Princess Power - September 2016 Weight Loss and Lifestyle Change Challenge

Hello ! I'm new to the group. I started working on my health at the end of August. I'm down 13 pounds and feeling pretty good. I really loved the support I'd gotten in the past on these boards, so I thought I'd jump right in again :)

----
No, I have never done any type of martial arts - well, unless you count 'Tae Bo' tapes back when they were a thing. I don't count those :joker:.

This weekend, I decided to do something unusual - usually, I just like to veg out from the long work week and do NOTHING. However, since I really wanted to get my 10,000 steps in (thanks to my fitbit), I decided to take my two girls, DD9 and DD7, to the National Zoo. Got my steps in and got to spend a great day with my girls.

Welcome!!

And isn't it amazing what a fitbit can do to keep you active?! When I got mine two years ago, I was shocked how little I moved on my regular weekends. I always thought that weekends were when I gained weight, but I thought it was the eating. Turns out the non moving was quite a factor, too! And you managed to even have some great fun with your kids.

QOTD:
No, I have never and kind of have no interest in these kind of sports. I guess they are too physical for me. I do not enjoy when someone else is preventing me from doing what I want to do. I tend to give up far too easily. So, maybe it would be good for me to learn not to give up that easily, but it is not that high on my list. I know that I am not the most self-prevailing person and am more working on not giving up on the mental side (there I am better and can be quite stubborn, but also easily thrown off again).

I really love Mulan, but have not seen it since it was released. I even own it on DVD! A few year ago they were selling a collection of the 20 most successful Disney/Pixar animated movies for 50€ (about 57$) and I thought that was such a good price that I got the box. I only watched 3 so far out of this box. But when American friends of mine (she is my wonderful Disney travel agent) recently visited Nuremberg and had dinner at my place, their 8 year old boy chose to watch Ratatouille out of this box and fell in love with the film. It was the first time he saw it and was a perfect choice as they were moving on to Disneyland Paris the next day where they have an amazing Ratatouille ride. And it was perfect for us adults as we got to chat.

Sorry for the rambling... :scared:

On the weight loss front: I have lost some more and am now at truly 0% for the month. That's better than what I saw on Monday. It is really crazy how my weight can fluctuate with over 4 pounds so quickly. I am wondering if I should talk to my doctor about this... Now I need to be disciplined as my vacation is coming up at the end of the year and 1) I promised myself that I would be at a lower weight than before my last cruise before I board the ship, 2) I need to fit into my formal wear and 3) the lower I get before the vacation, the lower the after vacation weight will be. However, the last two days I have been struggling with the eating as I was hungry all the time. Some might be because of my body still battling the cold (finally feeling much improved today, if the rain stops, I will go out for a run!), but I also think I just got used too much to eating more. I tried to eat healthy snacks (fruit, low fat cheese) and not pig out on candy. I need to limit my sugar intake again and up the protein as I know that this is what causes the hunger.

Welcome to the group TimonTracy!

I guess they are too physical for me.

Me too really think.

That worked out great. You know I only saw Mulan, Pocahontas and Princess and The Frog when DD was younger and there was a Disney Princess movie festival at the local cinema - it was a different movie each Sunday morning.

Hang in there - I know you can do it - you are one my inspirations on this board :-)

Hope you are enjoying your weekend everyone! No question today just some thoughts from Mulan ….

Some days I hate technology ... like right now :furious: Either my computer or the Dis wasn't cooperating with me and it took me like 5 times to get the photos and info into the post! That was after a double post of my previous post as it didn't appear so I redid it then there was 2!

Breathe .... ok so all done finally :-) Oh but I have no idea why it seems to be showing the attached files box at the bottom of the post o_O

Because of my frustration I almost totally forgot something very important ....

To our friend @courtneybeth ... hope you have a wonderful day and get spoilt like you deserve (but I am not sure how you top Club 33 last weekend lol)

Yeah at that point it's all downhill from there right? :P

Thank you so much for wishing me a great birthday! We are heading back to Disneyland to celebrate with breakfast at steakhouse 55 then doing a day st the parks. It'll be one of our last trips until our pass expires (we have three trips left!) - then the sadness kicks in!

But no sadness. It's been a wonderful birthday week. Club 33,Disneyland and then we saw my future husband Patton Oswalt perform at a local comedy club.

It’s the weekend – yippee!
As weekends can be time for adventure let’s hear from one of our most adventurous Princess’s … Mulan.

View attachment 195304

The Mulan story is based on a poem titled Ballad of Mulan. Mulan’s name was Hua Mulan. It is not certain when she lived but it is thought to have been during the Northern Wei Dynasty, which lasted from 386CE to 534CE. In the poem Hua Mulan was skilled with using weapons, riding horses and shooting arrows, the region in which she lived was known for practicing martial arts such as kung fu and sword use. There was no boy child in her family and she volunteered to join the army to spare her elderly father from doing so. According to legend she fought for 12 years and was offered 12 ranks during that time to reward her battle skills. In the end she turned down a title offered due to her battle prowess and returned to her family and quiet life. Disney’s version of Mulan was released in 1998, they added Mushu the dragon, and had Mulan learning her skills rather than already being skilled in them.

