Princess 1/2 2013...anyone else???

Joining in!

I have just started training for the 2013 princess half with my sister and hopefully getting some friends on board! It will be my first big race. Celebrating my graduation from college with the race!!

hrk md- PF is an inflammation of sorts of the bands on your feet that connect the heel to the ball of the foot. It's painful with any sort of pressure, worse in the morning, and all around just annoying for me at this point. I've iced and stretch but I think it's just time. I was reading that most people are better in a few MONTHS. MONTHS?!?! Luckily we have some time, but it's frustrating. I was going to try biking, but I'm a little worried it will make it worse. :confused3

2013 Princesses,

Just wanted to check in and let you know you can do this!:thumbsup2

I started running May of 2012 my first 5k was June 2012- my goal was just to run the whole race and finish in under 35 min- I ran the whole race and finished in 32.48! My next goals was a few more 5ks and a 4miler on the 4th of July- then I heard about the Princess 1/2 and signed up in October with the goal of running my first 10k in St. Augustine so I could submit a time for corral placement- My first 10k was amazing, I pr'ed(personal record) at 1 mile,5k mark and at 4 miles and finished with a time of 56.28! Training was going well and then 3 weeks before the princess i injured my right foot:scared1:- still not sure what I did to it but I recomend not doing anything new exercise wise that close to the race- I was doing a spin class that week for the first time-I know that it at least did not help and may have caused the problem.

I wanted to run the princess no matter so I rested the foot and ran with out training for 3 weeks- It was:wizard:amazing! Mile 11-12 was the toughest and I won't go into to many details so as to not spoil it for you all. I will say this I stopped for a few pictures to rest the foot and took pictures of every mile marker except 13- got swept up in the moment of finishing and simply forgot. I finished in 2.28.48 and hope to stay injury free for 2013 and PR in under 2 hrs. I've lost 40 lbs since starting this journey and when I started running did not know about couch to 5k or galloway programs or even this side of the board- (im usually on the cruiseDCL boards) I literally trained myself and ran mailbox to mailbox till I could do 1 mile then I added a 1/2 mile at a time till I could do 3.1 miles. My 12yr old son and I run together every Saturday with his Jr. Running club after I run with "the big kids" .

There will be setbacks, injuries, times when life gets in the way of training, and times when you simply don't know why you are even doing this- I'm here to tell you you can- I did it! and now I proudly where a tshirt that says just that!:cool1::cool1:

What an inspirational group already! Who knows what all we will accomplish this coming year!

I'm in my training now. I have my first 5K in April and I'm so looking forward to it. I now can reach 3 miles in 40.36 mins.

Hey, I know you! I've been reading about your progress on fb - you go, girl! Won't it be fun to meet at next year's Princess?

Since I'm late to this board, I might be saying something you've already tried but here goes....I had a painful case of PF a few years ago. I have flat feet and read somewhere online that PF would be less painful if I wore shoes all the time, even at home. I bought some clogs to replace my slippers and got some better tennis shoes. Amazingly enough, the PF went away. Is that something you've tried already?

To be honest, I do get worried that an injury could derail what little progress I've made so far and make me not want to go back. Congratulations to you for sticking with your training.

You are truly an inspiration!!!! :worship::worship::worship: I've been so encouraged reading about the 2012 Princesses...thank you for your boost of confidence!

I was a little sad that I missed this year's Princess after having done it for the past two years. I'm definitely planning to do it again next year. Anyone know if Disney has set a date for it yet?

Just wanted to say how wonderful I think these posts are - so positive and uplifting!

PHM weekend is Feb 22 - 24th in 2013!! Perfect weekend.. right between President's day and Mardi Gras so the crowds shouldn't be too bad!

I will be joining all of you for the 1/2 in 2013. I've been running for a couple of months now and I'm getting really excited! Definitely gives me a reason to keep going. See you all next year!!

