Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

It is gorgeous outside, except for the cicada noise, which is already getting to a loud level. I started in the garden at 6. Planted 2 kinds of summer squash, 2 kinds of zucchini, and 2 kinds of cucumbers. Then I planted 36 tomato plants, staked them, tied, them and watered them. Garden is DONE! Just have to get all my herb pots out of the greenhouse and put them on my herb box that has shelves, then I will take the cover off the greenhouse, wash it and let it dry, and then take it apart and put it in the box till next season. It served it's purpose well. it's so early that I just might get to mow the lawn today as soon as the grass dries out!

Morning!!

Not much new here. Yesterday DH and I ventured out into the world...went to Kohls to return some Amazon items for him, then to Michael's for some craft things. Popped over to Starbucks (mmm, I spoiled myself with a strawberry funnel cake frap); headed to Guitar Center to see if they had some things DH wanted (they didn't); and then lunch at The Juicy Crab. DH had crawfish, potatoes and corn in lemon butter; and I had a low country boil w/snow crab legs, shrimp (no heads), jalapeno smoked sausage, corn and potatoes in their mix of lemon, cajun and garlic butters; and we shared an order of hush puppies. Dinner was a ribeye and broccoli for DH, DS had fried shrimp, fries and edamame (he didn't go with us and missed out on lunch out; so I brought him his missed lunch and he had that), and I had a salad. I walked 2.75 miles yesterday morning.

Today, DH had to run up to Mayo for a Covid test; he's been vaccinated, but he has an overnight sleep study tomorrow night there, and it's protocol. We stopped at Starbucks again; we each had a double bacon cheese egg (no egg for me) croissant and cold brew coffee (mine with vanilla syrup and vanilla sweet foam). First time he's had a Covid test, and an hour later, his nose is still running...but he said he can breathe out that side better, lol.

I still have to do my walk today, but I had to let the coffee settle for a little bit, so when I'm done here, I'll go. I'm shooting for 3 to 3 1/2 miles today. DH bought me some 'running' towels, so I can wipe my face when I'm out walking, instead of using those blue and white cleaning rags I've been using (I was going to get me some of the towels, but I hadn't just gotten to it yet; and I spent so much on the fitbit and headphones and shoes, that I felt guilty spending any more.) He is very sweet and thoughtful, most of the time; I missed that when he was sick.

We're doing Boboli pizzas for the two of them for lunch (DS will go pepperoni and cheese; DH will do salami, pepperoni, onions, peppers and light cheese, on a cauliflower crust for him), and I shall be having.....a salad. Tomorrow, DS and I are having pasta w/meat sauce and probably focaccia (since I haven't made it in about 3 months, and DS likes it; he likes the rustic everything-but-the seasoned wheat bread more though), and DH is going to eat out tomorrow, since he's going straight from work to the sleep study, so no carbs for me today, and extra walking today, tomorrow and the day after!

I'm hoping to be down a total of 15 lbs by the time I go pick up DD from the airport next Friday (or as DH's family says Friday week)...I'm already halfway there! I'm also hoping to be down another 10 by the time we leave for Disney at the end of the month. 🤞 I told the girls that when I get down to my 'fighting weight', I am getting a new tattoo. That gives me a year to figure what I want.

Anyways, gotta stop putting off the walk and go go go. Have a good day all!

Good Morning Quackers

Thanks to those of you who have served our country and/or your family! God Bless You all 🇺🇸

Still May Gray here right now. I'm glad tomorrow is a new month :)

Clothing size can indeed vary within the identical item no matter the brand! I have learned that over the years. I think Old Navy had the most within size discrepancy. Kohl's definitely did, too. I hope all of you looking for clothing find what you are looking for :)

Hugs to All!

This weather could just stay this way..minus the bugs,,lol Greenhouse is taken apart, cover hanging on line till I wash the dirt off the bottom edges and let it dry. Herbs are on the herb box shelf, and the front and side lawn is mowed. Came in to take a break and then going out to finish. I just want it done so I can relax and do nothing for the next day or so.
We thought that our company left early this morning to beat the traffic, but they went to a friends house for a few hours. Stopped by here to say goodbye and just headed out. They are coming back in 2 weeks and hopefully both of the other granddaughters and his 'other half' will be able to come too. Haven't seen them since we went to OC in 2018. Too long! I finished mowing just before they got here..all nice and neat outside, looks so pretty. We have 3 peony bushes and the flowers are all opening..the smell is drifting on the breeze and it smells so nice!