Asia is well known for many martial arts some include – Aikido, Hapkido, Judo Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Krav Maga, Kung Fu, Mixed Martial Arts, Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do and Tai Chi. I did some reading and some of the top 5 best health benefits from doing martial arts are: total body workout, stress relief, reaching and maintaining a healthy weight, self-defence skills and improved self-confidence.
QOTD: Have you ever practiced a martial art? If yes – tell us about it – if no do you think you would ever try one – and which one?
Bonus: What adventures are you up to this weekend?

And a bonus that I just thought was funny …..

I've never done martial arts and don't think I'll be taking any up. Fun story though, during one WDW trip I had lunch at Brown Derby and there was a party table at the far end of the main floor. My waiter said it was the wrap party for the Mulan voice actors. At one point John Stamos stood up and did a little speech to the group.

Nothing spectacular planned for the weekend. Yesterday was errands early and knitting later. We had rain yesterday and the first wind storm, it was kind of awesome. Today I take the ferry back over to Vashon Island to get the next part of my tatoo done.

Happy Sunday everyone.

Thanks for the warm welcome ! My goals for the rest of the month 1) 10,000 steps per day 2) be accountable and track all food and water and 3) move more, in general - look for other things besides just sitting and vegging out.

That's where I am too. Got my fitbit a few weeks ago and am really sticking to the 10k step minimum and tracking my food.

Rainy day here. Hoping it clears by the evening, as I want to get in my first run of the week (made it to week 6!). DD is down with a low-grade fever so we're chilling and watching a movie this afternoon. She's doing better today than yesterday - lined up my mom to watch her for an hour tomorrow while I go to work if necessary, but hoping she's better this afternoon and can go to school tomorrow!

Happy Birthday @courtneybeth!! Hope breakfast at Steakhouse 55 is going to be delicious and worth the calories!

Loving all the Mulan quotes! I really need to rewatch that movie!

Went out when the rain stopped for a brief while to get my steps in for the day. Then I was horribly hungry and just had my dinner very early... Not sure how this is going to work out. Also had a few too many of some delicious dark chocolate sticks that I picked up thinking those would be perfect tiny treats. I still did ok though, the damage was not too big since they are indeed tiny. Might need to brave the rain again later today.

I mange to wash my curtains today. What a difference that makes!! Now I still need to change bed linens and hopefully then will sleep perfectly in my nice smelling bed room tonight! I have been doing very well with getting to bed at 10pm and switching of the light by 10:30pm. It really feels great and I sleep so much better! Need to keep it up to hopefully make it a habit again. Thanks @4Mickeys for that challenge!

I ate my burned calories most day so in balance, 15000 steps daily, went to the gym twice. I felt the need to eat more this week and was happy to do so

I will try to cut down, little bit only next week but happy with that. I would like to spend little less time on the couch & tv & laptop

Happy Birthday Courtneybeth

Flossybolna, I have been struggling with the rain and end of summer. The really tasty watermelon is gone so I decided to replace my blender today to get my freshness fix in the winter. I am feeling sad that the summer is gone, even with holiday next month and its' getting darker earlier already

Rained most of the day today.

Yes, I like winter, but somehow this summer was over too quickly. And I hear you on the daylight! This weekend was just soooo dreary. Next week should be better again here in Germany. I think you live in a place that has far more rain than my home though, so I should not complain!

I'm going to weigh in tomorrow - I ran today and didn't weigh myself until after, but those numbers are always skewed so I'll wait... but I think/hope I'll still be in the 1's and no longer in the 2's!!!

The run didn't go so well. Hit the wall around mile 7 or 8. Was able to get through 10.5 miles and got physically ill. Luckily I didn't start throwing up until I was home, but it wasn't pleasant. Another reason why I'll use my weigh in numbers from tomorrow!

We lost again on Friday. We are not playing well and I don't know why - very frustrating. Saturday we went to Disney on Ice which was great and it really took my mind off of the game. We ate lunch outside with a view of the state capital. It was just a nice day with my three favorite people. I love my family.

Started feeling better in the afternoon and I washed the car and mowed the lawn today. Had dinner at my parents tonight and I'm not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. I might need to take a mental health day this week!

Happy birthday @courtneybeth!!!

Maybe. We had only one proper winter since 2001 (2010) and don't even get snow in the winters so they are somewhat mild but it can happen to rain all day for days. Glad I have the new gym, but with DH away in Europe from Monday to Friday so often, I won't get many opportunities to visit

Have a super healthy and successful week All! I seem to be up first so may I propose a Monday feel good question that you don't need to answer here unless you really want to

5 things you did awesome last week? or 5 reasons you are awesome

Recall the story from Tony Robbins audio. People that see themselves as better than they really are actually did better long term as they felt encouraged compared to people with a lot of self doubt. With that thought give yourself some love and appreciation and let's all have a smashing week!
