Princess Power - September 2016 Weight Loss and Lifestyle Change Challenge

The Wicked Queen is a woman not coping well with the ageing process that we all go through. She let her envy of Snow’s youth, with hair dark as night, skin white as snow and lips of ruby red and heart of kindness get the better of her.

We are all at different ages and stages here in our group but of course we have all been younger than we are now. Changing hair colour and texture, skin complexion, wrinkles and dare I say it .... sagging happens to the best of us at some stage and of course is affected by our lifestyle….

QOTD: When you gaze into the mirror do you wonder where that fairer image of yourself has gone? How are you coping with the changes ageing brings to both your body and your health?

Maybe you are fairest of all right now! Tell us if you think so…

Bonus Question: Rather than attempting to kill the younger fairest of them all in your land like the Wicked Queen, what are you doing to combat the ageing process? Share your ‘magic secrets’…
Extra Bonus Question: As we move on from Snow White today …. Have you seen any of the modern remakes of Snow White such as ‘Mirror Mirror’ or ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’? Tell us what you think of these movies?

The hair is gone and the beard has lots of grey in it these days... not much I can do about those things so I don't worry much about it. Body wise, I'm approaching a weight I haven't been since my sophomore year in high school, so not a lot to complain about! I do see a lot of the damage that I caused over the past 25 years of being overweight regarding skin. I have a lot of loose skin that I won't be able to do much about - I guess that will be a reminder to me of what I've done and what I don't want to do again.

I've been out of touch because of the long weekend, but I just caught up. Congrats to the runners this weekend! You ladies are awesome!

I'm feeling a little disappointed in the weight department -- a few too many treats and cocktails this weekend. But still high on Disney magic, so I'm forgiving myself. It was one of the most magical trips we have ever had, so I am all sunshine and pixie dust today!

Oh mannnnnn..... Love/Hate relationship with the mirror for sure. Some days, I am plain disgusted. But others (and these are becoming more and more frequent as I work on self-love), I see positives that out weigh my weight (pun slightly intended). Sometimes I see old pictures that shock me and remind me how much I have grown up and aged (and gained) in the past 7 years. But I am trying not to focus on the past. No use looking back -- I will never be as young as I am today, so I'm wearing what I want (within reason) because I know the time will come when I won't.

I'm also learning just how much is mental -- I'm surprised at how even though I haven't lost as much weight as I would have liked to by now, when I'm truly happy, the camera captures that and the weight doesn't seem to matter as much. Again, this could just be me high on Disney pixie dust right now, but even this weekend-- I am in love with so many photos we took that I was shocked that I wasn't more shocked at what they looked like. Now there were some gross ones for sure, but still, I'm shocked at how many I did not consider gross if that makes sense.

I'm behind because of the long weekend and not logging in here as Disboards App isn't as friendly as the website... My house gets done when I have visitors, that's it. Other than that I can totally live in the chaos of a cluttered home. Fortunately, my BF is a busy body neat freak. He knows I am the exact opposite, but he's okay with it. His mantra is, don't sweat the petty stuff and if it's important to him to pick everything up immediately, he'll just do it and not hold a grudge... I must hold my own in other areas of the relationship ;)

This made me laugh out loud! This is soooooo me! DH and I have a similar arrangement. His one thing is he can't stand the kitchen being dirty or messy, so that's officially his domain to clean. I traded him the kitchen for the whole rest of the house. Which pretty much gets done when we have company, but he doesn't have to worry about it which makes him happy. His other deal breaker was a dirty floor. So we bought a Roomba. Best money I ever spent and now I'm working on him to get the mopping robot Haha!

Getting caught up on this thread. Congrats to all the DL half runners!!!!! Sounds like it was a fun weekend with decent weather!

Camping was great. Got plenty of activity in all three days so I'm happy with that. Not happy with my eating but thats how it usually goes at camping. So anyway, back home and back on track!

The mirror: I have good days and bad. I don't wear a lot of make up and I know wearing more would probably help me look less tired but for the most part it doesn't bother me too much. The grey hair is the one that drives me crazy. Its especially bad around my hair line. In fact I'm getting my roots touched up tonight and after that I'll be much happier!

