Purses at the parks

I carry a slightly larger than necessary camera bag. It is got just enough extra room to carry chapstick, credit cards, cash etc and the best part is, when I need him to my DH will carry it! :teeth: We've started to call it the man-purse.

:rotfl: This is exactly what DH and I do!! We put everything in our camera bag. And when we go out at night - I make him hold my id in his wallet, and my lipstick in his pocket. :) I just hate carrying a pocketbook on vacation!

On our last trip, we used a photographer's vest. It has lots of pockets and clips. We assigned pockets for everyone. And everyone took turns wearing it hourly. Very easy and leaves a lot of hands free!

Our family always brings a backpack, so that's where we keep everything. I never carry a purse, but I think I'm just going to bring one of my sister's to use, and keep it in the backpack. That way if we split up, I can just take the purse out and I'll have things like my cell phone and wallet with me.

I have a shoulder bag that I got at a sporting and hiking store. It has a padded shoulder pad and the strap is long enough to put across my shoulder so I don't have to hold it in place. I carry a water bottle, camera, park maps, etc. I have had no problems with it on rides.

I used a very small backpack camera bag. It was perfect, it was big enough for my camera, video camera & disk, and a few extras I needed. I got it at wal-mart for like $12

Just call me Dora!
I never go anywhere in "the World" without my clear vinyl backpack!--makes sipping through security a breeze.
i don't carry a purse at home--once in a while i'll carry a combo cellphone/wallet case, but if i can't wrap the strap around my wrist, it's a no-go.
i hate that shoulder-strap slide.

I'm thinking abour bringing one of my wrislets and puttin ghte digital camera in BF's shorts. They always have pockets my camera is the size of a cell phone. hhmm speaking of cell phone hopefully he'll carry that too!

If you like carrying a purse, consider a messenger bag. It drapes across one shoulder and fits secure to your body, but leaves your hands free and will not fall off. I have one that I love. It is large enough for all my necessities--wallet, mini first aid kit, bug bite stick, sunscreen, tissues, hand sanitizer, etc. I carry everything I need, but don't feel like a pack mule. Hubby carries a few necessities in the camera bag. I don't use the fanny packs because they hurt my lower back. The messenger bag does not. QVC sells some nice ones for travel -- I think the brand is Travelon. Mine came from Target about 5 years ago. It is great for displaying your pins also, like a previous poster said.

I'm envious of the people who can take their room key and just go for the day. Sorry but I do need my Imodium, chap-stick, insurance cards, cell phone, Advil and a bunch of other stuff. I think I may have issues--I call it Girl Scout syndrome!

Since so many of us are carrying purses, backpacks, etc can anyone report on how the bag check lines have been? I remember last may they were a pain to go through, very slow depending on the checker. Some days I plan on carrying my messenger style backpack but others just taking my little camera bag (just big enough to fit camera - 5x7size or smaller). Do you know if I still have to go through bag check line for the case that clearly only fits the camera? or would I do better to just take the camera out of the bag and stick the case in my pocket (it fits easily in there)?

Thanks :)

I carry a nylon mini backpack that I got from Target for $12. That thing has been on like 15 trips with me in the last 4 years and even though it's a little dirty if you look at it up close (it's light blue) there are no signs of any real wear. I wash it between trips. It can hold a medium sized camera in its case, two sunglass cases, sunblock, a bottle of water, chapstick, money/tickets/ID plus at least one small Disney shopping bag. It's stuffed if I have all this stuff in there, but it does fit, and it's only about 1/3 the size of a "normal" backpack.

I am using one of these:

The one I have is black. Have fun shopping around for a bag!! :goodvibes

I've never carried a purse. I usually put my credit card, park ticket, driver's license, and insurance card in one of those pocket card holders, witha few dollars in it. Usually I only have that, a cell phone, and a camera on me. My husband carries the same stuff on him. We carry our water bottles with us. If we need more than that, we carry a backpack.

I have that bag and love it. Someone posted a site on e-bay last April where a seller had them for a buy now price of, I believe, $13.99. Quite a few of us Dis'ers bought them at the time. I used it May at WDW and it holds alot more than my WDW backpack that is quite a bit bigger, due to all the pockets the Baggaleni has. I also have another even smaller Lorenz brown leather messenger bag I won on ebay from a guy in England that's perfect. It has a larger center pocket that just holds my little digital camera and cellphone, then has two smaller pockets on each side that made it easy to organize the smaller stuff. I think I paid like $23.00 for it, but love it. It has a very long thin strap that goes across the body and it looks like a small leather purse. I bought one of those trifold wallet picture holders at Wal Mart for like .79 to put my ID, CC, room key, AP, and DDE card in and then just dropped it by itself into one of the outside pockets on the smaller Lorenz bag or else slid it in one of the little pockets inside the Baggaleni.

I wore brown Teva Pretty Rugged Leather sandals and black Teva mush flip flops most of my trip, so the color of my shoes determined which bag I used that day.

I also have another Lewis & Clark Mesenger bag I bought at, of all places, Burlington Coat Factory that converts into a fanny pack. It has LOTS of pockets. I refuse to wear it as a fanny pack, but it works well as a messenger bag. It has a long black strap that will hook onto it and then you slide the waist part into on open area on the back of the bag so it doesn't show. My D-I-L was over at my house the other day and was talking about needing to get a fanny pack for our Sept trip. I told her I would disown her, so she asked what she needed to get then. I showed her my bags and told her she could have any of them as long as she didn't buy a fanny pack. She chose the WDW backpack for my son to carry and the Lewis & Clark bag for herself, promising she would wear it as a messenger bag and not a fanny pack. She must have shown it to my mom, because my mom told me yesterday that she plans on getting the Lewis & Clark bag from my D-I-L when we return to use for herself on our Dec trip. Fine with me, as that will still leave me with my two favorite bags, which I will again be wearing with either my Black Teva Mush flip flops or my Brown Teva Pretty Rugged Leather, so I'll match.
