Princess Weekend 2022

Alright royals, it's almost that time. Which means it is time to rewind and go back to August 25th, 2021. We all signed up for the Princess Weekend for a variety of reasons, and on that day we settled on some personal goals (link). So how did everyone do in their pre-race goals, and how are you feeling about your race weekend goals?

Here were mine

-Still healthy. ✅
-Still planning to run the 5k with my daughter as Wanda and Vision. ✅
-Finish Top 3. Remains to be seen. I've put myself in a good position as my current estimate is something around 39:00-39:30. Some years that would be good enough, and others not.
-Finish the 10k in under 40 min. Definitely doable.
-Finish the HM in under 90 min. Definitely doable.
-Meet new and old DIS'ers at meetups throughout the weekend. On track to complete this one with pre-race meetups and a Saturday HH. ✅
Love love love this. Thank you for record-keeping Billy.
Here were mine:
My goals are to PR in fun, as they say. I have too many costume ideas and only 2 races (plus the two for Goofy in January)! So my goals are
-awesome costumes I'm pretty stoked about my costumes, have to say. The Megara accessories kit showed up in the mail yesterday. Low-effort but will look authentic. I finished the embroidery piece for the "Brave" tapestry for my half outfit, and my mom sewed it onto my dress. It was tedious work doing the embroidery for an outfit I will wear for a max 4 hours, but I'm happy with how it turned out.
-all photo stops, even any villains which I never care to get a picture with. I think my plan for both races is to run pretty fast in between photo stops and just commit to stopping at all of them for a break Have to remind myself of this in the moment. I said I'd do this at Marathon Weekend, but then skipped some of the longer lines. Have to remind myself I have plenty of time to finish, and I'm only here once (maybe)
-go to some meetups That's the plan! See you pre-race and at Hurricane Hannah's!
-maybe even cross the half finish line with an an alcoholic drink? That may be too much for me. If not then definitely a parking lot beer Don't know what I was thinking here... No way anything is open during the 10k, and if the races do start at 5AM, no way anything is open in Epcot during the half either. We'll see about a parking lot beer, if they even offer them.

Can't wait already!!!! I could use a warm-weather vacation!

Oh fun thanks for this!

-5k goal: get as many photo ops as possible. On track! Not even gonna wear any plated shoes just to not be enticed to run ✅
-Challenge goal: run under 4h total On track. This is an easy goal in normal race conditions. I'm going to race the 10k and have fun with the HM. We'll see how much I end up stopping on Sunday.
-HM goal: that iconic castle picture. Gonna need to rewatch the races videos and stay left when I'm going out of the castle.
-Meet-ups: On track to complete this one with pre-race meetups and a Saturday HH. ✅

Which reminds me... Are there any stop and pose PhotoPass opportunities around the castle, or it's simply cross your fingers and hope you don't get Mike Wazowski'd when you exit the castle?

STAY LEFT. There are multiple photopass photographers in front of the castle, you have to exit to the left once you go down the ramp out of the castle (Don't go to "USA Land" as Billy said elsewhere :rotfl2:) there will be multiple, probably l o n g lines, one for each photographer.

To add to what I wrote. I don't want to race the HM cause I want to enjoy it first and foremost. I'm treating it as @flav previously wrote as a D race. Still, I don't think I've ever felt better prepared for a race. Except for a few HM tempo runs on the treadmill which were really hard, I've never felt overly pushed or fatigued from excessive training. DopeyBadger's training plan was incredible and it's in very much part thanks to him :)

I'm so super excited for the weekend! But I"m also going through so many regrets in my head and still pondering how to beg and plead runDisney to change my registration to the 5k (from the 10k). I was so prepared for Princess 2021 and fully admit that I gave up training - I haven't touched anything over 4 miles since way back closer to the 2021 race. I even like the 5k map better because of running all through WS! Just going through a lot of - "I should have pushed harder, I should haven't made excuses....." My husband WALKS faster than I run......like so much faster. I'm going to bank on the energy of the day and hope it can keep me from being swept off the course!

Goals:
1. My first 1/2 marathon, so completing and not getting swept.
-On track ran 1/2 marathon distance in training with an average of 15:50min miles, so under 16 mins min miles and that was me going slow or aka sexy pace. I have done some magical miles pacing where I am at 13 min miles and just did a 10k with a time of 1:25 , with an average 13:56. So I have made some huge gains. Also I am hoping running in lower altitude will help me run faster since I have done all my training in Denver, so we are a mile high and I have even done some training in the mountains too.
2. First challenge, so running back to back without getting swept.
-On track have done some back to back runs.
3. Cross the finish line in at least one of the races with a drink in my hand.
-Will not be able to do that with the 10k to early for that, I think can still manage it for half marathon, I have read the need to make sure to bring my id, just incase they ask for it.
4. Get down to my pre pregnancy weight. I started running again to help lose weight. I have so far lost 30 pounds.
- I am at 175-178 pounds. I am almost at pre pregnancy weight which is 170, I have stalled out on my weight loss though.
5. Have cool fun pics in my costumes while running.
-I have some really cool costumes, so I am excited to get some pics in them.