QOTD: What is your weekend housecleaning routine, do you go it alone or do you have some little helpers like Snow’s animal friends? Or are you lucky enough to have a fairy godmother that does some or most of the housework for you?

How many calories do you think you will burn on housework this weekend or are you taking it easy - I thought somebody on here said it was a long weekend?

Just as Snow taught us music helps us work faster and can make it more enjoyable …..

Do you throw on some music and crank it up while working? What is your favorite housework soundtrack?

We do most of our cleaning on the weekends. Our I should say my husband does most of it. I tend to be out running with the kids. He has been mentioning to me that he just can't do it all anymore so I have been really trying to help. I have changed my schedule at work so i now get of 30 minutes earlier. This way I can help more with dinner and homework. I have also been helping more with dishes however he usually has them done before I finish eating dinner. I swear i am the slowest eater. Also, he wants things done a certain way. If i load the dishwasher in a different way he just rearranges them. He has gotten better with this one but laundry is a whole different subject. I haven't done it since we moved in together 13 years ago. He washes everything a very specific way and in a very specific order. I have tried to help and then he gets mad because I put the kids clothes in before the towels. So it is best if I stay away.

The weekends are crazy with grocery, karate, vision therapy, cleaning, family time and now helping my husbands grandma sell her house. We try to get it all done on Saturday with the exception of maybe laundry. We can't miss football on Sunday.

If I am doing a lot of cleaning I will listen to music but I have to complete with my husbands and kids as well. As for helpers I have 2 kids that are starting to help. They mainly only have to help clean the living room and there own rooms but we will ask them to help with the bathroom and dishes too.

This is me before yoga class (bodybalance), age 38 I was surprised I can still do the sitting lotus position

You look great!!!!

The Poison Apple! It looks so deep red, big, juicy and delicious that Snow just can’t resist taking a big bite that causes her to fall unconscious.
So let’s talk about food that is deceiving …. Those foods that we think are healthy but are deceiving us. Look at the Evil Queen in disguise waiting for her to eat it … I got to thinking she could be a representation of the modern food manufacturers that are filling our foods with hidden sugars, additives, food colourings etc. that are part of the cause of some of our modern day health and weight issues.
What foods have you eaten or are still eating that we typically think of as healthy but have hidden poisons (eg. Sugar, calories etc) in them??
Bonus question: What alternative have you replaced that ‘poison’ food with?

I used to eat a lot from a box. My husband is not a fan so I have switched to eating more fresh foods. I make mashed potatoes instead of instant for example. Pasta might be my biggest issue. I always thought it was healthy until I started to track my calories. I love paste. My great-grandfather and great grandmother came over on the boat to America from Italy. Pasta was a staple growing up because of it. Also, it goes a long way and is cheap to make (we make our own sauce) when you grow up in a family with very little money. A pot of spaghetti would be like 3+ meals in my family of 5. As I have learned it is not the best I have cut back on it. I don't make it as much and try to limit how much I eat at a time.

I am slowly seeing a difference. I got luck and got really good genes. I am 37 but people still think I am in my 20's. I have seen a few grey hairs lately but I dye my hair every once in awhile. I just did a few weeks ago and I went out of the box from what i am used too but I love it. I have gotten more compliments in the last week about my hair then I ever have. It has only taken me 37 years too to figure out how to do my hair. I am leaving it down more too.

I have seen all of them and can't wait to see the new one coming out. If I remember correctly it is a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman. I loved them all too.

**********

I think I have finally learned how to use the multi quotes. YAY!!!!

This weekend was really busy. We went to the Cleveland Orchestra again at Blossom (an out door venue). This time they showed the move Indiana Jones and the last Arc and when the music played in the movie the orchestra played. It was really cool. We also had a picnic on Sunday. This picnic was with a group of my step-dads friends and family that he grew up with. I have gone to this picnic since I was like 3 or 4. It was said to see my step-dads friends parents this year. They are the nicest people but are now almost 90 I think. Mr. Taylor doesn't remember anyone anymore and was just not his normal self but it was still good to see them. Yesterday was a day of running around. I went to 4 stores trying to find a sketch book for my son's art class and still can't find one. My daughter came with me so we should have had about the same step count so I thought (she got a fitbit type of a step counter. It was from Justice and a little more kids/girly then Fibit) We looked at her steps at the end of the day and she had 18,000 and I had almost 7,000. That kicked me into gear and I finally got 10,000 steps last night for the first time in about 2 weeks. This week I will be back on track.

