@quandrea mom updates. Thoughts and prayers

[

How are you getting your updates from the hospital? If your father is controlling who is allowed to get those updates, I would not contact him now unless you have reason to believe he won't let cut her out of your life again. I would hate for you to lose your updates.
My sister is handling all the communication with the hospital. She is a nurse and my mother is a patient at my sister’s former place of work. She knows all the nurses and doctors. We have only her communicate with the staff to keep things simple and streamlined.

I’ve thought of that though. Better to not poke the bear right now.

Some advice required. I had been in contact with my mother for six months prior to this illness. We had been estranged for nearly seven years. My father cut me out of their lives. Wondering if I should call him though. I wonder if my mother would like to know we have spoken. He did know I was in touch with my mother, but he did not reach out.

Myself, I would reach out. Life is too short. Things like this sometimes have a funny way of helping everyone put things in perspective and bring people back together. Your father not reaching out doesn't necessarily mean he hasn't wanted to - it may just mean he was scared to, unsure how you'd react etc...

I would reach out, calmly, casually, without expectations and see where it goes from there.

I think the big thing I learned when my Mom was in ICU ( mind you I was 15) was to leave all situations with no regrets . If you would maybe someday regret not contacting or trying to contact then you kinda have your answer . As awkward as it might be you will have the peace you tried ? Find your inner peace ..
Sending thoughts and prayers xo

Report was from last night was positive. She was on spontaneous mode with the ventilator all day yesterday. It means she is doing half the work of breathing. They are pulling back on her sedation. And she has started to resist things like mouth care without drops in o2 levels. All good things.

In other news, my sweet ds was so excited to get outside to play catch. Thirty seconds in, he got hit in the face with a ball. Sent to dental emergency. Two front teeth were out of their sockets and loose. Dentist repositioned them, splinted them with wire and now we wait. Is it too much to ask you all to pray that he doesn’t lose his two front teeth? The dentist was hopeful.

Last night just about broke me. I’m usually pretty good with these sorts of things, but I think I’ve reached my limit. He’s happy this morning and the dentist last night in Toronto was awesome. I recommend the Dental Emergency in north Toronto if anyone ever has a need. Such an important service.

I'm so glad about your Mom, but sorry about your son. I can absolutely understand why that would break you. It's just the proverbial straw in a string of things going wrong. ♥️ I'll pray his teeth are okay.

Glad to hear your mom is doing better.

On your son's front. My sister was hit the face with a basketball in high school. One of her two front teeth were in the same position as your sons. The doctor put it back and there it remains to this day. The nerve didn't repair itself so the tooth is technically dead. It turned greyish and she has to have it bleached every few years but she eats corn on the cob with it. If you didn't know about her accident in high school you wouldn't notice anything at all. Sending positive thoughts his way.

quandrea, I've been reading your posts (and think I saw your comment as well in another thread). It's heartbreaking what you are going through with your mom, not being able to be there, plus the stress of the situation with your dad. So glad to hear that she is going the right way. Prayers to her. You seem really strong.

But oy...so sorry about your son. That certainly isn't something you need, especially right now. The dentist sounds amazing. Sending thoughts to him too. He sounds like a brave little boy.

Oh I hope my son’s story mirrors your sister’s.

I have been silently reading your posts. I offer my prayers daily to you and her.

I think I am in the same boat as others who have mentioned to reach out to your father. The last thing you want to have to deal with is that shoulda coulda woulda. It is obviously tearing at your heartstrings. I say go for it, with no return expectations. More just for your peace of mind. Especially since it is your sister who is controlling comms from the hospital.

hugs!

@quandrea.. Your good news is so good to hear! Glad Mom is making positive strides!

There was a time where I was the queen of it never rains.. it pours. I understand that end of my rope feeling and sympathize with you.. it’s def no fun. Here’s hoping that your DS’s teeth return to normal without any complications.

Sending you a virtual hug this morning... theres an old saying - When you get to the end of your rope.. tie a big knot and hold on! Here’s to things continuing in the positive & no more surprises 😊

Oh my goodness. It's truly wonderful news about your mom 💓 But your poor son...it's like a cruel joke. I'm so sorry. Praying for the best outcome for both of them.💕

Glad to hear you mom is doing better and sorry about your son. A family friend had that happen as well, and it sounds like your dental team is amazing-I hope he heals quick!

Good news today. My mother was taken off the ventilator today! She had been on spontaneous mode on the vent for a day or two. They pulled back on the sedation yesterday. Today she was awake and responding to verbal commands. So they extubated her and she is holding her own on the bipap set to 40% oxygen (which is much better than her settings at admission). So we are cautiously optimistic.

I called my dad last night. Just to say hello. He wept and immediately apologised for hanging up on me six years ago and not taking my calls. We chatted for a bit and he said he was so grateful to hear my voice and that he loved me. It’s a start.

Again, thank you to each and every person who has prayed for my family. It means more than I’ll ever be able to express. It’s a wonderful illustration of the goodness that still exists in this world.

I have tears in my eyes from reading this post. I can’t express how happy I am hearing both pieces of news! Thank you for keeping us up to date! I’m so glad things are looking brighter every day.
