Princess Weekend 2022

Oh yes, the indoor bathrooms! I hadn't even thought of that. Are all the indoor restrooms we pass on the course in MK open? Like that one between Adventureland/Frontierland?
Gotta admit though, I'm not too jazzed about not requiring masks when in comes to the expo/merch/bib pickup. Shopping in general. Big ol stew of indoorsyness. I'll keep my mask on and not linger.
I can tell you that, at the time I went through on MW during the half, the bathroom by Gaston's Tavern was open and had NO LINE. I took a hard right into that bathroom when I saw that. Totally unexpected.

Between this and the list Dopey Badger posted, it sounds like there are plenty to choose from. I guess I just didn't need a restroom when I passed through MK in 2020, but I also feel like I sped through when I should have dawdled just a little bit as it's obviously the most wonderful part of the run. I have a not irrational fear of my sunglasses, earpods, phone etc falling into the toilet hole in a portajohn.

I'm so super excited for the weekend! But I"m also going through so many regrets in my head and still pondering how to beg and plead runDisney to change my registration to the 5k (from the 10k). I was so prepared for Princess 2021 and fully admit that I gave up training - I haven't touched anything over 4 miles since way back closer to the 2021 race. I even like the 5k map better because of running all through WS! Just going through a lot of - "I should have pushed harder, I should haven't made excuses....." My husband WALKS faster than I run......like so much faster. I'm going to bank on the energy of the day and hope it can keep me from being swept off the course!
For what it's worth, I did the 5k and 10k during marathon weekend back in 2020. I was dealing with an injury and was only able to run the first half of the 10k. I walked the rest. My husband and I were in the corral ahead of my sister and her friend. They ran the whole thing and never caught up to us. Unless you start in the last corral, I bet if you can do 4 miles, you will not struggle to finish the 10k. But, if you are concerned and want someone to encourage you along the route, let me know. I was supposed to do it with my sister who decided to fall down some stairs and break her foot last week. So now, the plan is for me to go at it alone.

I think my main goal when I signed up was "just get running again!" since without a target race during the pandemic running had turned to walking most of the time. In that regard I'm on track again. I think I had a few personal stretch goals some of which might still happen (lose weight, did not; this is my third half and my pace is on track to be closer to the better time than the longer one so I'm happy about that; finish at the pace I set rather than walk-only last few miles, I think because the weather will be cooler than the Star Wars weekends were I might be on track for that). This is, however, my first challenge and I'm really not sure what the 10k (plus some required Pokemon playing) the day before will do to me so fingers crossed!

My goal when this question was asked last August was to sign-up and register for Spring Surprise, this weekend wasn't on the agenda! :)
Ultimately, I'm very happy to be doing Princess instead. Mulan on the half medal really cinched the deal. Just hoping she has a pretty shirt color, since I'm hoping it will be my new favorite.

Goals for this weekend are to have fun, and to not reinjure myself.

I needed to take a month off running after MW due to injury. I just got cleared by my orthopedist to resume running last week as well as was put on a 6 week PT program for my knee. Fortunately, I was in great shape beforehand, so I think taking it easy + what I hope is an S1 start should see me through.

My goals from August:
“I have never done more than 2 races on a race weekend. So, my goal for the Princess 5k is to have fun and maybe do some character pictures (I’ve never been brave enough to do that with a half or full because of fear of being able to get moving again after).
For the 10k, I want to take it slowly as a warm up race for the half. Will probably get more character pictures.
For the half, I would like to finish in 2:15 or better (would be a PR for me). I am using a Hal Higdon training plan and already feel better prepared than I ever did leading up to the 2020 full.”

So I decided I want to race the 5k (I know it is not timed).
For the 10k, I am going to take it leisurely, have fun, and get some pictures depending on lines.
I might be able to do the half in 2:10 now. Maybe as long as my anterior tibial muscle does not cramp up too bad. Fingers crossed.
I really just want to have fun and enjoy being away from work.

For anyone that was at W&D or MW, was the medal engraving booth there this year at the finish area? If so, is the cost still $20 cash?

Sorry about your sister! Thanks for the encouragement. I will definitely try to find this meet up on 10k day because I will need help/pushing to get into a corral at the right time to help me build a buffer.

I don't recall seeing it at MW, but there was an advertisement (and discount, iirc) in the digital event guide for a little metal engraved slider that goes over the medal ribbon (that was ordered online and mailed after the event). I saw a few pics of them on the FB group, I think. They looked good!

I can't remember (we looked at the medals at the MW expo) if they have the same coating on them as the MW medals, but with all the reports of flaking/chipping of the "iridescent" coating on the medals just being worn around from MW I would be very concerned about what engraving would do to that coating IF the princess medals have the same thing.

Hi everyone! Haven’t checked in for a while but I am SO excited for this race! I completed a half marathon as my last long run on Sunday and crushed it - The progress I’ve made from being able to walk two miles in September to now doing 12 minute miles is blowing my mind. Excited to keep plugging and finding new goals to work towards :)

EDIT: One question - How does the running tracking work? Will people get text alerts or do they actively have to refresh a screen to see what I’ve most recently passed? And how often does it update? I have a few people who want to follow along and a fiance who wants to know where he needs to be to spectate so I’m curious on what our game plan should be.

You put in their phone number at the expo, and they get several texts over the course of the race: one when you start, and then I think two interim ones during the race. I'm planning on doing that for my spectators so that they remember to get to the finish line on time since the race will be texting them!

Just a warning that sometimes the alerts are delayed. There were times during the marathon in January when we didn't get alerts from mat crossing for 20 or 30 minutes. So if you're trying to find or meet up with spectators, texting your location is far more reliable.