Had a quiet day here, and did some rainy day organizing. Between yesterday and today, I got the mitten and hat bins converted over to ballcaps and sunscreen, and straightened up the medicine cupboard, hall closet, and what we call the "skinny cupboard" in the kitchen (a mix of craft stuff, kitchen gadget overflow, and household items like lightbulbs and batteries) - the sort of projects I would normally do over April school break but didn't.

Now the only one left on the list is the linen closet upstairs, but that's a whole big project in itself, because besides towels and washcloths, it kind of acts as a bathroom pantry - shampoo, soap, cleaning products, bins of travel stuff... I haven't done it in ages, and it's getting pretty messy, so I'm sure there's stuff in there I don't even know we have (plus I need to pull the rest of the summer beach towels out from way in the back). I'll save that for another day.

DD, GKs and I went to the Dallas Zoo today. The temperature was perfect, high 60's, we had a little rain but not heavy while we were there, The crowds were not bad, we got there right when they opened so had up front parking and some areas all too ourselves. Lil Joe got to feed a Galapagos Tortoise, I imagine he wasn't supposed to but he found a small leave branch and held it out to him. I was visiting some other tortoises when this happened. We also got to see an elephant playing with a log in the water and up front & personal with a couple of gorillas on the other side of a glass wall. Those were the highlights. Then as time wore on the GKs got tired and Lil Joe pitched a doozy of a temper tantrum. DD ended up carrying him out of the zoo. He screamed and hollered in the car and after we had driven a ways, DD had to pull off of the highway and give him a spanking. He finally settled down and slept the rest of the way home.

@lynxstch, your garden sounds as big as our neighbors. They are out of town for a week and we have already harvested tomatoes, yellow squash, zuchinni, black berries and beans. DD is going back over tomorrow to pick the rest of the beans. There is already way more than we can eat so I'm going to contact some friends. I'd gladly share with you if I could.

It's been raining pretty hard since 5:00 pm, thunder and lightening also. We're expecting rain for the next two weeks. Dinner tonight was hamburgers, chip & dip and pork 'n beans.

Good morning all. Going to be another picture perfect weather day here, but I don't plan on doing much of anything. Did way too much yesterday and need the day to rest up. Surprisingly I don't ache and am not stiff,,but I was so tired last night I don't think it took me 2 minutes to fall asleep.

Stepson and granddaughter made it safely home by 7:15,,said traffic going over the Bay Bridge was fine going towards OC, but backed up going out,,people waiting till the last minute to head home I guess.
Going back to bed for an hour or so,,need more sleep

Have a nice morning!

I like Kohl's for the most part. I can get pretty good deals combining their sales with coupons. I haven't been pleased with their plus size clothing though in a couple of years. I bought a Croft and Barrow shirt two weeks ago in the size I normally wear and had to return it, it was too small. So I when I went to return it I tried on some more and wouldn't you know, they were all too small. Something is wrong there because I know I haven't gained weight.
I agree. I have mentioned here before I don’t really shop at Kohl’s anymore as I‘ve found the quality of many of their clothes has gone way down, unfortunately. I used to love to shop there.

I saw DS for about five mins last night. He tried on the suit jacket and it fit like a glove! He loved the navy blue, too. I might just have to have the sleeves hemmed about an inch. He’ll try on the pants today. 🤞🏻It’s his first day off in a long time so he went golfing this morning to relax a bit.

Nice to see you, @apirateslifeforme! Love the teacher gifts, really cute! And cool about the dates!

I worked half the weekend but still got to enjoy a little bit of the holiday. We visited the cemetery, then went out for breakfast. It was wet and cold out, but still a nice day.

Got three meals out of this breakfast (Farmer’s Omelette, all veggies, and sourdough toast)! DH wanted to share the pancakes, I didn’t even try one until this morning! :crowded:

Good morning.

We are safely home. I am on hold for EZPass Maryland. Said average wait time 33 minutes. Also have a chat open and was 105 in line when I started. Now 34 in line. I'll see who answers first. They changed their website and everyone has to revalidate. My account is disabled and I need to access it. What a pain.

We had a really nice trip, in spite of the weather. Arrived Thursday after DH and I made a stop in Ithaca so I could walk around the campus of my alma mater, Ithaca College. Got to the cabin, and after pulled pork for dinner, DD and I went to Wegman's to grocery shop. Friday rained but we made the best of it with the Science Center in Ithaca and the Lucas Vineyard for a tasting.

Saturday we got out of the cabin before 9 am and drove to Watkins Glen, an hour and a half drive. A good thing we went early as parking was already filling up even with the cool drizzly day. The hike was 1 mile uphill with a lot of steps, right next to the gorge. There were lot of places where water was dripping from the rocks so we couldn't tell if it was raining or not. DD had Carter in a backpack and Tessa walked most of the way but DSIL carried her over the biggest puddles. It was a spectacular view. Once at the top, the rim trail was a much easier coming back down to the parking lot, another mile hike. We had packed a lunch to drove to the picnic area of the park and had lunch. We were in two cars because we couldn't all fit in one. After that, DD went to Walmart to get dry socks for Tessa while DH and I went to the Watkins Glen racecourse just to see it. That was pretty cool. We met up at the Fox Run Winery and did a tasting. Then we got a table indoors and had some fancy snacks and shared a bottle of wine. It was very pleasant and my favorite of the wineries we visited. Headed back to the cabin, about an hours drive. DH and I stopped at Wegmans again. We had a cookout on the grill with zucchini and corn on the cob for dinner. Had some of the cupcakes I made for DD's birthday.

Sunday was DD's birthday. A little slower start to the day, which was cold and drizzly again. Drove to Ithaca again to Taughannock Falls. This hike was 2.27 miles round trip to the base of the falls and back but it was flat the whole way. Beautiful falls. Back at the park, we had our picnic lunch and this time had birthday cupcakes and sang to DD. Tessa and her dad went to the play ground while we cleaned up Carter and walked by the lake a little. Then on to the Thirsty Owl vineyard for another tasting. Back to the house. DH and I told DD we would watch the kids and give them dinner so DD and her DH could go out to dinner alone. It is the first time since the pandemic started and Carter was born that they did this. The grandparents' survived giving them pizza for dinner and got Carter to sleep and Tessa ready for bed before they got home. We also gave DD her gift.

Monday we awoke to a sunny warm day, of course it was time to go home. We did go down to the lake for a while before we had to leave. It was great for skipping stones. And we saw an eagle flying. DD left heading for home. They had about 4 cases of wine to fit in their car, two of which were cases friends ordered. We only bought 7 bottles so it was all in one box. We drove by Harriet Tubman's house in Auburn, NY. Now we have to get to the museum in Maryland. Then to the Montezuma Wildlife refuge, which was very nice. Started our drive home and ended up at the Charcoal Pit in Wilmington, a favorite of Joe Biden, for dinner before finally getting home.

I skimmed the pages I missed. The WiFi at the cabin was awful. I'll remember a few things, but sure I forgot some.

@Kirby and @Bianca and Bernard, congrats on weight loss.

@lynxstch, yay for the ebay case being resolved.

My dad thinks we may have a broken pipe but at least it will be easier to see and if needed replace once we have everything pumped out.
I hope you don't need a new drainage field and new tank like we did in January.

We belong to a swim club and I like the convenience.
We did for many years until the kids were in high school. They did swim team and it was great fun.

"Holy, Holy, Holy" is one of my very favorite Hymns
Mine too.

I like Kohl's for the most part.
I do too. I have gotten my last few swim suits there. And luggage. I watch for sales and use coupons.

Someone mentioned USPS, they do not have their act together. I had my mail held but apparently that doesn't include packages as the one I was waiting for was delivered to the house. Luckily my neighbor took it in.

The one in Newark? My brother just sold a car there, said it was a super easy/simple experience.
We sold two cars at that CarMax and one at the one in Fort Myers. All good experiences.

