Disney CMs, like employees everywhere, do what their bosses tell them to do. If Boss says watch for mug-refillers, they watch. If Boss says don't worry about it, they don't worry about it.

It's just not believable that we here on the DIS have been able to figure out that cost increases are specifically due to people refilling old mugs, but the Disney Company with all of its MBAs and other such business genius types doesn't seem bright enough to figure this out.

ITA. I'm pretty sure Disney is aware of the mug situation and obviously they are not terribly concerned.

The sad thing is, I used to be the kind of person who would let someone reusing a mug ruin my vacation.
It is kinda funny that on this same board many of us are nearly obsessed with trying to get the codes, and figuring out ways to possibly skirting rules if it means saving $50 on a trip, and yet we get aour panties in a bunch that someone reuses a mug.
I don't believe I would so it, but I can't get too upset over someone else doing it. The percentage of refills gotten illicitly has to be fairly minimal.
I think this is one of those mountain/molehill issues.

Sorry if I went a little overboard. Saying a CM can do whatever needs to be done to make a guest happy greatly overstates the policy. If that was absolute policy than I should be able to negotiate price and get a special unlimited FP.

I'd say a CM telling a guest they can bring back a mug to use it in any resort for life when there is a sign that limits use to your current stay in the resort would exceed that policy. Telling a guest who brought back an old mug from that resort that they would let the misunderstanding slide for their current trip might be more what you're talking about.

There was no need for you to get smart here.
1) Yes, Disney DOES tell the CM's to do what needs to be done to make the guests happy. There have been multiple CM's HERE on these boards saying so.
2)It doesnt involve admission smartmouth. :rolleyes2:
3)There is a thread entitled something like "Your BEST WDW theme park secret!" in that thread someone specifically stated that YES, they were allowed admission to the FP line without the fastpasses because rude people cut in front of them.
4)It didnt include meals either! You're kind of a snot arent ya? :rolleyes2: It includes small things... Things like a new pair of Mickey ears that flew off akids head during a ride.

Geez.

Which is precisely why need people to appoint themselves the morals police.

And since we've been told the "reusable" policy when we weren't even asking, or considering purchasing mugs, I don't think the CM's phrasing can even be totally attributed to wanting to "make the sale". As I said before, a CM told us this when she was merely asking us when we would be coming back again. I'd already bought the mugs a week earlier.

The actual signs in the food courts have not been there for 10 years, or since some of the resorts opened. They have only started appearing in the last couple of years, along with the written message on the actual mugs.

The wording on the mug itself is recent, the signs by the food courts go back to around 1996-1997.

It is written on the mug, good for the duration of your stay at this resort, there are signs posted. No CM ever told me the mug was good for life. If I choose to repect these posted rules without question and that makes me the morals police, than by all means, make me the Chief.

I won't resort to naming those that choose the other way. ;)

And for the record, none of this bothers my vacation. It does bother my daily life as I deal with people everyday that won't abide by guidelines unless you force them to.

Well, chief, apparently some people have been told they can bring them back. Are you planning on bringing everyone in for questioning as to who was told what?

And they come out swinging....

Great post Sammie. People will still call you names and accuse you of forcing your morals and being high and mighty and letting things ruin your vacations when nothing could be further from the truth. Keep taking the high road Sammie.

Actually I could care less what people do with these mugs. At this point I could make some suggestions. They make great coffee mugs when you get home is one idea. We collect ours for souvenirs. I never take mine back. It's too much trouble.

My point always is I don't have a problem with people reusing their mugs. I don't know what they were told and I don't care. I don't even care if you use your 7-11 mug, again that is Disney business to enforce.

But I do care that some think that rules are not written for them. If you buy a new mug then it is written on the mug the policy. I expect people to respect that. It bothers me abuses cause others to suffer for the abuse. Check out the concierge thread if you want an example.

I also have a problem with name calling. I don't agree with your opinion, but I won't resort to labeling because of it.

Is there a high road when one is ranting about strangers stealing $.02 worth of soda refills?

When my kids are through with college and on their own and my mortgage is paid and my pension is fully funded and all my earthly concerns are gone, am I, too, going to start worrying about whether the guy at the soda fountain next to me is using the mug that Mickey said he should? Have the folks who concern themselves with minutae of other people's lives got their's so perfectly arranged that they've got a surplus of time to get their wayward neighbors corrected? Is a person who lets, no, goes out of his way, to allow the question of the proper plastic mug detract from a vacation costing thousands actually of the same species as me? Why waste time watching reality TV with this entertainment all around us?
