Pretty shocking comments from a CM at Epcot

So does disagreement imply judgement?

My thoughts:

If a complaint is filed I think the DH who heard the comments should be the instigator of the feedback. Regardless of the incorrectness of the comments if the DW did not hear them she should not write the e-mail as the information is second hand at that point.

The South in my experience is no more intolerent than anywhere else. Yes we have the reputation, we have the history but in reality some places in the South have a much better track record in dealing with the issues than do other parts of the country. Houston is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the nation. A Sociology Professor at Rice has done studies of Houston for over 20 years tracking intergration and number of ethnicities and believe it or not Houston is at the top of the list in the US. Further the community I live in, Pearland is at the top of his list for years running because not only our diversity but also because our neighborhoods are intigrated. Many of them have numerous nationalities and ethnicities living on the same streets while most major cities have white, black, hispanic, and asian areas that are segregated within the city.

I personally wish everyone would just get over the whole race issue and deal with people as people. I dislike certain whites, blacks, hispanics, and asians not because of their ethnicity but because fundamentally they are jerks. I judge all people the same, regardless of race until you give me a reason to not respect you because of your actions, words or deeds.

I also have a huge problem with entitlement. If you work in the same place I do and get paid the same or more than I do, that's fine, but do not expect more because you fall into a certain category. Work hard and you will succeed. You don't need extra help if you are intelligent, and motivated. Get ahead by doing your job, not because you are a member of a minority.

Actually, I assumed you meant "dislike" when you said "disagree." Because you can't "disagree" with a religion or a lifestyle.

Because disagreement requires two parties - two sides to have a dispute, conflict or argument with each other.

You can't "disagree" with something that doesn't have thoughts or opinions.

Anyway, semantics out of the way - you are saying you "disagree" (or have a conflict with) other people's lifestyles and religions - but you aren't judging them or disliking them. Well......that's a neat trick.

I'm sorry I broke your heart by calling you on your hypocrisy.

Way too comlicated. What difference does it make, disagree or dislike. The point is it is not your cup of tea, that is all. And just because you dislike/disagree with something or someone, does not mean you do not respect them in general. And yes, we all judge on race, sex, origin, area, nationality, accent, hair color, marital status, sexual orientation, political orientation, lenght of skirt, age, names, anything. It is human nature, do not tell me there is absolutely no category you dislike or disagree with, how about Brazilian tour groups. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you do not stone anyone or offend anyone.

I wouldn't get too worked up over the "Southerner" stereotype that is being trotted out in this thread. "The South" will always exist as the national scapegoat. It is convenient for some people to point at the south and declare, "They are the racists, Not us!!" even though the southeastern US is probably the most ethnically diverse major region in the nation. If it makes some people feel better about themselves to create a boogeyman then so be it, I won't lose any sleep over it.

I just laugh at the irony of labeling millions of people as apt to stereotype others. :lmao:

You are absolutely correct: racism occurs everywhere. There are plenty of racist people right here in Buffalo, New York.

ITA. Sorry, no tolerance for intolerance. If a representative of Disney or any other company is so stupid, they deserve censure or worse. I would absolutely report it. It is inappropriate and makes the company look terrible.
This. I don't usually think every little mistake should be reported, but this is a whopper of a mistake. Someone who works with the public has no right to express those opinions in a public manner.

I've met and talked to many of the 'streetsweepers' at WDW - we like to take things slow sometimes, and I'm a magnet, it seems, for people who don't have someone to talk to during the day.

Many of the menial-labor employees are WDW are adults with 'special needs' (I hate that term, but it's what is used presently) and WDW is an amazing place for them. Many are very weak on social skills, with Asperger's syndrome, or other spectrum issues, etc. I've worked for many years with students having the same issues, so I recognize some of the CMs' issues too. One CM in the Germany pavilion (clearing tables) talked to us about the weather for about 20 minutes. I couldn't leave, he was so happy to have someone to talk to!

I think it would be OK to notify WDW about this issue - not to get the guy fired, but to get him some help with the social aspect of his job. I have no idea if he was mentally or intellectually challenged, but I bet he'd like to know that he wasn't doing his job properly, and that he needed to rethink his approach.

Forget semantics, how about making an argument that actually makes some sense, huh? :confused3

Give me a break. You could start a thread on "Does Disney sell potholders?" and it would turn into a bickering session.

NO it Would NOT:rotfl:

Sorry I could not help myself.

Unfortunatly racists come in all size, shapes and colors and locations.

Question: can we reuse our potholders from previous WDW visits or do we have to purchase new ones every time? :confused3

This is a pretty weak response. So I guess I need to tell my gay cousin that because I disagree with his lifestyle it means that I dislike him and I have racist feelings towards him? Give me a break. :rotfl: Are you sadistic with your girlfriend too or just strangers that you can hide from behind the internet?

Forget semantics, how about making an argument that actually makes some sense, huh? :confused3

Yep - this. :thumbsup2

As long as they're not line jumpers you should be fine...:lmao:

Personally...I have a severe intolerance for people that jump lines while wearing potholders. It is impossible to grab them by the hand and pull them out of line. That is soooo rude.:headache::headache::headache:

:lmao: It must be because you are from Vermont:rotfl:

Man, that is such a stereotypical thing to say. I'm thinking people from the mid-west are far more anti-potholder wearing then we are. :confused3 How rude! :snooty:

That is one of the reasons that I am moving to North Carolina...where a person is free to proclaim to be anti-potholder wearing inclined without fear of someone calling them on it.:cloud9:

I shall speak to my potholder severely - as soon as I can get it out of the stroller it's certainly too old for - Pete's sake, my potholder's 18!!! As in years old!!:lmao::lmao:
