Good morning everyone
I got about 2 hours sleep. Every time I tried to close my eyes, more and more things started going through my mind and I would just get up and walk around the house. I think it was finally 4 when I did fall asleep somewhat and the cats woke me at 6. They are all confused because no one has been here during the day, and at night the house is totally dark. I haven't even turned the tv on in 2 days. I'm getting in the shower now and heading up when visiting hours start at 9.
I have nothing else to report. Will try and post an update later tonight. I don't even have it in my to find a picture for today.

have a good day

Thank all of you for your care and concern. They are doing another CAT scan now. They want to see if there's any masses anywhere else. If there are, they will know exactly what it is. We can't get in until 9 so I'm waiting for Summer to get to my house. I'll update when I can.

Good morning.:sunny:

The weather is so nice for the week. I think the temps are supposed to be high 70's. I should have opened my windows before leaving for work this morning.

Lynxstch - so sorry your family is going through this. Hopefully the scan today will bring hope.

We had a scare last night. As soon as I pulled in the garage my phone was ringing. It was Bailey asking if I can come get Mia b/c she needed to go to the ED. I'm asking a bunch of questions and she said that she thinks she's having a miscarriage and Evan went for a motorcycle ride with his brothers and she can't get in touch with him. I headed down there to pick them both up, already made arrangements for my friend to watch Mia while I go to the ED with Bailey. I almost got to their house and Jacob called saying they were at Evan's and Evan is taking Bailey to the ED and he'll stay at their house with Mia until I get there. I just brought Mia home to my house. They sat in the ED waiting room for 4 hours and finally just left. Bailey said the bleeding stopped by then and she made a dr's appointment for this morning, I'm waiting to hear from them. She is around 9 weeks.

After work tonight I'm hoping to get a pot of chili made and grill some chicken sausages so I have food ready for the rest of the week and the weekend. I'm working night shift Saturday night so I don't want to have to order out.

That's about it for me, have a great day  . Lynxstch - good luck today.

Go, therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Mathhew 28:19-20 NKJV

WE are with you, dear Lynn, too with love.

Fingers crossed it was just spotting and turns out OK

Not much to add that others haven't already expressed.
Footballmouse - fingers crossed your DIL is okay.
Lynn...I'd like to offer something uplifting and helpful. Something inspiring and useful, but there is nothing I can say except I'm sorry Don isn't doing well and I wish there was something we could do to ease the stress of this situation for you.

Good afternoon thread save. Not much new here. I did find out a couple answers this morning which I'm grateful for. I also reached out to a friend for suggestions. I would still appreciate extra prayers. Not a fun situation.

Lynn, I sure am sending love your way, my friend.

They did another CAT scan today of his head, abdomen and pelvis. If they found another mass they could biopsy it and pinpoint what it might be. But there was no other masses. He's running a fever now. They are pumping him with antiobiotics as well as pain killers. She lowered the sedation for awhile this morning and he knew we were there. He nodded his head, and when we said we loved him, he tried to say it around the tube. When they lower it, he starts shaking for some reason, they don't know why. They were able to turn the vent down just a bit, but it's still doing most of the work. The intensivist came in and talked to us. First goal is to get him off vent, which he says is going to be very difficult. They would like to get him at least to where he was when admitted. Then deal with the mass in the lungs, if that's even possible. He said it would be 3-5 days for the results of the cultures, if they got enough to do it. The gram stain, whatever that is showed nothing. He said it's most likely stage 4 if it's cancer.
He was going to ask the lung Dr if he wanted to try and do another biopsy while Don is still on the vent, but do it in the ICU. But that Dr never came to talk to me. The intensivist doesn't want to wait 3-5 days for results before trying to get him off the vent, so I think they are going to try to extubate tomorrow. I'm not expecting it to work in the condition he's in and they'll probably have to leave it. He's got an UTI, pneumonia, he's full of fluids and looks swollen, and it's so hard seeing him like this again.
I called his boss from his last job, and she came at 2 and stayed until after I left. She told me to call her day or night and she would be there. They were very close. 2 of the girls that were going to come to the house today to bring him birthday cake came up too. The nurse had done an assessment, so he was not heavily sedated. When he saw both of the ladies, he grabbed their hands and wouldn't let go. He recognized them immediately. We were all in tears, that he's still got his faculties.
By 4 I was exhausted as was Summer, so his boss stayed with him until 5. She was singing to him when I left (she's in the church choir).

