About two weeks ago, I posted a question on this board: if I call up DVC Sales, how long would I have to wait to get a direct VGF contract? The responses (which were super helpful and I really appreciate!) insinuated that I may have to wait a long time and would have no firm timeline. Although I had promised an update on that post, I failed at upholding it (mainly, given that I was out west on vacation last week doing some hiking with friends).
Here is my update. If the title doesn't give it away, I called up DVC and within three business days, I am now a direct owner at VGF. But here is the story for those interested. On last Thursday, I gave them a call and got the main talking points (book direct to avoid restrictions and enjoy all membership benefits, discussing the benefits and amenities at Aulani, CC, and Riviera). I politely told the DVC rep that I was not interested in having a home resort in Hawaii, given I live on the East coast, I am not a huge Wilderness Lodge fan, and I know about the Riviera resale restrictions and am not interested. When the rep asked if I had a resort in mind, I said I was interested in VGF, but would be open to BLT, too (I love Poly, but my girlfriend and I like the 1 bedrooms better). The rep said he'd check for me, making no promises, and said that the wait for a contract could be weeks. That night, he sent me an email with pricing breakdowns and the vacation booking simulation tool.
The next day, he called saying he had a 100 point contract at VGF and that he could offer full points from last year, too. Call me a sucker, but I pounced. I was at work and asked if he could hold it until today (Monday) and he said he could. I called this morning, signed the contract, and am now a direct owner at DVC. While on the phone, the DVC rep tried to emphasize the rarity of this happening; who knows if this is correct or just him trying to butter me up. Either way, I am so fortunate for DISboards/the DVC Show and am elated to finally have my blue card!
For anyone looking to book direct and is not a fan of CC, Aulani, and Riviera (and has a few grand extra burning a hole in their pocket...), I'd say that now is the time to go for it.
