This is a little long and thank everyone who takes the time to read this in its entirety.
I'm in the military (I travel a lot) and have been tdy all week to Las Vegas training to become a transformational life coach (which was a gift and truly a blessing in itself). I found out I had been picked to go last Thursday and left out Sunday. With all of this going on, my 5yo son started playing basketball and his first game was today at 9am.
I wasnt supposed to leave Vegas until this morning, but found a way to catch a red eye last night. My flight was due to land at 9am (the same time his game starts) . I was afraid I would miss his first game and that just tugged at my heart--the thought of it made me sad! (I even called his coach while in Vegas and expressed that to him). So I take my chances and catch the red eye, make my connections in Atlanta this morning. I figure I would rather catch the last 5 minutes of his game then to not catch any of at all.
Well I land at 9:02 darted off the airplane and head straight to my car. I never went to baggage claim because that would take up too much time. I get to the base (we live one base) at 9:35 (I just knew the game was about over). It's 27 degrees with a wind chill of 16 degrees, so I didnt have my coat (its in my luggage at the airport). I wrap up in a blanket I travel with and run into the gym.
The kids were in the second half of the game, I sit down on the bleachers and about two minutes later my son spots me in the crowd. Stops in the middle of playing his game (which also stops the game), with the biggest smile on his face, runs off of the court -- I stand up and he jumps right into my arms and gives me the BIGGEST hug!! It bought me to tears! He returns to the game and couldnt focus for the next couple of minutes. Jordan was looking at me smiling with excitement and kept wanting to run to me, but I would signal to him that it was okay for him to play.
The rush to get from west coast to east coast, the uncomfortable airplane seat, sleeping sitting up (at least trying to), the cold weather, and not eating was all worth that 30 seconds to see the smile and happiness on my sons face. At that very moment I felt more grounded and profoundly blessed. It was worth every iota of a second, minute, and hours I spent getting to him, just to experience his first basketball game. It's forever tattooed in my heart!
Thanks for allowing me to share,
Kim

Thanks for sharing!
How sweet. I've got tears now, I would have been bawling if I were there.
