Hello. In 2001 when my husband and I stayed at YC for the first time we ended up with a lovely room with a waterview right near the elevator. (I was 32 weeks pregnant and they gave us a room with very little walking.) One night we were kept awake by some very rude loud people partying in their room, (lock off next to us.) It wasn't until I called the FD 2 times and asked someone to come up that they calmed down some. They even ignored us knocking on the door and asking them to quite down.

Then the next night there were drunk people running up and down the halls yelling in Japanese at 2:00 in the morning.

I have some patience for excited children who can't wait to get to see Mickey and run down the resort coridors at 7:00 in the morning, but not drunk adults.

It seems that being so close to the bars people took real advantage of not haivng to drive home and were very rude.

My quesitons for other DVC members is have you found there is more courtesy and respect for others being in a DVC resort and a family enviorment? (or can I expect more of the same? )

Thanks.

Phew!!!...at least I know it wasn't me, as I don't speak Japanese...:teeth:...just kidding!

I have never had this problem in either the villas, or the hotel resorts. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, and hopefully it is a one time event.

Good luck...

I think that people who are inconsiderate and rude will be rude anywhere regardless of ownership. In some cases ownership may make some people feel more entitled to do what they want.

Having said that I try to keep in mind that while on vacation people are out to have a good time - that doesn't ever excuse rude and outrageous behavior, but it may be a little louder than usual. Part of why we love WDW is all the great cocktail locations - owning DVC doesn't really play into what we do or how we act when we're there. We go to have fun and try to be as courteous as possible no matter where we are.

IMO there is a big difference in having fun and yelling from 2 to 4 in the morning in a building where a hundred other people are trying to sleep in a room they are playing 300 dollars a night for (did I mention I was 32 weeks pregant, I wasn't in a tolerent mood! )

BTW I love your quote on your signature. I am a pooh fan myself. I see you live in East Lansing. My hubby taught Chemistry at MSU for 2 years! :D

Thanks for a encouragment Maiastre Gracey.

Doesn't the Yacht Club have a convention center?

I think the resorts where Conventions are held can be more apt to have people who are partying hard than other resorts where families are staying.

Although I've stayed at Coronado Springs twice and never had a problem, but that may have been because there are no indoor corridors there, or I may have just blown my own theory. I've also stayed at Carribean Beach Resort and the Poly without problems.

Hopefully it was a one time occurance for you.

I'd guess that your YC experience is about par for the course at any vacation destination.

OKW is about as low density as DVC gets, and even there one guest can ruin it for many. Every time we are near a pool, we have at least one 1 am or later "loud" swimmer and friends decide that the pool hours are for other guests to follow. I'm sure the last stop before the visit was to PI or similar. Most quiet down in due course, but of course the "early to bed, early to rise" plans are now missing some sleep time. Given that OKW doesn't have the elevator and hallway layout of BWV, WWL, or BCV it doesn't get the "getting off the elevator"/"running in the hall" noises of those resorts.

I've stayed at the YC many times when attending conventions at Disney, and as a rule it's always quieter when you are farther from the elevators and to the front of the building. Maybe Disney needs to put signs on elevator doors requesting that guests quietly respect other guests when exiting the elevators and when in the halls. They certainly have signs for everything else :)

Go MSU!!!!!!!

We live in East Lansing too :)

We also hate it when people are loud and abnoxiuos when we're trying to sleep.

They usually are that way no matter where they are.

Sorry you had such a hard time getting someone to come up and ask them to be quiet.

In my opinion, as soon as the front desk, CM or the appropriate person is called, it should be handled immediately.

I've actually had more problems from rude responses on this board more than rudeness at DVC resorts. But of course, it can happen. Wait, we've had rude people at Vero Beach, move our chairs out from under an umbrella and place thier own chairs there, and we've had stuff stollen there. Maybe I'm wrong......

There have been interesting articles on CNN about the increasing rudeness of society overall ....

I certainly agree that it can be obnoxious and very frustrating, but its WDW and it will be a little louder than normal no matter what you do or where you stay. I truly don't think ownership would have anything to do with it.

I remember one trip at the GF - we were mid way down the hall and people were just loud in general - didn't matter what time of day it was. There was a conference of some sort there and the people (not sure if they were from the conference or not) talked at full force the entire way from the room to the elevator - I remember that trip in particular because their elevator etiquette was less than desirable as well - we waited for the door to open and they would walk up and walk right in front of us. Same with the busses.

If people are rude they will be rude no matter what - regardless of whether or not they "own" a piece of the magic. Owning it could make some people act worse!

Loud drunken "neighbors" should be given NO wiggle room. You find them everywhere. When I come across them, it is a call to the front desk right away. You have just as much right to sleep as they have to make noise. I would bet big money they are not owners.

I am so sorry that your trip was ruin by rude people. I have been around far more rude people in the parks than the resorts. But I do know the problem of drunks - that can be so upsetting.

