I’ve read that at some point, air travelers will have to prove they’ve been vaccinated against COVID in order to board a plane. DH and I got a flimsy piece of paper for vaccine 1 and must return with that paper for vaccine 2.

Do you think there will eventually be some sort of official card or will we have to laminate our paper to have proof?

It gets billed to your insurance and you list a primary care. It's prolly in atleast 3 systems that you have gotten vaccinated. If they roll out a system for a travel card it would be tied to your SSN I would assume.

We didn’t have to show insurance cards. Just flashed our DL so they could see if the name matched the appointment.

As a natural cynic, I think those vaccine certificates will be too easy to fake. DH is over 65 and has gotten his 2 shots. I am younger and have not. We are supposed to head to St Lucia at the end of May, I am not sure what they will be requiring by then or if I will be able to get vaccinated.

OP is asking about showing proof of vaccination when boarding a ship or airplane. Not proof of ID when getting the vaccination.

I do think they will have to come up with some way (other than the card we currently have) to prove that we have been vaccinated.

I am keeping my card with my passport for now (so not carrying it in my wallet) and I have taken a picture of it.

Just because some people THINK (and hope) that will happen does not mean it will. IMO, if they're fine letting non-vaccinated people on planes now (and have been for the last year), why should you have to show proof of insurance in the future?

ETA: "proof of vaccination"

American, Alaska, and British Airways have already begun processing digital health passports. RIght now, they are specifically for proving you have a negative test within the timeframe required for those traveling to destinations with restrictions in place. I'm sure vaccines are right around the corner.

I just recieved my second shot and was only given that same piece of paper. I was surprised becvause I expected something mor official

In Georgia immunizations are tracked in GRITS, Georgia Registry of Immunization Transactions and Services.

Anyone administering a vaccine in Georgia must report to the database. I would imagine every state has a similar database. If they all do not communicate with each other already, there will need to be a way to get electronic proof directly from the databases. That will take close to forever before every state could make the necessary changes.

Any paper form, even if "official" looking, can be easily forged.

My vaccine appointment was scheduled in the CDC VAMS system since NH didn't have a vaccine database. So, not only did I receive the CDC card with my vaccine record, but I can print a certificate from the CDC VAMS website. For now I'm keeping my hard copy of my certificate in the firebox at my house but I plan to make copies of it to have more accessible as well. I just finished my vaccine series on Friday.

It will most likely be similar to whatever they do now when certain countries require proof of immunization for certain diseases, or a digitized version of it.
Yes - it's a poster-board type card that fits inside a Passport. It's globally accepted and has worked perfectly well up until now. I see no reason why the same system can't continue to work. As for forgeries, I guess that's just a risk the world is going to have to take because policing this in any uniform global way is impossible.

Got my Pfizer vaccines in Miami, and was given a "CDC Covid-19 Vaccination Record Card" with my information and the date, location, and lot# of vaccine I received. I took the card back for shot #2 and that info was also entered.

And, in response to comments above: Yeah -- very easy to counterfeit.

But millions of people have gotten at least one shot if not two and they haven't handed anything out yet. So how do those people get theirs?

Is that database tracking WHO got the shots or just that 'x' shot was given?
