Princess Weekend 2022

on the off-chance that I fall in love with the spirit jersey, is anyone going to be at the cage match expo first thing on Thursday morning (or whatever the first day is?!) that might be willing to grab one and ship it to me? i shouldn't even be asking. but i do love me a good spirit jersey.

Never a bad idea to consider some heat acclimation training. Especially if you're coming from a Northern climate. I know for me, I just did 2.5 hrs at -10F. So being in the 60s is going to be a dramatic change.

Question - how does one do heat acclimation training while living in a cold winter area?

I've been following along for a while - finally jumping in! The challenge was supposed to be my "victory lap" after having a stress fracture and being on crutches a year ago. I've had so many set-backs during the comeback. However, I ran a strong 6 miles on Saturday and have done a ton of cross training on my Peloton. My cardio is there and my legs are starting to come around.

Seeing the early weather reports make me feel better about all the inside (see: hot) treadmill running I've been doing lately.

Either bundle up more than necessary for the outdoor conditions, or run inside on the treadmill.

My workout room, sadly and for some stupid, unknown reason, has 2 heat vents, despite being the smallest bedroom in the house (the 2nd smallest only has 1 vent) and when the furnace runs, it gets over 70° in there, so I get plenty of practice running while drowning in sweat. At least running outside at Disney will have the chance of a breeze.

The current plan is for me to be there at 8am (10am opening). I can pick you something up if desired.

My advice is to try and dress 20-30F warmer than you would normally for the conditions. So if it's 40F outside, dress like it's 10-20F instead. A poorly vented jacket works really well because it keeps a microclimate of hot/humid air around your skin. When I'm done with a good HAT run, I can usually pour the sweat out of my jacket sleeves. Be ok with having to run slower (effort trumps pace). Make sure to hydrate really well. And be prepared to cut your CD short for risk of hypothermia. You'll sweat a ton more than the last couple weeks of cold runs, but once you stop running that cold sweat will catch up to you and make your body temp drop quick.

Or option 3.....run inside on the treadmill with extra layers. When I was HA training for marathon weekend I was wearing 2 pairs of leggings, 2-3 long sleeve shirts (on of them being UA coldgear), and a fleece vest. My basement/treadmill area is usually around 60 degrees, and these layers were enough to make me a lot more sweaty than usual, and I didn't have any heat related issues going from northern-Michigan-cold to central-Florida-hot.

I am going to get in line directly off my redeye flight, so I can scout one for you.

And what do we do when it's 0F outside? 😆

Wear everything you've got... :rolleyes1 Presumably though you have an outfit for when it's -20 to -30F outside. So wear that outfit. Although, admittedly it does get quite hard to add enough layers when it starts to get freakishly cold. Reminds me of my HAT going into Dopey 2018 when the last few runs were at -8F and -16F. Luckily, the race weekend ended up being in the 20-30s so it didn't end up mattering. Forecast for me here at the tail end is 23, 30, 5, 16, -1, and then it's at Disney in the 60-80s.

I was soo thinking it was going to be cold since I watched all the princess videos from 2020 with it being super cold. Lol. Right now I will probably not be able to wear my winter belle cape which would make soo sad :( If for sure I am not going to wear my cape, I might switch my 10k and 1/2 marathon outfit. My 10k Belle outfit is better in the heat without the cape, than my, pink puffy princess dress.

Alright royals, it's almost that time. Which means it is time to rewind and go back to August 25th, 2021. We all signed up for the Princess Weekend for a variety of reasons, and on that day we settled on some personal goals (link). So how did everyone do in their pre-race goals, and how are you feeling about your race weekend goals?

Here were mine

My goals

-Make it to race day healthy and able to fully enjoy my first Princess Weekend.
-Run the 5k with my daughter in full blown Wanda and Vision costumes. It'll be her first 5k, and my first time wearing a costume in a runDisney race. Literally what dreams are made of, since this was the overarching goal nine years ago before she was even born.
-Finish Top 3 overall in the 10k. It's a lofty goal. I was initially disappointed that the Age Group awards were taken away. But I decided to turn that disappointment into motivation. The odds are against me, but if I reach greater fitness levels than my previous peak than it's possible.
-Finish the 10k in under 40 minutes.
-Finish the HM in under 90 minutes. Remains to be seen, but temps will need to be good to pull this off after the 10k.
-Meet new and old DIS'ers at meetups throughout the weekend.

-Still healthy. ✅
-Still planning to run the 5k with my daughter as Wanda and Vision. ✅
-Finish Top 3. Remains to be seen. I've put myself in a good position as my current estimate is something around 39:00-39:30. Some years that would be good enough, and others not.
-Finish the 10k in under 40 min. Definitely doable.
-Finish the HM in under 90 min. Definitely doable.
-Meet new and old DIS'ers at meetups throughout the weekend. On track to complete this one with pre-race meetups and a Saturday HH. ✅

@Naomeri, @Wvujodie30, @SheHulk, @The Expert, @patty22407, @HangWithMerida, @azrivest, @DisneyMountainWoman, @Spikester, @Sleepless Knight, @drlorilovesdisney, @Brianna.kelsey95, @Livelovedance, @Tiggerette

And anyone else want to set some goals that didn't back in August? Did you know you're twice as likely to complete a goal if you write it down? Did you know you're twice as likely to complete a goal if you tell someone else? So why not quadruple your odds and write it down by telling us!

My goals from August:
1) finish all 3 races in one (functional) piece without getting swept
2) run all 3 races in some kind of costume/themed outfit
3) HAVE FUN!
4) get a picture coming out of Cinderella Castle
5) get lots of pictures during the 5K in case I don’t have a lot of time during the other races

1) I’m as trained as I can be, and I know I can complete a half marathon distance, having done it twice during training, and I know that I can complete the 3 race distances on consecutive days, having done it virtually during MW.

2) I have costumes prepared for all 3 races, and I’ve run the distances in them.

3-5) All that’s left is to show up and the rest of these should be covered.
