Probably a dumb ?? but going to ask anyway...

If you had the option of transferring your ownership to a different resort, would you?

I too don't understand why you would feel the need to sell at a loss if you want to stay at SSR most of the time. Why not just use your AKV points there at the 7m window which will likely be available year round?

We actually were pushed over the edge into joining DVC when they announced AKV. AKL is my favorite resort, so it just seemed like a good fit for us. I wanted to own somewhere that I would be happy to stay on every trip if need be.

That being said, we definitely do want to try out other DVC resorts. So far we've also tried OKW (which we enjoyed but found the decor a bit outdated--looking forward to seeing the new renovations), SSR (very, very pretty resort!), and HHI (a nice, relaxing getaway).

When the time comes to do an add-on, I would consider adding on at a different resort in order to gain the 11-month window advantage. But I think the only resort that would really tempt me is if they did a Poly DVC. Unless they build that, then I'd likely do SSR points since they tend to be least expensive on resale.

But since SSR is such a large resort and not in a super-prime location (like BLT or BCV/BWV), I think you'll be fine at the 7-month window if you'd rather stay at SSR. Also, you might give Jambo House a try to see if you enjoy it more than Kidani.

I voted 'Yes', but it's not a definate 'Yes'. The only reason I'd consider it is because there weren't any other options available when I bought in at OKW! Although I haven't really had much problem getting any resort I wanted to, maybe only once or twice in all these years!! Of course I usually have alternates (resorts and accomodations) in mind when I'm calling for reservations... just in case.

This doesn't need to be a poll. The answer to your question is no. The adage buy where you want to stay is true.

I over rode my DH ( who wanted AKV) when we bought and we then bought BLT. Location was it for me. Honestly, I didn't even really know about resales and might have bought that way and then BCV or BWV. Again for location. So NO, I wouldn't change what we bought, but might have taken the others into consideration if I had researched a tiny bit more. If we do buy again, it will be re-sale and it will be at BCV or BWW so we can have 2 resort options at 11 months.

I to voted yes. I don't see us doing it if we had the option, we love OKW. Like others have stated we have stayed at other resorts with no problems at the 7 mo. window. We are staying this next Oct. at BLT and this will be our second trip there. We have small children and the location is just too good and convient to pass up. We had no problems getting a Grand Villa for the 10 of us at the 7 mo. window...smjj

I had a feeling and we did look into selling actually, but being less than 2 years in, we are looking at a loss...lol. I wish there was a "contract trade" option. We have only stayed at Kidani, OKW and SSR. We have stayed at SSR about a dozen or so times and we LOVE LOVE LOVE it there. We feel so "at home" - even on our 1st stay of just 1 night for MNSSHP in 2008. Our only drawback is the contract length. Also, having 12 months booking priority isn't really necessary there it seems as we have called twice for same day reservations and been able to get them no problem as well as other short term res requests.
To sell AKV and rebuy would really cost you much. You're looking at at least one closing cost and likely a commission if you use a broker for the sale. You should make part of that up on the fact that AKV will bring more than SSR so your replacement cost should be cheaper than your sale price for the same points parameters. It really doesn't matter if it's less than your purchase price other than the fact you'll need to pay off any loan to do so.

However, I would agree with the above statement essentially saying to keep AKV and use it at SSR. You should have little trouble unless you want THV or a 3 BR. IF SSR ends up with booking categories that could relegate you to the Paddock and Carousel some trips.

I would trade all my SSR for BCV or BWV in a heart beat.
As noted, you can, it's just that it's going to cost you around $20-25 a point plus commission and closing costs. IMO, better to put those dollars toward an add for most in this situation than sell and rebuy. Some other points systems allow you to do just this with an additional retail purchase. You can change both your home resort (not that it matters with most) and your UY by doing so. Whether it's worth it to buy say an additional 50 points retail for the ability to make the conversion would be a personal decision but likely worth it to many. The other fix would be to do away with home resort priority, something most points systems do not have. Procedurally difficult with DVC but potentially workable. You'd have to have a vote of the actual membership then a majority (? super majority) would have to vote in favor at each and every resort. Counting the votes is actually a little more complicated due to the unit voting system but you get the idea. I don't see them doing this for a number of reasons.

Voted yes here also, have points at ssr that I would want to have at one of my other home resorts. I do like ssr but can always get a room there. I agree with you about AK, not a very big fan of it at all. Probably the worst dvc property in our opinion. Some people always use that buy where ya wanna stay line but everyone is different and sometimes promotions, availability, and financing helps make decisions.

If you love SSR and have no problem getting reservations there, why would you feel the need to sell and incur a loss? Just keep reserving at the 7 month mark. It will almost always be available.

So as others have posted - there is no need to sell now and take a loss. Just book SSR at 7 months. Unless you want a THV, you don't need the 11 month window to book SSR.

I would recommend that you keep your Animal Kingdom contract and just book one of the other DVC resorts at the 7 month window. The magic of DVC is the flexibility so enjoy!

No, I would definitely not trade for any reason. But then again, I waited, researched and bought where I wanted to stay.

If I owned somewhere I really didn't like, I would sell and buy where I did like. My emotional attachment to BLT and GCV are worth a lot more than the loss of a couple grand. But then again, that's just me...and I make emotional decisions more than financially sound ones :lmao:

We own at BWV and would probably switcht to BCV if it were an option. BWV was selling when we bought in 2000, but we weren't very educated on resale possibilities so that is what we went with. Don't get me wrong, I really like BWV, and would be well satified if that were the only place we could stay, but we have really grown to love BCV (and AKV-Jambo) since then.

And to the OP, please don't sell your AKV and buy SSR. We need some of you to offset the majority of SSR owners who prefer to book at other resorts!

Just to throw in another opinion, I agree with others that said just use your points at SSR. And if you need the 11mo for whatever reason (THV, etc.) maybe you can try to do a trade on the rent/trade board.
Someone would probably love to use your points for the hard to get concierge accommodation.
