Progress: Flocking Flock Swap - Check-In March 1, Due March 7

Hi everyone!

Our second check-in date is Monday, so if everyone could please post an update.

I am almost finished with the paper piecing swap, just one group left, so I am now focusing on this swap. I am basically done with 2 groups. My snowman needs its buttons attached, so that is why I said basically. A third group, I have to ink the tags and assemble, which I should be done with hopefully in about an hour. I have 3 other groups designed, and will begin to cut them out this weekend, maybe, otherwise Monday. Once I get this third group done, I will post a picture of my 3 groups that are finished.

Checking in -- still done and still not mailed. I'll get it boxed up over the weekend.

Here are my

C: Monkeys
C1: Bears
D: Snowman w/ his missing buttons

Oh, and in the "when and how do you ink battle" I did both. The black lines didn't show through the darker flock colors as well as I would have liked, so I reinked with a black pen afterwords. I did have to clean the tip of my pen several times, since it would pick up the flock.

And on the snowman, everything except the holly and carrot nose are flocked. White, blue, green, black, red are all flocked.

Those look great Hope!

Wyfy finished his puppies. I just need to put the extra pieces together and bag up everything. Labels are done. I should be able to be postal on Tuesday or Wednesday. :thumbsup2

Everything looks great Hope. I have cut out my pieces to be flocked and their elements. I will be putting everything together when I arrive home from mom and dad's Wednesday.

Hope, those look great! I've finished all my flock groups. I'll send once I finish the paper piecing swap.

Mine are done and hopefully will get sent out this week. I want to finish MK elements this weekend so I only have to go to the post office once.

I wish I was in that group now! (Although it took me enough to work out what to do with mine anyway:rotfl: ) My package should be there any day:goodvibes

Ok I have a flock question. The flock I have I got last summer and it's a set with little vials of it and called crushed velvet flock. It doesn't seem to go on smoothly - is that normal? I just went to 3 places looking for a different kind (LSS sold out, Joann's doesn't carry it and the little LSS I just remembered about didn't have it either). So I just ordered a bunch of fun flock online but that won't come till later in the week and I already cut a bunch of stuff to work on for one of my pieces so I wanted to try and make it work with this stuff. I am doing a penguin for the christmas group and want to flock lots of his pieces parts! I ran the hat through the xyron then put the flock on but it looked lousy - but I used red flock on black hat and maybe that is why? I need flocking tips! Help!

I used both the Doodlebug flock, which is the crushed velvet style. And I used Fun Flock, which is fuzzier. The Fun Flock does go on easier, you can rub it out more. I use the tweezers that come with the Making Memories tool kit to apply it. I would grab a bit of flock, and then dab it around, and then rub it out. The Doodlebug I definitely had to dab more times, and when I would rub it out, it wouldn't rub very far.

I'm guessing, applying the red over the black, is your problem. For the most part, I match the cardstock to the flock. So on the snowman, I printed the red hat band on red, and then applied red flock. Black/Black for the hat, Green/Green for the scarf, etc. and then put it together like a paper piecing. The exception is on the full-body monkey. That is printed on dark paper, and then I used the Doodlebug flock for the dark brown, and the fun flock for the lt brown parts. That one I had to do very carefully. I put the Doodlebug on first, and then the fun flock.

I prefer using the Fun Flock on animals, since I want the animals to be fuzzy, but the Doodlebug was great for the clothes on the Snowman.

Hope this helps!

My pieces are already on their way, but I thought I'd use up some of the flock (I have crushed velvet too) on some leaves for my calendar pieces:goodvibes

DISASTER! I xyroned a load of different coloured leaves, then put the red ones in my messy tray and applied the flock. Well, maybe the red is more of a problem than the other colours but it was really patchy and whatever I did the pieces just looked messy.

So the final pieces have unflocked leaves with no red ones as I'd used the last of my red :headache: It looked so good in my mind!

OK - here is my Monday update on my four groups.

Disney Parks - I made a shaker box with 2 flocked black mickey heads. The beads inside the box are black and white. I went with a generic Disney so it could be used for any of the parks. I am all done with these items.

I also made a few tags with the extra red heads - they are not flocked since they are extra goodies.

Disney Characters - I made a paper piecing of Tinkerbell. Her dress and shoes are green flocked with a little glitter added. Her wings are a super fine blue glitter and each shoe has a white rhinestone. I have three done and am cutting the others.

Zoo Animals C1 - I made tags with different animals (monkey, elephant, giraffe, and lion) on them. Originally I was going to make bigger tags with two animals on each tag - I just couldn't get the design right and an animal per tag worked best. Since I had the animals cut already I just decided to make 4 tags per person. So I know it is more than "required" but I just couldn't throw the animals away!

The picture quality on this isn't the best but all animals are flocked, most with two or three different colors. They are really cute! I am done with my elephants and giraffes. Lions and Monkeys are almost done.

Halloween - Halloween is another paper piecing. I made a Trick-or-Treat bag with the candy corn and orange candy being flocked. The green candy was made from a glitter paper and I added the purple glitter to it and to the orange candy. The paper is fun because it is slightly shimmery and the black on it is shiny and raised. All my bags are complete.

I am hoping to get these out this week and will post when they are mailed. This has been a lot of fun and I am looking forward to getting all the beautiful pieces I have seen posted!

Thanks for the tips - It worked much better! I did make new hats in red and then smushed it around a bit (I wasn't doing that before) and it looks good. I had cut some of the other pieces in white and put orange flock on them and it worked well too!

I'm checking in! I may start my groups today. We just got home from my BIL's, so I'm slightly road weary (3.5 hours in the car).
