Previously Purchased Resort Mugs

I purchased my mugs (with the flip up straw hole cover) at Dixie Landings back in 1996 or 1997 and was told that I could use them each time I came back to that resort. I have done that although each time I stay at another resort I purchase the one for that resort. I only use the Dixie Landing resort mug when I go back to that resort because of the way it was sold...useable at each subsequent stay. I do not do the same with the mugs as they sell them now...sold as "length of stay" mugs.
The cashier told me that they are not allowed to question anyone about the mug they are using. We purchased new Riverside mugs last stay but only because we moved from PC to POR and didn't bring our old mugs.

Just read another thread about what you would do differently the next time you go to Disney. Thought I'd answer it here

1. use old mugs
2. swim at other resort pools
3. use the dvc buses
4. hmm, maybe I could go into the laundry room and find some new clothes
5. steal toys out of strollers at the parks (saw that on another thread)

Hope I don't offend anyone, but couldn't resist. People seem to think if they do it, it's the right thing to do. For those who were told you could reuse the mugs, fine, but for the others.....

poohluv, wish i could get you some teflon. hold on.

LOL ... Deff have to add these to my list :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I love Refillable Mug posts - they are all so original. How can this possibly keep coming up on these boards that are filled with, what I have found to be, very intelligent and reasonable people? Here's my advice:
1. Buy a mug and use the crap out of it while you are at WDW
2. Take it home and put in in the cabinet - when you use it, remember your great trip
3. When you return to WDW, buy a new one and use the crap out of it again.
4. If you see someone using an old one - just snicker to yourself, knowingly
5. Or, if #4 isn't satifying enough - kick the person's cup out of their hand and strike a karate kid pose when they turn to look at you...

I don't think WDW COULD enforce the mug policy. Since the mugs don't change that often it would sometimes require asking folks to produce proof of purchase for the mugs. Plus, it appears some people were told the mugs were good for life.

Soft drinks cost WDW just a few pennies (if that much) per glass. I can't believe it would be worth the negative customer feeling for them.
We had mugs last visit, but I think they're too small. Won't bother this time.

Now if you could fill them with beer, well, THAT would be worth it!

Hey PrinceJohn... didn't you post this exact same thing on the last 3 mug threads? ( LOL! )

I agree that if it really is a problem, it is Disney's problem. Not a guest's issue. (And no, I don't haul around old refillable mugs to reuse.)
If Disney REALLY cared, they would have to pay CMs to stand around and be beverage monitors. That would cost them a lot more than guests who refill up with diluted drinks. Not to mention the mad guest letters they would receive from those vowing never to return due to the monitoring.
Who would want to be the CM having to tell a guest they could not refill an overpriced mug?
They don't enforce smoking. That I consider more serious than mug refills.

I don't smoke, but I was suprised to find on my last trip that CM's were telling people walking and smoking that they could only smoke in certain areas. I agree, and hate it when people walk around the parks smoking, and I have to follow in a trail of smoke, but I was surprised to see Disney actively enforcing this rule....

I just found this on allearsnet.com :
Most of the WDW Resorts have a "Refillable Mug" program in their food court area (aka Fast Food-Counter Service). You purchase a mug for around $11.99 and are entitled to "free" or less expensive refills for the duration of your stay. The refills are available from the beverage dispensers and usually include: coffee, sodas, ice tea, and hot chocolate. No other purchase is required to get your mug or your refills.
The mugs have the hotel logo on them and signs state that they are for use at that hotel for the duration of your visit.

For an avid coffee or soda drinker, especially with the 'free' refills,
you can't beat it.

So there ya go. I guess :earseek:
http://allearsnet.com/din/mugs.htm check it out for yourselves

Pheww! What a relief to know that there won't be anymore mug threads.

If only that were true...

I fear as long as we have guests who want to protect Disney from itself, we'll always have mug threads... and room occupancy threads... and pool hopping threads... etc, etc, etc...

I personally do not care how many people try to scam disney out of a few dollars here and there. I will gladly pay any extra costs that may come out of scamming disney. I will enjoy my vacation the same whether or not anybody is actually cheating disney or not. I do not care if they steal soda, or scam wrist bands to get into emh, or use disney transportation even if they are not entitled to it, or bring coolers into the park because the rules are not enforced. I am just so relaxed when I am at wdw, that I don't mind paying a little extra so these folks can scam a few measly dollars out of disney. After all, disney is not going to miss these dollars that they must not be entitled to since they aren't going to enforce the rules and instead are relying on guests honesty. In fact, since disney is not going to miss these few dollars, I am sure they would not even think about passing on the expense to us. Would they???

Lets see if we can get the most responses ever recorded for a mug thread. Maybe by breaking a record we can exorcise the demon.

You should pass these thoughts on to Disney. They might like to know why they're losing so much money.

I hope when I come back with my old Disney pass purchased in 1986 (with one day left on it) nobody will think worse of me for not paying for the no expiration option even though the pass is not marked "no expiration."

The funny thing is I learned about all of these things from these boards.

Don't believe everything you read on internet forums. They might not necessarily be true.

Yep...my computer just got sprayed with Diet Coke!

Hey, if people want to save money let them re-use their cups. As for me, I haven't had to buy honey mustard in 6 months (I stocked up last time I was there with the packets at POR).

I looked through my kitchen cabinets and found:
1 Polynesian mug with MIckey and minnie...back then, i was told we could refil the mug at any resort forever. Next year, they said any resort EXCEPT Beach Club or Grand Floridian (can't remember which). Then a few years later, I saw the signs that said: this resort only, length of stay.

So the rules changed. I suspect people with really old mugs who were told: forever, or any resort, bought under grandfathered rules.
So: I have 1 Polyl (2 lids) , 1 Port Orleans, 1 All Starts (but I think d got that in l997 and the rules may have changed by then, and then 1 Valentines Day one that says 1997?????

So I guess if I just packed the oldest one (Poly) I could refill it anywhere anytime at any resort without feeling the least bit guilty cause that is what I was told back then. And I doubt Disney CMs would look twice...but I'd sure hate to run into a guest like that drunk guy. (I have beenknown to call arseholes by name and nature!