Congrats to the DL runners! Love the costumes :) (sorry, I'm too brain-fried to multi-quote today)

Survived my first day of work. Well, 3 hours of it. Met all my colleagues. Tomorrow the kids come and I actually teach. Plus, my babies go off to school... middle school & 3rd grade. I'm really feeling overwhelmed!

I'm in the same situation mentioned before - DH and I have been together for over 20 years, married for almost 15, so we're "aging gracefully" together ;) He has a lot less hair than when we started dating!

Ok - I did some quick likes - I started adding quotes to reply my computer is not cooperating at the moment - it won't highlight properly and it is taking waaaay too long! So I - will dash off to work and reply to all and add my thoughts this afternoon.

Have a great evening everyone!

Another great question! I guess with me, it depends on the day. Some days I look in the mirror and all I see are the gray hairs (that need updated color), chubby cheeks and wrinkles. Other days, I feel like I can see progress in my weight loss and it gives me a lift. Some days I feel like I don't look different at all from when I started losing weight. I'm not sure if it's my mood or what, but I need to focus more on the positive.

I really don't do much as far as combating the aging process. I'll probably regret it later.

Bonus question - as many movies as we see, I have not seen either of the modern Snow White movies. I'll have to put them on my list!

Well my computer seems to have woken up this afternoon and I am happily able to highlight and quote again :D

I lightened up I guess, looking after your mind and heart, having more fun and eating healthy helped me this year. I feel ok. Like I don't look in the mirror and think of myself as the fairest of all but I do view myself as myself again

After the challenging time you have had with DH I am so glad you are starting to feel like yourself again

My house gets done when I have visitors,

hehe this is a little me - especially if it is an impromptu visit - then I am racing around like a crazy person stashing it in my room out of sight.

As for snacks - the big move I've made in the last year or so is from pre-processsed yogurts to simply using a plain yogurt or greek plain yogurt and mixing some sugar free preserves in for taste

I think this needs to be my next move with yoghurt.

Obviously being in my (URGH!) 50's means that my face and skin isn't quite as glowing and and bright and elastic as it was years ago..... and add two pregnancies and breastfeeding two children and losing nearly 90 pounds to that... well, let's just say my mid-section (especially) isn't what it could be, should be, or used to be!! Sure, any decent plastic surgeon could definitely make some great changes, but I've never been under anesthesia and I'm not about to try it for the first time just for the sake of VANITY! Same goes for a face-lift.... I think I could definitely use one.... but safety outweighs vanity. One reason I stopped running was because I read a few studies about what running can do to a sagging face.... one comment was "don't run until they invent a bra for your face." That was all I needed to hear!! That being said.... running keeps your INSIDES to healthy.... if I loved it I wouldn't have let that comment stop me! But I didn't love it.... I tolerated it.

Oh @pjlla sorry for brining up your sore point! - You make me laugh - I love that photo you posted - but I'm with you as much as there would be some things that sound good I just don't see my having surgery for it - what if it ended up worse??!! eeekk.

I had such a good time on my first solo trip. My friend from North Dakota was able to meet me there and I was super excited to see her. It was a nonstop weekend. went pretty good. The 10k was awesome I felt so good the entire time. It was fun to run into @courtneybeth on the course and chat for a minute. I finished only 3 minutes slower than my PR, I was happy with that considering I was holding back because I still had to run the half. My half was a different story I went out way too fast and couldn't maintain it. I started to struggle but then I got to the stadium and that gave me so much energy. At mile 11 things starting going downhill. I hit the wall at mile 12 and missed my PR by 5 mins. Considering all that I did this weekend I don't think that was too bad. And I actually lost 1.5 lbs. So I am at 30% of my goal.

