Having re-read this thread, I don't think anyone said there weren't racists everywhere or that it was more prevalent in one place versus another.
The only thing I can discern is that someone said racists in a certain part of the country were more vocal about it.
I am not going to say this is true or false for places I haven't lived, but I do find that the more acceptable something is in a certain place, the more vocal the supporters there are. Simply because it is acceptable to be so. And just because people may be vocal, does not mean everyone thinks alike. Those that hold the "unpopular" opinion are more likely to be more careful about what they speak of and to whom.
