet to spend my YC cash as a reward for facing the traffic:rotfl2:

What's everyone got on tap this weekend? I've got mowing and tree planting -40 poplars and 50 Siberian elms - tonight and tomorrow. Sunday we are headed up to Northern De for a spot of shopping and to meet up w/ others for lunch. Going to a Trader Joes for the first time - I know, I need a life.

@easyas123, I do not envy you driving to Kent Island. I was amazed how heavy the traffic in Lewes was on a Thursday.

I was a bit chilly last night!
It really cooled down. Good sleeping weather. Usual for August but unusual for June.

Going to a Trader Joes for the first time - I know, I need a life.
I've never been. When we were in the Fingers Lakes a month ago, I made my first Wegmans visit.

This afternoon plan to go to Kohls to spend Kohls cash, Bird Supply Store where I have a gift card to use, and the grocery store.

No plans tomorrow but DD and family coming for a visit and cook out Sunday

Good Morning and Happy Friday to all :)

It was nice to see Christmas movies on early this morning on HM&M. I watched the last 5 minutes of Christmas in Angel Falls which I loved last year. Nice switch from the current barrage of sitcoms on Hallmark.

Waiting for an Old Navy package to come later. We earned Old Navy Super Cash (similar to Kohl's Cash) on it and have some from a previous purchase as well. It will be valid for one week towards the end of July. I so pray somehow, just maybe, I'll be able to to Old Navy with Dad to use it. If not he will, of course go there or we will shop online. One day I'll go to Kohl's when they're doing cash. Didn't Penney's at one time do something similar just not as often as Kohl's?

Have a great day, friends 🌸

When we were in the Fingers Lakes a month ago, I made my first Wegmans visit.

I loved Wegman's when I lived there!

We are actually supposed to head out that way next week. But DS hurt his knee last night and has an appointment this afternoon to get it checked on. I'm hoping it's nothing serious and we are still good to go.

This morning, I got my oil changed and am doing laundry as I type.

Carol, thank you for the tip on our route to NJ! (For some reason I said 278, but I meant 287 ;) ) I worked out a route on Google Maps using that way and it actually might be slightly quicker than using 95, even though it looks like we're going out of our way. It also changed my CT route so we take 91S to 15S, which is better than 84 IMO (I know there are lots of accidents on 15, but we don't like all the traffic on 84 in the first place. There were many times that we got stuck in traffic for several hours on 84 when we had to go to our fertility clinic in the early mornings.)

Kirby, that is awful for you, DD, and Little Joe. My parents divorced when I was 2 years old and my mother and I came to CT to live with my grandparents. Starting at age 5, I had to spend a month with my father back in Indiana every year. He and my grandmother there was a piece of work (my father never moved out of his parents' house, even when he and my mom were married). They never had a nice word to say about my family. They wouldn't let me wear my own clothes when I was out there because my mom and grandparents were "rich" and it was reflected in my clothes; I had to wear the various garage sale finds that they had for me. I wasn't allowed to play outside without one of them with me, because the neighbors would come over and "steal" me. My father never took the time off to spend with me, so I ended up going to garage sales all day with my grandparents. My father was supposed to fly out to pick me up, and after the month was over, he was supposed to fly back to CT with me, but it was too expensive for him, so I had to fly alone - yes, starting at age 5. He was so freaking cheap...he paid $25 per week child support, not a penny more, and stopped paying promptly when I turned 21 (in fact, his last check arrived with "LAST ONE" written in large letters on the memo line, with little stars all around it), refused to carry medical insurance on me (despite the divorce decree saying it was his responsibility) or to help pay for college, claimed me on his taxes even though he wasn't the custodial parent, put his main bank account in my name so my mother had to pay taxes on his interest...well, I can't say on the DIS what I thought of him (and still do). The last few years I went out there, I only stayed for a week, because that was all I could take of them. The very last time I went was when I was 14, and I will never forget my grandmother telling me, "I got your mother out of my son's life and I will get rid of you, too." A few months later, my father drove out to CT specifically to accuse me of snooping through his bedroom and stealing some of my own toys (supposedly my grandmother had found me in his room, going through his drawers...a total fabrication). I never spoke to him again. The day before my 31st birthday, in 2005, when I was playing around on the Social Security Death Index on the internet, to see if my grandparents had passed away yet, and I found his name. He'd died 6 months earlier. I did end up talking to his brother on the phone (my uncle - he was the only halfway decent person in that family) to find out what happened, but I can't say I was upset or grieved for him. I went out there in 2006 to visit his grave and honestly...didn't feel a thing. To this day, I say I didn't have a father, because he wasn't one. My "dad" was my grandfather, the one I lived with here in CT. I know this is a long story and it has nothing to do with your situation, I'm sorry :( but you're not alone. I hope that times have changed with parental rights and that there is a legal path for your DD to take.