So glad you got some me time doing something you enjoy and with friends! I also like your Wicked Queen costume the best and for some reason I think you look younger in that one ;)

To be honest, I am not trying that hard to combat the aging process

I don't do anywhere near as much as I should either - its either time or money that holds me back! I prioritise other things.

And somehow the arm that has the tattoo looks about 10 years younger than the other... It's my "cool kid" arm. I'm just a couple weeks away from getting the rest done. Yah!

Also - sorry for poking your sensitivity - I think you are looking pretty good! And about that younger arm - well now you need to get one on the other arm so it doesn't feel left out! :rotfl:

The hair is gone and the beard has lots of grey in it these days... not much I can do about those things so I don't worry much about it. Body wise, I'm approaching a weight I haven't been since my sophomore year in high school, so not a lot to complain about! I just love having you in our thread @DrGunnie - the male perspective is awesome! It gives me a reminder not to over worry about things I can't do a whole lot about. I do have to say the idea of extra skin worries me some days too (not that I am any where near your success with weight loss).

I will never be as young as I am today, so I'm wearing what I want (within reason) because I know the time will come when I won't.

Loving this attitude!

when I'm truly happy, the camera captures that and the weight doesn't seem to matter as much. Now there were some gross ones for sure, but still, I'm shocked at how many I did not consider gross if that makes sense.

I completely understand what you mean! I feel the same way about our DL trip photos - for some reason instead of the weight I see

I don't wear a lot of make up and I know wearing more would probably help me look less tired but for the most part it doesn't bother me too much. The grey hair is the one that drives me crazy. Its especially bad around my hair line. In fact I'm getting my roots touched up tonight and after that I'll be much happier!

My grey hair drives me crazy too ... I'm naturally dark brown so when it comes through it is soooo noticeable - I have slowly been lightening the brown colour I use and will move towards highlights soon - but dread to cost of the maintenance when I do that - at the moment I can do it myself at home.

I am leaving it down more too.

enjoy those compliments - you deserve them! I have been dying/highlight my hair since my teens - I think I damaged it lol and that is part of the reason I'm so grey.

Survived my first day of work. Well, 3 hours of it. Met all my colleagues. Tomorrow the kids come and I actually teach. Plus, my babies go off to school... middle school & 3rd grade. I'm really feeling overwhelmed!

Glad you made it through the day - you got this!

Another great question! I guess with me, it depends on the day. Some days I look in the mirror and all I see are the gray hairs (that need updated color), chubby cheeks and wrinkles. I really don't do much as far as combating the aging process. I'll probably regret it later.

I get this - I think I have tunnel vision when it comes to looking in the mirror these days - I avoid seeing what I don't want to!

Well getting that last post up was painful! Just when I commented my computer was cooperating .... it slowed down and then the Dis shut down on me - it does every time around the same time for an hour - but I didn't realise it was so late when I started  So I though I had lost it all  but then I just logged back it and it sitting there almost exactly where I had gotten to :yay:

So for me I guess I am going OK with the process it could be much better but it could be worse too. Some people tell me I look younger than my age 43 - most days I don't feel it though. I definitely could be doing more to combat it. Apart from the changes in my body I have been experiencing some health changes such as blood pressure creeping up and warnings about diabetes risk factors. I am in Aussie in Queensland - known as the Sunshine State - and I now live at the beach - growing up worshipping the sun in summer - back in my day (oh see way to sound old) having a fantastic tan was the goal - remember those coconut oil suntan lotions lol - hell some days we would just lather on some baby oil and bake our selves! I do have pretty good skin though but have some brown spots on my face - and you know I still am not fantastic at remembering to slip, slop slap (that's an Aussie slogan - not sure if your familiar with it) slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat lol - well I do put the shirt on as I have gotten bigger, and I am getting better with slapping on a hat (especially by DL cap) but I still struggle with sunscreen! I feel far from the fairest in the land most days and just wish I had appreciated the days I was so much more.