I started in the garden
None of my flower seeds germinated so I may replant.

Well, EZPass chat answered first but didn't respond when I asked my question then the phone call was answered, after 30+ minutes. Tracy said she had to reset my account, send me a new pin, and I had to start over. She supposedly texted it to me but I haven't gotten it yet.>:( I was on the phone 39 minutes and will be peeved if I have to do it again.

On to continue laundry, etc.

Love the trip details, Carol!! I’ve been to Watkins Glen, and just adore it, and the other waterfall trail looks like I should put it on the list too!

The kids were fidgety this morning - “Tuesday-Mondays” are always tough. But we managed to get journal entries and some science work done and we practiced math outside in the nice weather. (I wrote big numbers in chalk scattered around the driveway, then called out math problems, and they had to run to the answers.)

Now I’m home and “walking” the cat.

For once, it's a quiet Tuesday and I get to sit down and watch some Star Trek: The Next Generation. It stopped raining and warmed up as well. Stinks that Memorial Day weekend was such a bust, though.

I can't believe 2 weeks from today is Josh's last day of school. They turn in their iPads next Thursday already! I reminded him this morning that this coming Friday is the last day he'll see his music teacher this year. Next Friday, they are having an outdoor "fun day" - sounds like what we used to call "field day" when I was a kid. Then Monday the 14th and Tuesday the 15th are half-days.

So my SIL is a Color Street (nail strips) consultant and I finally took the plunge yesterday. Now I can't stop admiring my nails! I was skeptical because I keep mine short, but they worked out well! I messaged her for a couple more sets this morning; I think I'm addicted! Please excuse my fat, dry hands...

Mojave Turquoise copy.jpg

Speaking of Kohl's, they sent me a $5 Kohl's Cash for my birthday (next month). I'm sure I can find something to buy with it. I just had quite the saga with an online-only t-shirt for Josh...had to return one because it arrived with a hole in the back, but they don't do exchanges for online items, so I had to reorder it (luckily I had another coupon and I got free shipping, so it cost the same as the first one. Then I waited 3 weeks for it to show up. They claimed it shipped on May 5th, but it didn't actually leave until May 17th. Then it disappeared in the USPS system for a few days before arriving on the 25th.

I pretty much only buy their Sonoma and Croft and Barrow brands for myself. C&B runs small, IMO - I ALWAYS need to go one size up. Sonoma is pretty spot-on for me, though. I think the only other place I buy clothes is at Costco! I like the Jumping Beans stuff for Josh and when I have to give a birthday gift. Our store also sells Carter's brand, but I get better deals at the Carter's store nearby. And DH likes that I can buy Arrow and VanHeusen shirts at Kohl's (and he likes Sonoma stuff, too).

I agree about Kohl’s, Pea. Though what a Blessing it will still be for me to be able to go their one day to look around. Kohl’s is a little closer to me than a JC Penney—though I think Penney’s often has more of a selection+better prices. Yay that your DS liked his new jacket. I’m glad both he and you got to have some time off this weekend :)

Welcome Home, Carol! Sounds like a wonderful trip, thank you for sharing with us :) “Holy, Holy, Holy,” is simple, more traditional, and reverent! Yikes, I’m sorry about your EZPass trouble and hope it gets resolved asap!

LOL to walking the cat, PollyannaMom! You truly are a wonderful teacher. Love how you made math a more active experience for the kids.

Enjoy every minute, Sparkle!

Outdoor Fun Day sounds fun, Apirateslifeforme :)I hope Josh has a great time. I don’t remember ever doing anything like that at school. Like your colorful nails. Croft and Barrow brans (of tops anyway that I remember) were never as soft as Sonoma. I think in years past I did get some pajamas by that brand.

Prices have gone crazy! I was looking on Amazon and Oriental Trading (FYI for the next 2 days OT has free shipping on any order) for possible Father's Day or Summer tableware. I saw one plastic tablecloth on Amazon for $10 or so when at the Dollar Tree the same thing is obviously $1. I'm always glad people are celebrating happy occasions. It's so wrong to especially now during the pandemic make doing crazy expensive and harder to find a deal! Thankfully at Ralph's this morning, Dad did find for $1 each some napkins and plates.