Lynn, I have done the "preheat oven with stored stuff in it," too! And it wasn't a senior moment for me, I was only in my 20s! I'd bought a loaf of Italian bread at the grocery store and put it in the oven so it wouldn't dry out too quickly. I was making an eggplant parm for my (now-ex) in-laws and I turned the oven on to bake it, forgetting that the bread was in there. After a few minutes, I smelled something funny and the oven was smoking. That's when I remembered the bread - I opened the oven and not thinking, I grabbed it with my bare hands. It was wrapped in paper, which was now completely brown, and I dropped it on the floor. At least it was still salvageable, but yeah, I've done it, too ;)

We finally had a couple of nice weather days here, so I've been at the park/playground around the corner with Josh quite a bit. I learned to take a chair with me, as the one bench there is half buried in the ground and it pitches way forward. Josh gets upset when there are no other kids there, though. He was happy on Wednesday that a daycare van arrived a little after we did, so he played with those kids for an hour or so. He recognized a few kids from his bus, but they were a bit older and one of them seemed to be taunting Josh :( Tonight we're going to a Hartford Yard Goats baseball game for the town little league; we hear that they get to do a parade on the field before the game. My DH is taking next week off from work, so we're trying to plan things to do. Hope we can get tickets for the CT Science Center one day - the last time we went was right before Josh's 2nd birthday, when he met Daniel Tiger! Definitely time for another visit!

To all of you dealing with or having dealt with divorce and child custody issues, I am so sorry. I guess I didn't realize how fortunate I am to have not had to deal with that in any of my or DH's or the kids' in-laws' families. All seem to be pretty long and stable relationships. I remember when DD was playing with a neighbor and wondered why her friend had 8 grandparents and she only had 4. Those parents eventually divorced too and DD's friend has been married and divorced already also.

Regarding all the grocery stores, I really like going to Publix when we are in Florida. And Mona, if you like the name Harris Teeter, you'd probably like Piggly Wiggly.

Big  Apirateslifeforme and thank you for trusting in us to share. I was struck by some similarities sadly between your childhood and my own in terms of clothing and also other so-called family speaking ill of other members, etc. So WRONG. As I said yesterday, there is no excuse period the end for a child to ever be intentionally hurt in any way or put in the middle of an emotional custody battle :( Big hugs for all who have gone through or are currently dealing with this. Extra prayers are with you!

Carol, just by virtue of its name, I have always wanted to go to Piggly Wiggly! Is it a supermarket? :)

Wishing all of you a good afternoon.

@flyingdumbo127 yes Piggly Wiggly is a supermarket. I have only been in once. Never been in a Wegmans or a Harris Teeter or Kroger though. None close enough to us to just 'take a drive to'.

I too was brought up in a single parent home, after my parents were divorced when I was 5. My father literally 'kidnapped' me and wouldn't bring me back. Police had to be called, and that led to my Mom getting sole custody. I rarely saw my father after that,,as he was one of those who would say "I will be there next Sunday to see you', and I would sit on the front steps waiting..and he very rarely ever showed up. His child support was very rarely ever paid, but back then they didn't do anything about it if you didn't pay,or else my Mom couldn't afford a lawyer to get him to do it.

Its gotten hot out there at 85, but the bugs are so quiet now that it's noticeable, lol! I laid on the couch to take a 15 minute nap..and woke up an hour later. Guess I needed it.

Dinner is going to be leftovers and some fruit, and maybe corn

Have a nice evening everyone.

Thanks, Sweetpeama, I'd love to check out Montana. I'm not able to do much traveling so that would be too long a trip.

Flying would be easier than driving though as it is only 2 flights that are 2 hours (LA to Salt Lake) and 1 hour and 25 minutes (Salt Lake to MT) so as long as you don't book a flight with only a 45 minute layover and have to race through the airport it is not too bad. Rule of flying in my book only book one of those short 45 minute layovers if you are just carrying a backpack that can fit under the seat in front of you so you don't have to mess with attempting to get items out of overhead storage and you are in shape so if needed you can grab your backpack and once your off the plane make a run for it. Not to be done with children under the age of 10-12 depending on the child (this is the youngest child in the party you are traveling with) and Never Ever if having to deal with custums. Yes there are people who have attempted that one. If you hapen to hear stories from others or catch a video they are also the ones screaming and carrying on the loudest over I missed my flight. I am sure I would have a hard time keeping my mouth shut and not pointing out that they were the dumbwhit who only scheduled a 45 minute layover when it clearly stated please allow up to 90 minutes to get through customs and then you have to allow time to get your luggage rechecked in many cases. Yes I don't deal with outright stupidly well.

This afternoon, after reading thru these posts, I'm feeling grateful not to be the product of a divorced home or a divorced parent. It all seems terribly difficult and complicated and rough and several additional descriptive words I won't type here. Good luck to all of those navigating those troubled waters.

Welp we are still battling Burgess over $400 worth of merchandise that never showed up, then partially showed up, which we sent back, then more showed up after we canceled the order - trees dead (not dormant) and they told us to toss. Now they are disputing the dispute w/ our credit card company. What a damn pain the butt. They've been completely unhelpful and damn near impossible to get ahold of. Anyway, I hope Chase is able to see our side of it. I'm tired of dealing with this issue, it's been since April!

Anyway, I think we will have fish for dinner this evening. I was able to get out and run my errands, and enjoy some of the warmth! I'm planning on doing so once I get home.

Evidently folks in the (greater) Baltimore area are reporting feeling a 'shaking' news folks trying to decide if it was explosion or earthquake or ??? I missed the earthquake we had about 10 years ago. By miss I mean I was in the house, didn't realize it happened. I would have like to had to the experience (not to make light of the devastation that can occur, obviously) as it is described as a surreal feeling/experience. It was a very minor incident, luckily it's not a real concern in our area.

4:06 PM EST...23 minutes and I'm closing the front door and heading home!