I which that I could tell you that DVC was better - but some people don't seem to realize that they are distributing to others - you know the type - party guy who thinks everyone loves them - I am sure there are other types too - but that is the one I run across most often.

I generally get at OKW away from the HH - this has a bar - there is also one at Turtle Pond (but in the off seasons it closes early). At BWV get the standard view away from the elevators. (long walk but quieter).

At VWL I have not had a problem - that doesn't mean I won't - but so far so good - the same for the BCV.

I wish I could be of more help.

Rudeness is in the eye of the beholder.

We got back from Pleasure Island one night, decided to go for a swim and a few minutes later these rude people came out in bathrobes yelling...at first I thought they wanted some of our beer, but they wanted us to end our party.

Imagine the nerve, I can't believe the rudeness of some people.

People returning from Illuminations at, what to outsiders, are perfectly reasonable times, except my toddlers are asleep.

Toddlers running through the halls not using "inside voices" at 7:00 am back before I was as understanding of that situation as I am now.

People being loud in the pool while I'm trying to get an anxious three year old to nap.

It seems reasonable to expect people to be quieter between 9:00pm and 9:00am. But it would be nice if everyone was quieter in hallways all the time.

Just had to send that. I'm a PSU grad, and we attend all of the home football games. I see the "bookies" have Penn State favored by three touchdowns this Saturday. There's no way I'd take that bet. By the way, would you consider renting out a room to a friendly PSU couple if we ever come to your town for an away game?;) LOL!

People can be rude whether they're DVC members or not, but I've only encountered rudeness on a recent trip to BWV. The people across the hall would dump their dirty towels, lots of them, outside their door several times a day. They weren't picked by HK and they piled up and piled up over days. I have never seen that happen in a hotel. Must be something about that home away from home idea.

Rich, I'm assuming you were within the posted pool hours.

I agree, having a convention center around, a bar and indoor coridors I think makes things worse. We also were right near the elevator.

We have stayed at DL, CS, PO, CB and Poly and never had a problems like that before. I am just a little concenred with staying at BCV in March with our 23 month old then.

I know what you mean anniet, don't they know my kid is sleeping? No one wants to deal with a cranky kid!!!!!!!

I have high hopes for DVC that it will be better.

IMo any loud nosies (that can't be avoided) after 11:00 at night in a place where people could be sleeping is rude.

Thanks for all the "not rude posts!"

Where did those towels come from?? Maybe the pool.

Know what you mean. was at BCV recently. The room across the hall had there garbage bag outside the door. I finally called the desk about it. And the trash room was down the hall on the way out. I wonder if this is what they did when living at home with their parents? Just put the trash outside their bedroom door and mom/dad took it out.

I'll be the first to admit that I'll call the front desk in a hotel when necessary or the police (back when we were in an apartment w/ a ton of co-eds). But I do generally cut a lot of slack on vacation - as one of our yearly trips is solely dedicated to the purpose of drinking around WS!

I have been known to put sticky's or notes on peoples doors though - trash in hallway, barking dogs(not at WDW) - I just put a note on the door as well as calling the front desk.

I do agree about the convention aspect - I'd never thought of it that way - but I know how people act when I'm at a conventions or away on business - it always amazes me - its like people have never been away from home or had any fun before! The rude people we experienced at GF were conventioners as well. Not that we haven't also experienced screaming kids in the halls at 7am - which I would consider just as rude as a drunk person at night - but like I said - its WDW and its vacation - everyone deserves a little slack. I stand by my original statement though - I truly don't believe ownership has ANYTHING to do with it.

The only time we have ever had an issue (members since 1994) was once at OKW (one of the quietest places on earth) and a group of wild heathens playing football upstairs in every room. After complaining to Guest Services someone showed up and asked them to settle down and then came by to check on us. We were told they were checking out and were "renters" not owners.

People should understand that there are plenty of places to expend energy and have fun. Sometimes they forget but over an extended period it can get very old.

We pay a lot for DVC and I expect to not be imposed upon and I do my best not bother others.

On another rudeness note. We just spent a wonderful week at BCV but encountered a LARGE foreign tour group visiting the Y & BC. They looked like they were having a great time and had a number of kids and elderly folks. On the way to AK we waited on the benches at the bus stop with my parents and family. A large group showed up and the bus was crowded so we decided to wait. I got up and went with my brother to stand near the curb and let my folks remain on the bench. Another crowd started gathering and the rest of the family came over to wait the last few minutes. When the bus arrived we were right at the curb and door opening. The next thing I know these people are rushing in from different directions to "jump" in. I guarantee you that was not allowed to happen. I put my hands out and told them to STOP. Language did not seem to be a problem but one little girl ran right by everyone and almost knocked my mother over. After chastising the tot and receiving stares from the crowd an orderly boarding of the bus proceeded. On the way back from the Studios and Fantasmic several of their group had a difficult time understanding the concept of the queue line at the boat.

Still had a great ime though.