One of my main goals was to quicken my pace enough to get to Main Street before full daylight. All was going well at the start of training and then winter hit. We have had several snowstorms several weeks in a row that has made training significantly more difficult. But it is what it is. I'm still feeling hopeful I'll meet my goal but it's also okay if not. Just happy to be getting some sun and warmth soon!

I know we haven't seen the merch yet...but I'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to the bib pickup Expo Thursday or Friday. I already pre-purchased something, though I can't recall what. Whatever bundle #1 is. Must be a magnet, pin and something else for $51. 100% forgot I did that the last time and never picked it up like a total ding dong.

My left IT band decided to be problematic out of the blue a few miles into my final long run, so I'm interested in getting taped at the expo unless the line is mega long. I'll have my husband and non-running friend in-tow , unless I can convince them to go to a park without me so I can poke around the expo at my own pace.

If you can do 4 miles, you can finish the 10K. Get to your corral early and find a place toward the front for additional buffer, then just do what you can. While it doesn't go around WS, I really enjoyed this 10K course (which was new for marathon weekend). Two parks!

Ooh, must have missed the original post back then.

Well, my goals were simply to PR the HM with at least a 1:53:35, and remain healthy from my nagging plantar fasciitis injury.

Based on everything I've done in my training plan and the improvement I feel today compared to where I started 18 weeks ago, I feel certain I will be close to that PR.

I did indeed manage to avoid re-aggravating my plantar fasciitis! I got a great PT who told me warning signs and what exactly to do every day. I'm not pain free and likely never will be because of my anatomy, but the pain has never been worse than lightly-moderate. That's the goal and it's worked splendidly.

However... before I can do any of that I have to figure out what's going on in my other foot now. For the first time in 18 weeks, I'm on the bench because of the new injury. I know what it isn't, and the remaining possibilities are what makes me nervous. I was able to get an appointment with my ortho on Thursday, so my HM hinges on that. I guess if nothing else, at this point I can take solace in knowing my fitness is exactly where it needs to be for the HM, and any extra rest right now can be seen as beneficial for my plantar fasciitis.

Weather Update (previous). Very little has changed.

5k - (5am to 7am) - T+D of 122-122; 63F with 59F dew
10k - (5am to 8am) - T+D of 122-123; 64F with 59F dew
HM - (5am to 10am) - T+D of 119-127; 62F with 57F dew

Based on an 11:15 pace, and thinking I should start around 5:30 (I should prolly be in S2 or S3), I should be at the castle around 6:30?

I'm not aiming for the dark sky pic, any pic will be good enough for me. But twilight is pretty darn cool as well

Way to go staying on target! Love the Wandavision costume plans.

My only real goal was to finish feeling less wrecked than I did last time. I was feeling pretty confident in meeting that goal until my final long run before taper. The IT band pain was an unexpected and unpleasant surprise. I dealt with it early on when I started running a few years back so I know exactly what it is and thought I had it beat. It currently feels fine (of course, I'm not running right this second) so it might have been a fluke. I did spend more time than normal sitting on my butt the day before.
I'm hoping to still finish strong, even if I have to slow down. I'm still in a better place physically overall than I was in 2020. Here's hoping!

If Princess is similar to MW, then I would say s2 will start around 5:06am, s3 around 5:23am, and s4 around 5:34am. If you put a 2:00-2:15 estimate, then you will be in s2. You are very likely in s3 if you put an estimate of 2:15-2:30.

The castle is Mile 5.3, so I would agree with your timing of about an hour or so.

I put a 2:15 estimate since my HM PR is 2:14, but I feel bad, knowing I'm not aiming for a PR this time. I'll stay in the back of S2 if that's the case.

Big news fellow Princess Runners! As of this Thursday, masks will only be required on Disney transportation, nowhere else! So we don’t have to dig out a mask to stop at an indoor bathroom on the course.

Link to mask requirements on the WDW website
Oh yes, the indoor bathrooms! I hadn't even thought of that. Are all the indoor restrooms we pass on the course in MK open? Like that one between Adventureland/Frontierland?
Gotta admit though, I'm not too jazzed about not requiring masks when in comes to the expo/merch/bib pickup. Shopping in general. Big ol stew of indoorsyness. I'll keep my mask on and not linger.

If the data bears out like MW, you have almost nothing to worry about in terms of starting near the back of the group. Very few runners in s2 will actually be aiming for a 2:00-2:15 HM. Many runners even in a PR attempt in s2 will not be able to run less than 2:15. It's the nature of the estimate vs POT. In 2020, 2100/20499 runners did it in 2:15 or less. So that's about 10% of the field. If Princess is like MW, then s1+s2 = 31-38% of the field. So maybe start towards the front middle of s2 and you'll be more than fine.