Ben and Luke are there now, and my other sister and brother in law just left. She called me and told me that his temp is higher. It was 100.8 when I got there, down to 100.4 when I left and it's up to 101.8 now, and that's worrying me. I will be there in the morning to find out what's going on
Luke had a falling out with Summer and I this morning when he told us to stop being negative. He told me to be positive. There isn't much to be positive about at this time. I'm trying to prepare myself for the inevitable. If it's cancer, there's not a lot they can do. Don't body can't tolerate chemo or radiation. If they want to remove the lung, it calls for a thorasic surgeon and cracking Don's chest and his body can't take that either.

I'm exhausted and my mind is done for the day. I'll check in tomorrow

Thank you all for your care, it means a lot

@lynxstch My heart goes out to you and your family. Aside from the posts about planning, having fun etc. on this board I have come to realize there is a much deeper, spiritual side as well.

You have a lot of prayer warriors on your side!
Correct on all counts. Thanks for being here and sharing your good thoughts.

Lynn, I’m sure your day was absolutely draining. It’s so hard when you don’t get complete and exact answers and people don’t come by that are supposed to, etc. It’s also easy to think the worst. Especially when you hear words like cancer and stage four, etc. (Seems positive to me there saw no other evidence of disease.) Sometimes they do a PET scan, too, which looks for “new“ cells, and lots of other scans and tests, too, as you know, to help them determine what’s going on. Have they completely ruled out pulmonary embolism? Is he on heparin? Not surprised about a fever if he has pneumonia and a UTI. And people can have rigors sometimes with fever, especially if there’s a bacterial infection, which can sometimes enter the bloodstream, also known as sepsis. (Gram stain is a way of determining if there is bacteria present and what type it is. Certain types of organisms‘ cell walls take up the stain, and certain ones don’t, simply put.) If cultures are highly positive, sometimes the lab will call in the results early. It’s good they got him started on antibiotics right away.

I’m very happy you were able to communicate back and forth with him. I love that his boss sang to him and that he was able to hold his old friends’ hands. I also am so happy he spent time with his kids before he went to the hospital, too. Know that you can request the hospital chaplain to come up and say prayers and offer support if you want that.

My wise old oncologist, as I’ve mentioned here before, had a saying. It sort of drove me crazy because I wanted exact answers and descriptions, which she just sometimes didn’t have. But she would say, “Stranger things have happened”. It was her way of saying, and I can confirm this in my own work with patients, that we just don’t always know how things will turn out. Sometimes the cases we think are worst do ok, and sometimes the cases we think aren’t bad, don’t go well. (But usually there are pretty good predictors for each.) So praying that everyone where you are figures this out for Don and can offer him some treatment. It sounds like you know what Don’s wishes are should things take a downturn, and that’s a good thing, despite being something you don’t even want to think about at this point. If there’s anything you want to bounce around, I’m here.

Hang in there, and hoping you can get some deep sleep tonight. :grouphug: 🐥

Lynn… These prayer warriors are in full force for you and Don🙏 I wish I lived closer, I’d come over and do your cleaning that you do so well.🥰. We have been friends for so long now that I just wish there was more that we could do for you.
I hear the exhaustion in your words, please take care of yourself too.

Space Man We are indeed prayer warriors. Thank you for your kind words to Lynn.

Pea Thank you for you words of wisdom, kindness, and caring. You always explain things so well and with such care and concern.

Lynn I am sure you are exhausted and I hope you have been able to get some rest. I love that Don's boss was singing to him. How soothing for him. He has so many people on his side. I am glad he knew everyone was there and surrounded by your love and concern. Sending prayers to Don and all of you. And also for the doctors that they are able to help and do the best for Don.

Happy Wednesday!:sunny:

Today is Mia's 1st birthday :bday:. What a difference a year makes. This time last year she was hooked up to monitors, IV's coming out of her arm, tubes in her nose and mouth and now she's fiesty, funny, playful and happy. Crawling all over the place, feeds herself, waves and claps. I love having a baby around.💓

Got my chili made last night but decided to grill the sausages tonight. I'll run a bowl of chili up to my aunt tonight.

Tonight is Survivor night so I'm excited for that.🙂

Lynxstch - hoping for better news today.🤞

Have a great day everyone!
