Probably a blasphemous question about Palo....

Does anyone else think it's overhyped? I mean, we ate there for the first time last month and DH and I are still kind of scratching our heads...it wasn't bad, but we certainly have much better restaurants local to us than Palo. We found it to be a bit pretentious given the actual food.

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? It was a shrimp and pasta dish...that the server kept telling me was soooo spicy....but, it was not. Perhaps I should have ordered the filet? Or just gone to brunch?

I don't know, like I said, I'm still scratching my head on that one....what are we missing?

I think the brunch is what all the fuss is about. I was underwhelmed by the dinner as well. It was a good filet and we like having date night on a ship, but beyond that it's not like spectacular if you're used to go to other really nice restaurants. We like brunch better because of the experience and all the food choices.

We love Polar dinners. We have gone 5 times, the decor, food and service for us was excellent.

We had a really nice view facing right out to the ocean. Our server was plenty nice, but kind of "rough" around the edges. I was surprised. The sommelier who came to the table didn't have a ton of suggestions like I would expect a wine expert to have. I kind of had to talk myself through the choices.

Food was good. Not even great. I've had better.

Maybe I should try brunch next time.

For us it wasn't about having the best
thing we ever ate but it was about getting better than just good (if not great) food while on vacation which can be hard to do. The MDRs are fine food but Palo is a step above that and then Remy is a step further. We do Palo for brunch but did do dinner there when Remy wasn't offered on our shorter cruise.

Palo food has went down in quality. I get it free being platinum but I wouldn't pay for it.

We love Palo. We have been many times. However, the experience can vary and a lot depends on your server. We love the idea of an adults-only restaurant and a nice, go at our own pace dinner.

I think for me it's adult only plus view plus as a platinum I'm only out the tip (which to me is worth it for souffle, view, peace and quiet v. MDR).

The first time I went to Palo, I was surprised that it was such a brief experience, and I was still hungry...of course they forgot to bring my entree :)
Missed my regular dinner so ended up having something from the quick serve upstairs. What did you have for dinner at Palo? Chicken fingers:rotfl:

The second bad experience was when I wasn't eating meat, explained it to the waiter and he essentially shrugged. The main dish had either polenta or pork on it (not described on the menu- I despise polenta and haven't eaten pork in decades) so again, no entree for me. This waiter didn't even offer another option :(

I still go but effectively for the souffle and view. Not for the food, at night, so much (well, when it's served!).

I do enjoy the brunch...if I could order the souffle at brunch probably not return for dinner.

If you didn't like it, you don't need to go back. Are you looking for us to tell you that you should love Palo?

Nope. Not at all. Looking to see what others have ordered because like I said, maybe I ordered the wrong thing.

Also, I'm expressing my opinion about it (which I believe is allowed). I can't be told to love Palo but maybe given suggestions to enjoy it more if there is a next time, because I do enjoy the little adult only time DH and I can get.

Haha, we were "chastised" for not ordering the soufflé, lol, and told we wouldn't be allowed to leave the next time without it, haha. I'm not a dessert person, and just wasn't in the mood that night. Maybe next time...

I really enjoyed Palo. I had the same dish that you did, and I agree with it not being as impressive as I would have hoped. However, I thought the bread was delicious and the whole experience was excellent. We also went on Pirate Night, and literally had one on one service with our waiter because there were about 5 other tables with people in the restaurant the entire time we were there. I would do it again, but we are trying Remy on our next cruise.

We enjoy Palo very much, Is it the best meal we have ever had, no way.
But the atmosphere, the service, the quiet, its the whole package that we love.
We do it at least once per cruise.

We ate at Palo for dinner one night and did not get the hype either. I think we went when we were on our 2nd or 3rd cruise and have not been back since. It just wasn't that impressive.

Actually, now that you mention it, I do remember the bread being really good. And the aged Parmesan in the antipasto presentation was delicious!!!!

I ordered the caprese for an appetizer and was surprised there was no balsamic drizzle on it. Minor details I know.

That being said, I didn't hate it...I just could have easily spent the time with my kids in the MDR and not spent the $100 it ended up costing...

Food is subjective. I was just offering our opinion.

I especially loved the rack of lamb and the moose. Best I ever had.

Our last server was one of the finist we ever had, anywhere. Attentive, but not hovering.

That is how I feel. Good. Great atmosphere. But too expensive.

I do prefer brunch to dinner and I agree it's not the best food in the world but it's better than the MDRs IMO and for us, the adult only atmosphere, the view and the feeling that we're actually on a date (what's the heck is that!?!?) is why we look forward to it so much. The chicken parmigiana was good and the filet was pretty good also. I had a seafood pasta that was just ok. It is expensive though.