Maybe you’re more like Cinderella …..
Cinderella is a story well known in many countries around the world and it is a story that is featured in the folklore of many cultures. There are apparently up to 1500 different versions of the story! Would you believe this story originated in Egypt in the first century? Rhodopis (Cinderella) was a Greek girl who became an Egyptian slave, the other slaves did not like her, and so she befriended animals. One day she found herself in fancy shoes in the Pharaoh’s court; whom she married by decree of the Gods. The next recorded version was found in China written in the middle of the nineth century. Instead of a Fairy Godmother there was a magical fish and it was a golden shoe that led the Prince to her. It was French author, Charles Perrault, who introduced the pumpkin carriage, animal servants and glass slippers in his version titled ‘Cendrillon’ that we are familiar with today and that Disney based its movie. Cinderella’s ball gown was reportedly based on a Dior design.
I’m sure Cinderella would have been woohooing that her Fairy Godmother appeared and helped her get to the ball! It’s that day of the week where we focus our positive thoughts and celebrate successes – nothing is too big or too small … it doesn't even have to be healthy life related share your weeks woohoo moments and we will help you celebrate :woohoo::cool1:

Morning all! I'm in the last hour of a 3 hour morning shift. I begged off of my school job today. I hate to do it as every penny counts, but I've got just TOO MUCH on my plate today.... not to mention I'm not packed yet and I have another online shift tonight! DD is absolutely SLAMMED trying to get her homework done and getting ready for this trip, including getting a presentation ready for the conference. So I want to be sure that I have time to leave here EARLY tomorrow to help her with anything last minute.... it is the best I can do to try and help her stress level, as I obviously cannot do her homework or go to class for her.

I ran a bunch of errands yesterday to return a PILE of stuff that had been building up and to take one more trip to the consignment/resale shop to try and earn some trip cash. I came home with nearly $32 cash from returns and $20 cash from the resale shop.... plus a whopping 67 cents from the metal recycler! I also got a bunch of credit back on all of my credit cards with returns to Target, Old Navy, Payless Shoes, etc.

I ran out of time and still have a Goodwill return and a Kohl's return, but I also need to stock up a few grocery items for DH to have while I'm gone, so I'll be running out again today. Wish I didn't have to, as I don't feel like I really have the time (we live about 30+ minutes for all of those stores) but I don't want to leave it.... plus Goodwill only has a one week return policy.

My "101 things to do before Thursday 9/8" list is looking pretty good, but the things left on it were all "A" priority.... so I don't know why they are still there!! And to be absolutely honest, it doesn't have 101 things on it.... but it may by the end of the day!! Some are quick things (pay all of the credit card bills) and some of time consuming (deep clean the master bathroom).... but they WILL get done!

Okay.... 24 minutes left of my morning shift.... things have been more lively than usual this morning, so I haven't folded the basket of laundry yet, as I intended. Time to get moving... and time for more coffee!........P

ETA: Adding my woohoo here (forgot it was woohoo Wednesday!).... WOOHOO.... I leave for California in about 24 hours!! And I weighed in for my WW job last night (and I was below goal ;) ), so I am good for the month!!!!!

My errands have been piling up! My brother gave me a bunch of stuff to ebay / yardsale (he works on my cars so this is a trade-off). But I have been really bad about getting the stuff out of my house. My aunt is having a yardsale tomorrow and I haven't even gotten the stuff to her! It's going to be a last minute jaunt to her house tomorrow morning on the way to work. Ugh.

As far as WOOT... I can't top a trip to California, have fun!!! Probably most excited to go inline skating at the local rink tonight. They were closed last week for renovations, and after a month of running, my legs are much stronger and I really missed it. We'll have a blast tonight! Funny, skating at a rink sounds so juvenile and yet, if you saw the eclectic bunch out there you would change your mind. Oddly enough lots of older men - one looks like a member of ZZ Top, and he's really good. Another is a woman in a wheelchair and her significant other skates her around the rink... There is even a guy in his 70s = he's there every Wednesday - even has a bowling shirt that says "Old Geezer". He skates the rink with a wheeled 'walker' made of PVC piping. Apparently, he used to be a professional skater!! Now if that doesn't make you realize age is just a number, I don't know what will!

