Hi all,
I was interested in this pressed penny thing. I have a 5 year old boy who might be interested in this fun hobby. Can someone please gve me the 101 on this. How much does it cost? What do the pennies look like (photos if possible please), etc.
I would love to know the details since we hope to visit WDW twice a year and he might enjoy this hobby...
Thanks! :flower:

DW2B collects these. They are .51 cents each (2 quarters and the penny to press). The fun part is to find them all (I cannot remember exactly how many there are). Its like a scavenger hunt. They are all over. By rides, in shops, at resorts, etc. Look in tucked away corners of shops too you will find some there. You can obtain a list from guest services, at least that is what we did so we could check off the ones we had. Its best to use clean shiney(sp?) pennies. Here are some pictures I took for you, I hope they turned out ok.

The last picture is a book they sell to keep your collection. If I remember correctly the cost for this was $6.50 and it holds 36 pennies. Hope this helps you out. I think he will have fun with it

The also have pressed quarters for $1.25.
My husband does the pennies, we pack an m&m tube with change for just that purpose. Alternating 2 quartes and 1 penny till the tube is full. It doesn't always keep them stacked in proper order after being shaken around abit but it still has the correct coins in it and it is easier than digging in pockets trying to find the needed coins.

I've a list of all the pressed pennys, if you want i can send it by e-mail, just leave your e-mail address here.

We try to use older pre-1982 pennies. After a good soak in ketchup, they usually are quite clean and shiny. We take a couple of rolls of quarters and a beach safe tube on a lanyard full of pennies. When we return home, we coat them in clear fingernail polish to help prevent tarnishing. You can even mount and frame them if you wish. Maggie

My son and daughter had a blast doing the pressed pennies at DW. It was like a big game and challenge to find them. They are not really out in the open except maybe at the resorts. I know that there was a link that told you where you would find them all at the parks, DTD and resorts, I will look for it and post it if I can find it. I bought the books and my son still has his displayed in his room. The M&M tube works great so that you dont have a bunch of loose change.

Hi, both of our kids love the smashed pennies you can find them on every vacation we go now, we have three books full and from the sounds of list we could fill at least two more books if not three more! we are ready with rolls of quarters and pennies :cheer2:

12 days and counting!! :thewave: :dancer:

How would suggest mounting them for framing? I had never thought of this, but it could be a cool to hang in our kids' bathroom or playroom. Do they make special mats to place the pressed pennies in, by any chance?

Craft foam is your friend. We found that by using the two different thickness layers of foam that you can take the thinner layer, that we buy with the adhesive backing and cut out the areas that we would like to place the pennies into. After we have the areas cut out, we take the backing off and adhere it to the thicker board. Then, we break out the hot glue gun and attach the pennies to the thicker foam board inside the cut out areas. From there, you can frame the soft foamy boards with little effort. Good luck! Maggie

This sounds really cool. If you can send me a list - that would be great! I will ask my son if he is interested in this and try it out.
Thanks for the photos and info!
