Princesses, Pirates and Pumpkins

Hi Corrina, my daughter and I love your trip reports and enjoy reading each new installment. It's especially exciting now we have our countdown for this year! Keep them coming as they brighten our dreary January days!

Lisa x

I am glad that you are enjoying the trip report. I have three more installments ready to go and two partially done and then this trip is over. I try to pace myself as my next trip is not until the end of April, but I will probably post the next installment by the end of the week.

Yay :yay: for some food porn, and I just love all your dresses! It's so hard to find dresses for gals like us! :thumbsup2 I think they are all wonderful! I wish I had so many lovely dresses!

I love the chocolate fountain I don't get to one of those very often and when I do, I take especial adantage of it!

Thanks for sharing. I'm following three different MR cruises and everyone has had a completely different trip. It's so nice that Disney can accomodate so many different types of folks and all have a great time!

Ebay usually provides. The burgundy and blue evening gowns where absolute bargains. I paid about $30 each for them. The gold evening gown was custom made in China, but even that was less than $100 including shipping.

This is why we love our Disney cruises so much. They really offer something for everybody. I am an absolute Disney nut, but Graham does not really get it. Still, he enjoys our Disney cruises as much as I do. Only the other day he asked me when we will be Platinum Castaway Club Members. We still have 3 more cruises to go, but I am sure we will reach this some time in 2013.

Day 14

We had another fairly early start as we had an 8:00 AM spa treatment booked. When we had our couple's treatment on the first sea day, Graham's therapist recommended a Bamboo massage for him. He decided to go for this. I decided that I would have a hot stone massage. We had the same beauty therapists as the last time and the massage was heavenly. This time round, we did not get any recommendations, but were just taken to the Rainforest Room after the treatment.

At 9:30, we had out Exotic Rasoul booked that came with our passes for the Rainforest Room. We had done this once on the Magic, but the steam room was uncomfortably hot so we had not bothered since. However, all the reports that is too hot have always come from the Magic. So we decided to give it a go. One of the beauty therapist collected us from the Rainforest Room and took us to the room that is used for the Rasoul. She explained what all the different lotions and potions are for and how to use them and then she left us to our own devices. Before she left, she got us some more towels. I don't know what she thought we would be getting up do as there was already a pile of towels on the bench. There was a nice big bowl of Elemis Ginger and Lime Salt Scrub, which we used to exfoliate. I was in heaven. I have a jar of the stuff at home and use it very sparingly as it is quite pricey. There was at least a full jar's worth in the bowl. We had also been given a tube with exfoliating facial mask. Once we had duly exfoliated, we then applied one kind of mud to the body and another mud to the face and headed to the steam room. This was a very pleasant temperature. They also had recessed seats in there with a shower head and shower nozzles at the side. I stayed in there for about 20 minutes before showering off the mud, washing my hair and putting conditioner on. Then I reapplied some more mud and headed back to the steam room. With about 10 minutes to go, we took turns to shower and applied the Milk Bath that we had been told to use like a body lotion and the moisturiser. While we were doing this, our beauty therapist knocked on the door to let us know that the time is nearly up. We got dressed and waited for her at the seating area just outside the room. She gave us something to sign to show that we had the treatment and then she left us to our own devices.

We headed back to the Rainforest Room to relax a bit more. I felt quite sore again after the massage and the hot tile lounger was heavenly on my sore muscles. After a while, I had to leave to get the prizes for the Scavenger Hunt and to collect the final gift for my Secret Mickey from the cabin. I arranged a time when Graham would meet me at the Promenade Lounge and then I headed off.

Prizes in hand, I headed down to the Promenade Lounge. I was soon joined by the first people from the group. However, it took a long time until everybody had assembled. The runners up from the Scavenger Hunt and one family that had participated in Secret Mickey never turned up. I was advised by the family that were the recipients of the family that had not turned up that they already had their final gift and I figured it was the loss of the family that had won a prize in the Scavenger Hunt that they were not there to collect the prize. It was nice to see most people in the group again.

I also got spoiled rotten. I had been spoiled by my Secret Mickey all through the cruise, but my final gift blew me away. I got an exclusive Figment pin from the D23 convention and also a Cast Member exclusive pin of Walt Disney holding Mickey's hand. It turned out that my Secret Mickey was the same person who I was buying for. When I assigned the Secret Mickeys I had assigned her mother to give to me, but they had swapped Secret Mickeys.

I also got some thank you presents from people in the group for the things that I had organised. I got some Kona Coffee from Hawaii. I also got a big gift bag. When I unwrapped this, I found monogrammed tissues for Graham and me, some vinyl decals commemorating our vow renewal, which I will put on champagne glasses at some stage, and a Minnie and Mickey cake topper. I was not sure whether to laugh or to cry. The one thing that I regretted about cancelling the vow renewal on the ship was that I would not get a Disney cake topper. I had searched high and low at Disneyland with no success and on the ship, they just had the Precious Moments cake toppers, which I do not really like. Suddenly I held exactly what I had been looking for in my hands. I decided that I would get the bottom of this signed by the captain.

After all the thank yous and goodbyes had been said, Graham and I headed to Parrot Cay for some lunch. Lunch on the last day is always a seafood buffet. I don't eat seafood, but there is usually plenty of alternatives. This time round, there was slim pickings. They had a lovely Beef and Vegetable Stir Fry and some Vegetable Rice, but that was about my lot. Of course, there was also the salad bar so I did not go hungry and the ice cream that we had for dessert was also very tasty. Graham was in his element though as they had Peel and Eat Shrimp on the buffet that day.

After lunch, we headed back to the cabin and started the packing process. This did not take very long. I had to head to Guest Services as we both had Ariel luggage tags. People with early disembarkation get Ariel tags. Everybody else gets other character tags based on location. As disembarkation is now by the character on the luggage tags, I needed to get this right. When I had originally requested early disembarkation, I had said that this would be for me only, but they obviously could not get their heads around this. When I went to Guest Services that day, the poor guy that I spoke to seemed to be utterly bewildered by the concept that Graham and I were going to disembark separately. Still, he did give me the Mickey luggage tags. Back at the cabin, I filled out the luggage tags and the customs forms. We needed one each this time. Once all of this was done, I grabbed my cake topper and our Mickey ears and headed for the Captain's signing at Treasure Ketch.

P1010241.jpg

The line for this was mercifully short. There were maybe half a dozen people in front of me. This was definitely a different proposition from the Panama Canal cruise. It took less than 10 minutes until I had my things signed. I quickly took them back to the cabin and then I headed back to deck 4.

I still had a few minutes until Stitch was due to come out. As I had not taken many photos around the ship this cruise, I decided to put this right. I have often taken photos of the window displays of Mickey's Mates and Treasure Ketch, but I had never previously taken photos of the character sculptures inside Mickey's Mates. I put this right. I also took some more photos of the atrium.

When I got to the spot where Stitch was scheduled to be, he was there together with his escort, but nobody else was there. Unfortunately there was no photographer either, but his escort was happy to take photos with my camera. As there was nobody else there, I had some real quality time with Stitch. As I was expecting that this was the last time I would see Stitch this cruise, I told him that the next time I would see him when we were taking him back to visit Hawaii. Stitch was pretending to surf and encouraged me to join in. We were just generally messing around. Once the next family arrived, I hugged him goodbye and went on my way.

After this, I caught up with Graham. We had realised earlier that we had not once made it to the Outlook Café this cruise. This had been a favourite hangout for us on the Panama Canal cruise. So we decided to put this right. I also had not had a Melon Mojito this cruise. I had developed a taste for this during the Transatlantic cruise in 2010. Normally I get my Melon Mojito from Signals by the adult pool, but I figured that they probably can do this at Outlook Café as well. We went upstairs to check if the bar was open. Most of the time during the Panama Canal cruise, we ended up getting the drinks from Cove Café and taking them upstairs as the bar in the Outlook Café was rarely open during the day. This time round the bar was open even though the Outlook Café was completely deserted. I did ask if they could do a Melon Mojito and the bartender promised to check. He came back and explained that they did not have the ingredients, but his colleague had gone down to Signals to get one for me. Needless to say, they got a bit more than the auto-tip. Graham had fancied an alcoholic coffee, but they all contained chocolate so he went with a Margarita instead. As it was so quiet, we decided to sit at the bar and have a chat with the bartender. He had come from the Magic earlier in the year and we spent a happy hour or so comparing ships and discussing itineraries.

We decided to head back to the Rainforest Room. We went back to the cabin to get our swim stuff and then we came back to deck 9. The adult pool area was completely empty so I took a few photos there. I also wanted to take a few photos of the Rainforest Room. Once I had taken all the photos I wanted, I took the camera to the changing room and put it in the locker. I spent most of the time just relaxing in a heated tile lounger, but decided to have one more session in the dry sauna before it was closing time. I met another person from our cruise meet thread in there, who I had not seen since we had got on the ship. It turned out that it was them who got evacuated off the ship on the second sea day as her husband had been taken ill. They were allowed to rejoin the ship on our second stop to Cabo. This added a whole different perspective to our little detour.

Shortly before closing time of the spa, which closes earlier on the last night, I went to get showered and changed. I met Graham in the reception area and we headed back to the cabin together. My wedding dress and Graham's suit, which we had sent to be pressed, had arrived back in the cabin. We packed the last few things that needed to go into the suitcase and put those out for collection before we headed to dinner. Just as we were leaving, our stateroom host slit the customer satisfaction questionnaire underneath our door. As there was just the two of us on our table, I took the questionnaire and a pen to do in between courses. On the way, we managed to track down our stateroom host to give him his tip envelope.

Dinner that night was the Till We Meet Again menu and we were in Animator's Palate. Graham made the best of not having to choose his own dinner for the last time this holiday. He ended up with Artichoke, Spinach and Jalapeno Cheese Dip with Crispy Pita Triangles, Crawfish and Lobster Bisque with Roasted Corn-chilli Relish and Grilled Beef Tenderloin served with Williams Potatoes, Asparagus Spears, Baby Vegetables and Béarnaise Sauce. For his dessert, he chose Deep-dish Apple and Cranberry Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream. I chose Grilled Chicken Satay with Mint-Yoghurt Sauce and Spicy Cucumber Salad, Potato Leek Soup and Grilled Beef Tenderloin served with Williams Potatoes, Asparagus Spears, Baby Vegetables and Béarnaise Sauce. For my dessert, I had the traditional Baked Alaska. We decided to celebrate our last dinner on board by having a cocktail. I had a Mango Strawberry Margarita and Graham had an original Margarita and they were both very tasty.

I am normally not a big fun of the "shows" that happen during dinner and fortunately they had got rid of most of those again on the Wonder. However, there is one show that I love and that always makes me well up. At dinner on the last night, the chefs come out with the flaming Baked Alaska and once this has been paraded around the dining room, the servers, assistant servers and head servers come out to a Caribbean version of It's A Small World waving flags representing all the nationalities that work on the ship. Graham absolutely hates it, but I find it really moving and powerful. I had asked him to record this for me this time as in all the Disney cruises that we have taken, I had never thought to take some video of this.

After the show was over, it was time to give out the tip envelopes and for me it was time to say goodbye to our serving team. They were quite surprised when I said that I would not be at breakfast the next morning. I explained the reason behind this and confirmed that Graham would still come for breakfast and then we headed back towards our cabin. When we got to the area near the midship elevators, Stitch was hanging out there. On the last night, they always have a little show called "Till We Meet Again" when all the characters and many performers from the stage come out. We always tend to miss this and I really need to make a point at having a proper look at this next cruise. Anyway, it was a lovely surprise to see Stitch one more time and I had a nice long hug. Stitch was also up to a bit of mischief. A housekeeper was cleaning in the area and he took a brush of her and "assisted" her with her job. This made for a very funny photo.

Once I had said goodbye to Stitch for the final time this cruise, we headed back to the cabin. Our stateroom host had left us a towel peacock and I took a quick photo of this before we headed to bed.

Ok so tell Graham I do not like his titles to the Flag dinner show on youtube... LOL Actually I 2 love this and hate it. Love it because by this time I am so attached to out servers and love that they get to parade where they are from and get happy clapping for their service. Then Hate it cause I know I am leaving the next morning. I also love the "Till we meet again" show in the Atrium. I know that is always the last time I will see Mickey and friends. I well with tears everytime. I am so excited I got to read most of your report before I had to get on the WONDER. But I thinnk I will have a bit of reading when I return...hoping for Vow renewal pics. BTW I am so excited to try and put in the hair pieces you commisioned for the girls. I am hoping their hair cooperates and I can put them in for dinner. I will have a piece of you aboard with me...well more then that..also their nylon backpacks, and their pouches. Wow you really are onboard with me...LOL

I shall pass it on. ;) Graham really hates it with a passion. He already has announced that he will pass on this on our next cruise. I have just smiled sweetly and said nothing.

I still have not done Till We Meet Again properly. This is on the to do list for the next cruise. I am also hoping to see Toy Story The Musical this time round.

I will definitely be with you in spirit on your cruise and I can't wait to hear everything about it when you come back.

Day 15

This was a bit of a sad day as the cruise was over, but it was also a very exciting day as this was the day of our vow renewal. I have to say that I have been seriously spoiled as our previous three cruises were 11, 14 and 15 nights long and this cruise felt a bit like "blink and it's over". Still, we had a wonderful cruise and even though we had done some amazing cruises in the past, I think this one was still my favourite. However, I was both ready and excited to get off the ship. I had arranged for early disembarkation for myself as I needed to get my make up and hair done before the ceremony. To make things easier, I put my wedding dress on when I got up that morning. I also put my Bride Mickey Ears on as my hair needed to be sorted out first before I could attach the ribbon veil. I have to say it felt great to walk around the ship in my wedding dress.

There was one last thing that I had to do before I could disembark. I had to collect my photo CD from Shutters. This was extremely well organized. They had the counters on both sides open and what deck you were on determined which counter you went to. There were 3 people in front of me and two members of staff servicing the line. So it did not take long at all to get my CD. As they say, third time is a charm. On the first two attempts of getting a photo CD, I always had photos missing, but this time they were all present and accounted for.

We headed back towards the balcony overlooking the atrium and watched the world go by for a bit. In the letter that I had received the previous evening, it had stated that I needed to report to the Walt Disney Theatre at 8:00 AM and that we would then wait until the luggage hall was open. It was about 7:50 when we headed towards the Walt Disney Theatre. We got as far as Preludes when an announcement was made that everybody who was carrying off their own luggage or had Ariel tags could now disembark at their leisure. So I kissed Graham goodbye and headed down to deck 3 to disembark.

Disembarkation was a very smooth process. There was a line for the immigration hall for US citizens, but there was no wait at all for the immigration hall for foreigners. They are completely separate at the Port of Los Angeles. I could not believe my luck when I could go straight to an immigration desk. My wedding dress caused a bit of excitement at immigration. I was asked where the groom was and told them that he was still on the ship and would meet me at the venue. I breezed through immigration and found my suitcase straight away. When I came down the escalator, the couple that did Trainer for a Day with me where at the bottom of the escalator. They tried to take a photo of me, but were told that they were in a restricted area. It was kind of interesting that once I had retrieved my suitcase and went to clear customs, the customs officer asked if she could take a photo of me. I was happy to oblige, but was kind of amused by the mixed messages that this gave out.

I was at the pick up area by 08:10. I was not due to be picked up until 09:00, but there was a handy bench in the shade and it was a gorgeous morning. I was just happy to sit. Shortly before 09:00 I walked up to the kerb. I suddenly realized with horror that I did not actually know what car my photographer was driving. It was so busy with cars coming and going that I was a bit worried that we would never find each other even though I kind of stood out with my wedding dress and the bridal ears. At about 09:30, I saw Jennifer come towards me from the other side of the road. She did the smart thing and parked the car in the short term car park and set off on foot to find me. I was so relieved when I saw her.

We headed off towards her home and even though she had picked me up later than planned, we were making good progress. We decided to get something to drink from a Drive Through Starbucks. This concept did amuse me, but I was very happy to get another chance to have a Green Tea Frappuccino. We also needed to make a quick stop at a cash machine as I had not wanted to carry that much cash with me on the cruise and I needed to pay the balance for Jennifer's services as well as paying the make up artist.

We still managed to make it back to her place before the make up artist arrived. This gave me the chance to get myself organized and get out the make up and the jewellery from my carry on. The make up artist arrived shortly afterwards and started to work her magic. She told me that I was the most laid back bride that she had ever encountered. Well, there was no reason to be anything but laid back. Everything had been planned to the last detail and what had not fallen into place was not about to do so now. We had discussed what I wanted to achieve with the make up and hair when she came to do my make up for the Trash the Dress photo shoot and I absolutely trusted her. The only thing that I vetoed is her using waterproof mascara on me. I had brought my favourite mascara and asked her to use this. She was a bit worried that I would cry and the mascara would run. I told her that I am not really the crying type so she went with my request. Other than that, I just sat back, relaxed and chatted with Jennifer, her husband and Marissa. I was surprisingly calm. When we were all done, Jennifer took a couple of photos of Marissa and me and then we said goodbye to Marissa and Jennifer's husband and headed to Crystal Cathedral.