Woohoo Wednesday! I'm focusing on celebrating the tiniest of victories this week because that's where I'm at in this season of life. I spent the entire day Monday on plan in spite of being home for a holiday. Yesterday, things fell apart but it's a new day today. Yesterday, I didn't veg on my couch and watch TV all night. Instead, I listened to music, meditated for a little bit, and even got up and connected my laptop to the monitor. Unfortunately, that's as far as I got but the victory is that I got started. This morning I brought my gym bag to work. I had great success in going straight to the gym but stopped when my ex wanted to go to the gym with me. And then I never got back into going immediately after work and instead was going after I got home. But it's starting to get easy to waver again. So back to the grind!

I have a few Woohoo's and 2 not so much of woohoo's.

Woohoo
1. My daughter had her 9 week check for her eyes to see how she is improving. Good news is she has really improved and is on track to be done at the end of October.
2. I got to see my cousin from San Deigo last night. I have not seen her for 3 years. My Aunt (her mom) lives in Michigan so she does get to Ohio often and I don't get to Michigan much at all.She just had a baby so it was nice to hold a baby again.
3. I have gotten at least 40 squats a day and my 10,000 steps each day this week.

My not so Woohoo 's
1. Work has been giving me a lot of stress. I found out today that I was supposed to doing something a different way then I have been for the last 7 years. it is not a huge deal but the change is going to add time to the process and time is not what I have right now. There are a few there stuff but I am trying to let go of what I can not control and not doing the work my co-worker is supposed to do. It is time to let her sink or swim. She was brought on to help me because we have expanded so much put she has not done that. I am still doing the majority of the work.
2. My grandfather took a picture of me last night with my cousins and I look bigger then I have. I do not like the way I looked in the picture. I need to really get to work on this. I was almost in tears seeing this. I have decided that I am going to use this picture as a reminded of what I do not want to look like and when I start to fall of the wagon I will just at the picture.

Woohoo Wednesday. Hopefully today is just a Wednesday and not a Wednesday/Monday, to make up for the holiday, because Tuesday/Monday yesterday was plenty.

Over the weekend of purging and reorganizing I spent quite a bit of time in my craft room, so I can transition it to a proper sewing room. There's still work to be done, but yesterday my new dress form came and the room was cleared out enough that I had a nice space to set her up. Later this week a sewing table is coming, the kind that folds up when not in use which is perfect for the space. I am so excited, no more crawling around on the floor or having fabric drape over the edges of the table while trying to cut things out. And I'll be able to fit patterns instead of just guessing.

My other woohoo is that yesterday after all my complaining about getting old I finally remembered to call the hair salon to see how long it would be till I could get in to see the gal who used to do my color 3 years ago... She had just had a cancelation and I was able to take a long lunch and get some low lights put in yesterday! I'm really happy with it, and to not be glow in the dark white any longer.

My juice cleanse will be there when I get home tonight. I've decided to start on Friday so that the worst days fall on the weekend and I can avoid people as much as possible during the "kill all the things" phase. It'll be better for everyone...

Woohoo Wednesday items worth celebrating:
- No weekly check-in with my boss this morning. WOOHOO.
- I can finally walk again. The muscle soreness from this weekend has subsided. WOOHOO.
- Club 33 this weekend (SATURDAY OMG). WOOHOO.
- My project at work just reached the 75% completed threshold. WOOHOO.

My woo hoo for the day is that my hair looks great! So glad I had it colored last night! My other woo hoo is that tonight is paint nite with the girls at my work! I can't wait to destress with them a bit and get some girl time in! The painting we're doing is of the Golden Gate bridge. Im sure it will look terrible but its still going to be fun!

I've been trying to think of something to celebrate all day and can't think of anything woohoo worthy... not that anything is bad right now, but just can't think of a good woohoo.

As lame as it sounds, we got some new football equipment in today that I'm excited to use in practice. That's about all I got right now... well, that and we are making hamburgers tonight for dinner. WOOHOO!

I know, I live a wild and crazy life!

I REALLY need to color my hair!! I was trying to wait until closer to our trip, but I've got a halo of white that just makes my hair look even thinner, I don't think I can wait. I LOVE paint nites!!! We're doing one in October - I got in early because I know the Halloween themed ones fill up fast. We're doing this crow one, it'll make for great Halloween decor!!