Wishing all of you a great afternoon.

Go @Kirby! :cheer2:

((huggles)) to those who need or want them.

Woke up this morning to find our thermostat wasn't working at all, and the 'emergency heat' kicked on. The complex put in "SmartRent" features earlier in the year, and although I like the convenience, sometimes it is just frustrating. it took until noon to get maintanence here, and come to find out, the float valve? was stuck, which shut off the whole thermostat. Took the maintanence guy about 2 minutes to diagnose it, and about 15 to fix it (including going down to his car to get his shop vac). Well, we can fix it next time, now that we know what it is. Much cooler in here now, 76 instead of 95.... It was actually cooler ( 88 ) outside than inside!

I didn't walk this morning; I am taking a cheat day.

We ordered Chili's for lunch, since I didn't want to cook with the thermostat issue; had 1/2 of a Southern Smokehouse Burger and 1/2 an order of the southwest eggrolls. I'm sort of working on laundry; I have 2 loads of towels and 4 loads of clothes, but I want to wait for it to cool down a bit before I run the dryer; whatever I don't get done today, I'll have to do tomorrow, along with our bedding. I forgot how many loads I have to do with DH working...his work khakis are a load by themselves! I was supposed to return a couple of Amazon orders to Kohls today, but we were busy with the thermostat, and I haven't showered yet (again, waiting for the house to cool, lol), so I'll have to do that tomorrow as well.

I ordered DH three t-shirts from Kohls for father's day, from DS; and 2 shirts for DS. I picked up some new bath sheets at Kohls, Vera Wang brand, that feel so soft and plush; I got 4 of them for less than $60 with coupons/KC, when they are normally $50 each. I have $30 in KC to spend after 6/1, so woot.

I found these new popsicles at the store, and they are pretty darn good. Goodpops We've had the watermelon agave, which are sooo flavorful; and the lemonade cherry 'bomb' pops, which are pretty tart. I have the orange creamsicle ones to try tonight. They are pricey, but man are they good, and very lowcal!
I can't thank you enough for recommending these! These are absolutely delicious, and so lowcal it's crazy! Bought some at Whole Foods yesterday, and went back and got more today! What a wonderful find!

Well I managed to do mostly nothing all day. Other than clean the litterboxes and put new ones down, wash down the greenhouse cover, dry and fold and put it away. I just cleaned the birdbaths and refilled them, and switched out the birdfeeders so I can clean and sterilize them.

Made my grocery list, ordered hubbys meds online at CVS--which makes me ask...on 3 of his scrips..I used a Good RX coupon and a RX Saver ones. If people can use those and save so much money on prescriptions..why oh why do insurance company's charge so much for them? Hubby's Amiodarone..cost us $67 for 3 months when I did them in March. Today I used the RxSaver coupon and it was $23.05. His albuterol, which the insurance co says would be $153, cost me $53 using Good RX. His Anoro came down from $438 to $272. Thats a HUGE savings to us,,and we don't have to use his prescription insurance for them. All of his other meds are no cost as they are maintenance drugs. I called CVS to talk to the pharmacy tech, to give her the codes for them and she said, finally a person who thinks ahead. This way we do it once..otherwise we would do it through insurance..you would come in with the coupon code..we would have to take it out of insurance and put it back through all over again using the code. Saves them, (and me) a lot of time waiting to pick them up.!

Off to fix dinner. Hubby wants leftover rigatoni with hot dogs in it and cheese on top,,I opened a can of Campbells (Franco American) spaghetti and put hot dogs in that. One of my childhood favorite meals (without the mustard my Mom used to add, lol).

@Breezy_Carol..sounds like you had a great trip, except for the weather, and you made the best of it anyhow. Thanks for the trip report!

@apirateslifefor me--glad to see you posting..and hard to believe that school is almost done for the year. All 3 high schools here had graduation last week, and school gets out in 13 more days I think it is! And I too like your nails, very pretty color!

@flyingdumbo127--Mona I have noticed the rise in prices also. I also heard that Ebay is now charging sellers 12 % instead of 10% so I expect to see the price go up on items there too. Grocery store prices have been steadily rising for a few months too :(

Have a nice evening everyone!