We had arranged to meet at 12:30. However, we took a wrong turn at some point and we were slightly late. I was surprised when nobody was waiting in front of the Tower of Hope. I started to get a little bit worried. Fortunately they had just gone inside to wait in the lobby in the shade. Everybody was present and accounted for: Graham, our friends Sue and Ken, Pastor Bill and Kari, the wedding coordinator that I had been dealing with since spring, had come over to say "hi" as well. After I had said "hi" to everybody and the first batch of photos had been taken, Pastor Bill advised that we were just waiting for the venue to become available. This should have set off the alarm bells there and then.

The agreement was that the vow renewal would take place in his office. I figured that he may be sharing his office with somebody else. A few minutes later, he said that everything was ready. We got in the lift and when he pressed the button for the top floor, I realised that I was getting something very different from what I had expected. Nobody else realized what was going on, but I knew that on the top floor of the Tower of Hope is the Chapel in the Sky. They Chapel in the Sky is one of the official wedding venues and to have a vow renewal there would have cost $1500. I did not say anything as there was always the possibility that there are offices up there, too. We just enjoyed the great view going up in the glass lift.

IMG_7555.jpg

IMG_7556.jpg

Once we stepped out of the lift, there was no more doubt. We had indeed been taken to the Chapel in the Sky. This is a beautiful venue and the only one of the wedding venues that I had not seen before. The views are stunning. You can actually see Disneyland from up there. Pastor Bill let us enjoy the view for a bit and pointed out various landmarks before he called us to the altar for the ceremony itself. I have to admit that I actually remember very little of the ceremony itself apart from the fact that I was blissfully happy. This is kind of strange as I can recall every second of our civil wedding and the church wedding nearly 14 years ago. I was just totally caught up in the magic of it all. I do vaguely remember a couple of prayers and the reading from 1 Corinthians 13 before we exchanged our vows again and put our new rings at each others fingers. I may not recall many details, but I remember how I felt and this will stay with me forever.

I was very grateful to have been given this opportunity.

When we had come to Crystal Cathedral before the cruise to check out spots for photos, I discovered some stone benches in front of the Tower of Hope and a water feature in front of them. I thought that they would make a great spot for some photos. I could not figure out how to get to them, but the Tower of Hope was closed that day. Even with it open, we still could not figure this out. There were some more stone benches facing the water feature and the Tower of Hope from the other side and we decided to make do with them. The receptionist realized what we were doing and she opened one of the big French windows for us. I had not realised that they actually opened so we got some photos of my chosen vantage point after all.

I wanted a few photos with Crystal Cathedral in the background. We headed towards the memorial garden and the stairs leading down to this were providing the perfect spot to take those photos. While we were in this area, we moved across to the bell tower and took some photos in front of this. We were following the path behind the church. There was a service in progress and they had opened the big windows at the back of the church so that you could actually see some of the interior of the church. I thought that this would make a nice background.

At this stage I had pretty much all the photos that I had wanted. Jennifer asked if there were any other photos that I was looking for. I remembered that I had a spotted a Walt Disney quote on the wall of the visitor centre on our previous visit: "If you can dream it, you can do it". I really wanted a photo with this quote as this linked two things and places that are near and dear to my heart. Jennifer was happy to run with this.

Next to the visitor centre is a grassy slope and we decided to take some photos in that area. We were not brave enough to work down the slope as this was pretty steep, but we still got some gorgeous photos on the top of the slope. By then we were really all photographed out. We took some more photos in the area between Crystal Cathedral and the Tower of Hope, which turned out to be some of my favourite photos and then we called it a day.

I had made the mistake to take my shoes off before we went on the lawn and my feet were quite swollen because of the heat and I could not get the shoes back on. Jennifer had parked on the opposite end of the campus from where our friends were parked. As everybody was a bit worried that I hurt my feed on the hot tarmac and Jennifer's car was a lot closer, we decided that we would go to her car and then drive over to the other car park. Once we arrived at the other car park, we unloaded my luggage from Jennifer's car and loaded it in the car of our friends. They had the foresight to take Graham to the hotel after they collected him from the port to drop off the rest of the luggage. We said goodbye to Jennifer and then we were on our way.
