Ok, so if I get a contract for OKW with a december UY... what months can I book the different DVC resorts? Still haven't quite figured this all out.

The use year does not determine when you can book, it is when your points are allotted. As far as reservations, you would be able to book OKW up to eleven months in advance. You have to wait until the seven month mark to book non-home resorts. Did that answer your question?

That's right, Use Year has nothing to do with WHEN you can book, only home resort advantage determins that. I just wanted to add that December use years can be a bit confusing because your current points always seem to be a year behind. For example, folks with a December use year are currently using their 2004 points and wont receive their 2005 points until December 1st. This seems to confuse a lot of folks.

:):) We're still learning too;)

Let's say you've already bought an OKW contract...and you've got 150December UY beautiful new points ready to be played with...

First thing you do is get Caskbill's DVC planner:) It's free, fabulous, and can't live without it!! :goodvibes Thanks, Bill!!

Second...you're thinking a short getaway in oh...how about Valentine's Day?.. with hubby - no kids;) (The baby will be fine!!), and then a longer family trip in next summer.

Trip #1...you can book any resort - we're within the 7th month window for February...if you decided you wanted to take that getaway trip in ...April?, well, the only resort you could book right now would be OKW.

Same for trip #2...the only resort you could book would be OKW...if you wanted BCV, you would have to wait until 7 months out to switch your reservation.

Does that help?
Like Dianne and C*A*gogo said, your UY doesn't make a difference - unless you have to cancel vacations within 31 days...

HTH!!

Ok, here's another dumb question. I understand dues are paid in January. I have just signed papers on a resale with a UY of October. In Jan 2006 will I be paying on the points I received in Oct 2005 or on the points I will receive in Oct 2006?

You will be paying yearly dues based on the use year not the calender year. So your yearly dues will be pro-rated this year and will continue in 2006.
Just think of the dues a yearly payment/12 and that is your monthly payment.
Sometimes it seems high, but when you look at your accommodations you can't beat it.

Hope that makes sense.

To really throw a wrench into the confusion mode....I recently bought into DVC and had used my points for 2005, I called to find out when I could book for May 2006 and she said now since I had the points available for 2006 and the year I was booking was 2006! She said I wasn't borrowing!! So.....does that mean now, I can 'borrow' my points from 2007 and book for 2007?????
..........and I thought I sort of had a handle on all this stuff..............

You didn't mention your Use Year, but you may make a reservation in 2006 11 months ahead and you will use "current" points if your Use Year falls between now and that time (ie- if you want to make a reservation for next June, your points will be "current" if your Use Year is any month between now and next June). If you need more points than will be available at that time, you may borrow from your 2007 points.

If you still had any points from your 2005 Use Year, you would need to bank them in order to use them in the next Use Year.

You cannot make any reservations for 2007 until February, 2006 at the earliest.

In short, regardless of your Use Year, you may make reservations 11 months ahead as long as you will have access to points for the time of that reservation.

No, you stil can't book more than 11/7 months ahead.

NO!!!

Annual fees are ALWAYS based on the calendar year and have nothing to do with your Use Year. Purchases made directly thru DVC will have the fees prorated based on when you purchase (ie- a purchase on Monday, August 1 will owe only 5 months of dues- regardless of your Use Year- since there will be 5 months remaining in the 2005 CALENDAR year).

A full year's worth of fees will then be due in January, 2006 for the 2006 CALENDAR year. This is without regard to your Use Year.

Your Use Year indicates when you get your annual point allotment.

Your home resort dictates when you can book. Eleven months at your home resort. Seven months at all other resorts.

Our Use Year is September. That means every September 1st, we get 200 points to spend.

Our home resort is OKW. That means if we want to take a vacation in June 2006 & stay at OKW, we can book it in July 2005. If we want to take a vacation in June 2006 & stay at the BCV, we can attempt to book it in December 2005. That is the reason why home resort is important, if you are the type of person who likes a specific resort better than all the others. If it would ruin your vacation to not be able to stay at BCV, then make sure BCV is your home resort, because at the 7 month window, you may not be able to book the BCV. Remember, specific times of the year are busier for DVC resorts than they are for "regular" Disney resorts, so take that into consideration too.

My personal opinion is that each DVC resort has it's own charm, and I could be happy at any one. Not all folks are like that, and since it is a significant financial investment, it would behoove you to determine how important the resort is to you before you buy.
