About two weeks ago, I posted a question on this board: if I call up DVC Sales, how long would I have to wait to get a direct VGF contract? The responses (which were super helpful and I really appreciate!) insinuated that I may have to wait a long time and would have no firm timeline. Although I had promised an update on that post, I failed at upholding it (mainly, given that I was out west on vacation last week doing some hiking with friends).

Here is my update. If the title doesn't give it away, I called up DVC and within three business days, I am now a direct owner at VGF. But here is the story for those interested. On last Thursday, I gave them a call and got the main talking points (book direct to avoid restrictions and enjoy all membership benefits, discussing the benefits and amenities at Aulani, CC, and Riviera). I politely told the DVC rep that I was not interested in having a home resort in Hawaii, given I live on the East coast, I am not a huge Wilderness Lodge fan, and I know about the Riviera resale restrictions and am not interested. When the rep asked if I had a resort in mind, I said I was interested in VGF, but would be open to BLT, too (I love Poly, but my girlfriend and I like the 1 bedrooms better). The rep said he'd check for me, making no promises, and said that the wait for a contract could be weeks. That night, he sent me an email with pricing breakdowns and the vacation booking simulation tool.

The next day, he called saying he had a 100 point contract at VGF and that he could offer full points from last year, too. Call me a sucker, but I pounced. I was at work and asked if he could hold it until today (Monday) and he said he could. I called this morning, signed the contract, and am now a direct owner at DVC. While on the phone, the DVC rep tried to emphasize the rarity of this happening; who knows if this is correct or just him trying to butter me up. Either way, I am so fortunate for DISboards/the DVC Show and am elated to finally have my blue card!

For anyone looking to book direct and is not a fan of CC, Aulani, and Riviera (and has a few grand extra burning a hole in their pocket...), I'd say that now is the time to go for it.

Have a link to that?

What UY are you getting? Are you sure you didn't get current UY and have the points banked for you to next year?
Love the profile pic :D
Here's the link to the planning tool: https://dvcexplorer.com/#!?username=guest&password=refDVCInDepth20200619&refCode=
I'm not sure how helpful it is because it doesn't show availability, only hypothetical costs (# of points needed).

You're right (I assume). I picked an October UY and have 100 points from 2019 UY, and 100 for Oct 2020 and obviously 100 for Oct 2021.

I am a member just interested what they provide or show.

Ya your in the 2019 UY right now so it's nothing out of the ordinary but still a good deal for not really paying at MFs towards them.

Yeah others I have spoken with said it's not completely out of the ordinary for them to offer that promotion. I am just glad to get the card now can hunt for a bigger contract with the October UY! :)

Wow what a trip that website is. It's too cool to be useful. It's like when Snapchat came out and I couldn't figure out how to use it because nothing was labeled at all.

So true... luckily I already knew all of the info from this website/DVC Show, or else I'd be super confused!!! Lol

congrats and welcome home. VGF is lovely that’s why I bought it too :-)

May I ask what made you decide to buy direct and not resale?

😆

I like the page where it has a pile of luggage for 2020 and 2021, but the 2021 image has an old suitcase. :confused3 I do think it's intended to look like the suitcase with the balloons in the DVC website login image, but still....what?

Also, the disclaimer on the bottom says "Membership requires purchasing an undivided real estate interest in a Disney Vacation Club resort that could expire as early as January 31, 2062...."
It's like they're only selling Aulani, Copper Creek, and Riviera.

I do like moving the mouse around on the page to get the little pixie dust trails. That's fun.

:woohoo:party:

Congratulations!

That is crazy lucky & congrats!!!! We own at the Grand too, it is just incredible.

Don't wait! Start adding on! We've added on 2 contracts after our initial buy-in. Really want to add 1 more high point low price contract (it's a daily discussion).

Welcome home!
We bought 250 points direct at VGF. My major regret was not buying more points. I bought another 186 resale later on. We love it there.

Thanks so much. I have been looking at the resale market and have obviously been enticed by the numbers, but part of it is I am currently a FL resident and soon (not sure exactly when because of COVID) going to be moving elsewhere. The gold pass is a must. I know talking about perks is silly because (1) they can go away at any second and (2) COVID is screwing them up, but they really did influence my decision!

Finally, I wanted to buy in at 100 points direct, and had no idea when they'd increase that number. Given that I was able to buy at VGF, the resort I was most interested in, I decided to pounce.

Same. Annual Passes was a big part of buying direct and being able to use the points at any new resorts that open. We just signed our contract last tuesday. The explorer link must be brand new, it didn't work a week or 2 ago. Although its pretty messy lol and not helpful at all compared to the old one.
