Project Linus

Ours said nothing about having to be single layer. We received the following guidelines:

30x30 for preemies
Twin size for teens
They are in need of boy patterns.

I asked my rep what they were in need of. I guessed teen boys and she told me yep, they are usually overlooked.

Can you tell me the contact info for the NH Project Linus? I live in Manchester & this would be great for my family!!

Thanks!!

Everyone - make sure you sign up through the official website, or you will not get your vouchers.

WooHoo!!! I got in on the in Corpus Christi TX!! This weekend i'm going to sit down with the kids and make 14 no sew polar fleece blankets. Thats two each person!!!

We must have contacted the same NH chapter! (the seacost?) My husband was able to drop off ours last week and I got my vouchers in the email on Sunday. She told us at last count she was getting 815 blankets!!!

That's great!!! I am dealing with her also, she responds to emails within hours and already contacted Disney when I told her the blankets are in the mail with a tracking number. :goodvibes

It's so nice to see everyone wanting to participate and what a wonderful organization to choose!

I just wanted to say that last April, 3 days after returning from my son's Disney wish trip (and our 1st trip no less!), he ended up very sick and in the intensive care unit for 2 solid weeks. Upon our arrival a nurse brought him an armful of the mostly beautifully made blankets and let him pick one to cuddle during his stay. I can't stress that importance of that puppy dog blanket...it helped bring comfort to our son when he needed it and brought joy to that room.

Please make your blankets with love and care as that will be passed onto those that receive them! Thank you, you are appreciated!!!!

My hubby doesn't believe me, so I'll be asking the highest authority... you can only get one free ticket per volunteer, correct? No matter how much volunteer work you do, its still only one ticket.

Yes you are correct. Your DH is wrong.
The gloating may start ............... NOW.

Wow thanks for the heads up. I'm going to email our local chapter and see if they are participating. We have one opportunityclose by (swim instrcutor, so i'm not qualified) and none under age 16 for 100+ miles, so this would be perfect.

An update from my experience, I was suprised to see a local chapter in our area (smaller/less populated area). I emailed the local contact and she had no idea what I was talking about. Never heard of GAD or Hands On network. I sent her info on both so maybe it something I could do in the future for the GAD ticket.

I never heard of PL before and talked about it w/ my cousin last night after she showed me the no sew blanket she just made for her DS and have decided that I'm gonna give the blanket thing a shot anyway and make one for PL. So thanks to the DIS our local PL will benefit. So I guess Disney's get people involved tactic worked on me even without having to give away the ticket.

We are also signed up for project linus for 48x60 2 fleece blankets... Do I just go to the fabric store and buy the fleece and sew the edges???

Did they give you any guidelines or suggestions for what kind of fleece blankets they want (single layer, double, etc..)? You might want to specifically ask them, since some chapters have very specific requirements.

Our local chapter here in southern NH requested double-layer blankets and they provided a sample pattern for a "no sew" blanket LINK HERE

(size is different, but method should be the same)

They should show up if on the site if you search by your zip code (they're in Nottingham).

Their actual website is http://www.orgsites.com/nh/nhseacoastprojectlinus/ but as PP noted, you have to sign up through the Disney/Hands On website for it to count.

We're signed up with the National HQ in Illinois - 1 blanket per person. There was no local Project Linus or anywhere remotely close. I'm so glad because there was NOTHING for my kids to volunteer in our area. I picked up the kids after school and we went to Jo-Anns to pick our fleece. They are sooo cute and 40% off today. We bought 4 blankets, but our first one will be our "practice" blankie and we'll keep it (not very straight in a few spots). I'll have to go back tomorrow and buy some more fleece. My 7 year old is better at knotting the fringe than I am! The kids are so glad that the blankets they are making will go to other kids in need. They picked out patterns they thought kids would love. I'm so proud of them :grouphug: - they are trying so hard.

I signed up on over the weekend but haven't heard anything back yet, do you think I should recontact her?

The site says that you should hear back in about a week, so I'd give her until the weekend and then drop her another line. She was really great about getting back to me promptly. I emailed her today to let her know the blankets were in the mail and she confirmed right away.

That said, I have a feeling they may be overwhelmed right now. When I went into my GAD account today, I noticed they'd posted a note saying they're not taking any more sign ups/blankets for Jan/Feb. So could be that they've got their hands full just keeping up with the folks already signed up. :confused3

good idea. I think I'll do the same with the email that Disney gave me. I did a search for local nj chapters, but they are requiring 6 blankets per person and I just don't know if we have time to do 12 blankets between dbf and me.

That is utterly rediculous!!! My daughters and I are making 1 blanket each. My youngest is doing a double layered fleece (upstate NY, cold.... they want doubles), anyways just to get 4 yards of fabric cost me over $30.00!!! The supplies make one of our other quilts cost about $35.00.

So if they retail value of a GAD $72 how can it be worth it make 6 blankets???? Even if they are single layered fleece on sale, you are still going to pay about $90 plus a heck of a lot of time!

I already spent about 6 hours making the first blanket with the help of my girls.

Groups that are requiring so much aren't going to get much help!

I just finished mine yesterday and dropped them off. Each location is asking for a different type of blanket depending in their needs, climate, ect. Here in Cincinnati we had to complete one blanket per family member. I make the double layer tied fleece blankets for another charity quite often but the Project Linus in our area only wanted single layer blankets with the knotted edges. My 8 year old did all of the knotting on his, I made the cuts. But overall it took about 3 hours to complete all 3 blankets. It's a great program!

Maybe I need to register with another chapter, since my local Project Linus will only accept hand sewn or crocheted blankets,:confused3

I signed up last night and already heard back from my local chapter this morning. I am making double layer tied fleece blankets - one per person. I can hand deliver them to the coordinator's house, which is only 20 minutes from me!!!:cool1: My dd is also doing a project at school where they are making fleece hats for kids with cancer (not related to GAD). I am going to need to buy a ton of fleece!!!:goodvibes, but I'm glad to be participating in both projects!
