Problems with Pal Mickey

Anyone had problems using last year's Pal Mickey in the parks? I bought one NIB off ebay because I didn't have time to order one from the outlet. He doesn't tell you about attractions or show times but he seems to know where he is (at least some of the time) in that he will tell a french joke in France if you squeeze him. Between countries and attractions, he just jiggles and says gosh. INSIGHT ANYONE??? :confused3

Our Pal Mickey is from 2003. We used him last year and also last month after the new Pal Mickey came out. Both times he worked fine. We usually get the same tid-bits of info. as we go through the parks. He'll tell something about attractions or other background facts. He plays the games and tells the jokes, etc.

We were getting some parade and wait time information from him on this most recent trip, but sometimes he was off by an hour or so. We were also curious if there were anything new tid-bits about the new attractions, so we stopped by the Pal Mickey store in the MK and asked if he should be updated or anything. (Dh thought this would probably happen when we entered the parks.) The CM set our Pal Mickey down in a drawer with his nose next to something to re-set his programming or something. We didn't really notice much (if any) difference after that, but he was working.

Maybe you could see if yours needs to be re-programmed like that. If he's just telling jokes and saying "gosh", that doesn't sound right.

is he giggling/shaking constantly at the park? that was the tip in 2002 that my PM1 was in need of new batteries.

Try changing the batteries and see if that doesn't clear up the problem. He should be telling jokes and playing games at home with no problems unless he is in need of batteries.

Let us know how he does. My 2 will be thinking of him ;)

edited to add: Funny timing of this thread, I walked by and pressed PM2's hand after replying and he started going nuts shaking and saying "gor" he sounded like a broken record, just skipping. Changed his batteries and he's back to telling jokes. PM2 was bought in May and has not even been in the parks but has as of today already gone thru his 1st battery change.

Also, make sure that he is actually turned On. There is a Demo mode that he does a few things on, but he doesn't work properly that way. Just check the little switch on his back. If none of those things work, you can take him into the Pal Mickey shop on Main Street and they will hook him up and update him and then I'm sure that he will be like new. Good luck!

Thanks so much everyone! I am so excited that we may get him to work for the second half of the trip. We are headed to MNSSHP tonight and we will try to get him updated. Yay for MNSSHP and Yay for Pal Mickey!

I hope you're not leaving him ON.
He will be in the "input" mode at all times (if he's left on) and that will drain the batteries.

And if he's not being "used" for a month or two, you should REMOVE the batteries. That way they won't leak and damage the little guy.

I just came home (bought mine NIB from ebay too) and he didn't seem to know what was what a lot of the time. I didn't have him updated though. I thought it was automatic as he went through the gate. I'll have to ship him down to my parents so they can get him his "rhinoplasty" for the next time we're there! :teeth:

He needs to be facing forward as you go thru the turnstyles. Just in case. I know sometimes mine will be facing downward but forward but if he's spinning on his lanyard he probably would need to be reset at that park. For the most part my only park problem ended up with PM1 needing new batteries. He wiggled and went nuts, took him to the store and he was diagnosed as needing batteries, he was back to normal in no time. That was the 1st time he had done the wiggling thing. At home PM1 just sounds weird to me and I change his batteries. Last night PM2 started wiggling and sounding like a broken record that I just knew he needed new batteries.

They are always on at home. PM1 is over 2 years now and he's fine. I prefer mine on so I can squeeze a glove as I walk by to cheer me up after a long day at work. Even with me leaving them on, I don't go thru batteries. Now if we had kids that were constantly squeezing they probably would eat them faster LOL

Now before I forget again I'd best go and toss those spare batteries in the luggage ;)

What size batteries does he take? I am buying a Pal Mickey this Dec. and I want to bring spare batteries with me. Thanks!

3 AA batteries. They do sell them in the store (4-pk I seem to recall) but since I travel with 2 others who also have Pals one of us typically has a spare set in our backpack/fannypack ;)