Happy Mom- Wow that is a pretty big surgery to be recovering from. Hope that you are feeling better and that you have had a chance to get moving again.:yay:

Vicki- Wow you are an old hand at this. Do you follow a certain program in between runs that helps you maintain your progress? I will be running a local half in April so I am training for that but then want to maintain after that.

MickeyMom-that is great that your family is involved. I run with my DH when I can and my two boys will ride their bikes with us.

NC State- Congrats on your progress.

Beffney- What a great way to celebrate your accomplishment. Where are you graduating from?

Two boysnmygirl-
How are the feet doing? Any of the tips from other posters helping?

CruizinMama- Wow your story is awesome. I hope that you are able to run the next one injury free, although I have heard that Disney runs are not the times to try for PR's because of all the stops along the way- is that true?

cukal6- welcome

Well DH and I did 9 miles last week and were able to maintain a very consistent pace. Did a pace run of 4 miles on Tuesday and came in at under a 10 min/mile pace which is the fastest we have done yet. Did an easy 3 on the TM yesterday as it was pouring here and I have an interval run for this afternoon. This weekend is a recovery week so we are back to 7 for our long run, which is OK with me since I will be running it on my birthday,:cheer2: which is Sunday. I can't wait to be running the Princess next year before my birthday.:wizard:
Happy March,
Heather

Heather,
you can PR if you don't plan to stop for pictures and such- I only stopped this time because of the foot issues and when the lines were non exsistant- there are pacers out on the course with balloons and signs like 2hrs or 2.15 which means if you are ahead of them or keep pace with them that is the pace you'll finish at- This was my first 1/2 and first Disney Race, I could have been under 2 had it not been for the foot and unable to train my last 3 weeks so I really think I can do it- next year is all business on the course!

Heather--In the past for the DL 1/2 DH and I just try and run/walk a couple of times a week followed by a longer run on the weekend. For the Tink 1/2 I kept up on my running and followed the Jeff Galloway training program he had for the Tinker Bell 1/2. That really helped me keep my running consistent and on track. Finding time to run is the hard part since we have a preschooler at home.
For the DL 1/2 this year I'm going to follow the DL 1/2 training program time "goal for time improvement" (Jeff Galloway) and work that program.

It sounds like your putting in the miles and getting a few runs in during the week. Good job!!

Just completed the 2012 Princess Half Marathon. It was my first Disney race. I loved every moment. Planning to do the Coast to Coast in 2012 using Tink and Princess.

I just completed my first half marathon last week during Princess weekend and I will definatley be there again next year. Last year I couldnt even run 1/4 mile and I finished the race in under 3 hours. This was my first outside run, I did all my training on a treadmill.

Just keep at it and you will be able to finish next year!!

Hey y'all! Well, I *think* my SIL and I are going to commit to running the 2013 Princess 1/2! I'm excited... :cheer2: And terrified! :eek:I've always been athletic, playing sports through high school and college, but I've always HATED running. So what do I do? decide to run a half marathon! :rotfl2:

My SIL is already ahead of me, having started running right after her son was born in June of last year. My DD was born in September of last year... But I have yet to do much in the working out department (aside from our walks). I think this is just the motivation I need though. I just hope I can do it, and not re-injure any of my old basketball injuries!

So, here's to an AWESOME year of training and the search for the perfect tiara, because you better believe we'll be rocking them as we run! princess:

I'm in for 2013. Last weekend was AMAZING - totally worth every minute of training and every dollar of expense. :thumbsup2

I agree with Shelley...totally in and hoping to shave at least an hour off my time (only trained for 6 weeks this run...)

I'm in also. I started running in Feb. of last year, and just ran the Princess Half this year as my first ever race (I meant to do a local 5K or something over last year and it just never happened.) My time was a little over three hours, so I hope to shave at least 1/2 hour off of my time, if not more. Seems like 2:30 would be a good time. Experienced runners, is that about right? The lady who won is safe with her 1:18 time. I am in no danger of beating HER. :)

thats me exactly! I'd much rather walk than run, so i have to change my mindset. right now i'm still in my walking phase, trying to move up to running soon. I'm terrified too!
